i just got this nice gaming computer and tried to play UT3 and LOTRO and both of them won't play, they both load up a launch screen and freeze there! UT3 installed but won't start, and lotro stays at the launch screen.

I shut my computer off last night as I normally do before I went to bed. It shut down without any issues. Everything was the same as it normally is. When I went to turn on my computer today, it goes through the Dell startup screen, then it tells me there might be a problem with some hardware or something to that effect and gives me the option to either “Launch Startup Repair” or “Start Window Normally”, then windows attempts to start (has the green scrolling bar at the bottom). Either of these options take me to the same place next which is a screen that states “System Recovery Options”, and asks me to select my keyboard language. So I did and hit “next” to continue to a screen that asks me to sign into my account on the computer, and then it took me to another page that displayed a box of system recovery tools.
Being a little confused about what was happening, I selected the option for “Startup Repair”. When it finished I chose to restart the computer as it noted that if the problem was fixed it would start normally. It didn’t start normally and I went through the same process again when it rebooted. I have tried this option many times today, and it isn’t working. I also have tried a few times the option for “Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool”. It goes trough the tests, says nothing about finding a problem, then the computer restarts to the same situation............
let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 120GB Sata drive and I am stuck in a loop. The loop is "launch repair, or start windows normally" I have tried both. I have also did F8 and did safe mode, etc. However I want to just clean it off & start over. I put the cd in, it boots then it does "Copy setup files" The bar finishes, it goes to another screen, and it just sits there, with the mouse....just sits there for hours. I am willing to buy another HD just didn't want to if it's not that.

I deleted it thinking it would confuse the 92 year old client whose machine this is, as she was going to use AOL webmail. However, most webmail applications are so frought with garbage on the screen, that the appearance of Windows Mail (uncluttered) seems a good alternative for one with macular degeneration (she can't see at all well).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 2GB DDR2-SDram to 4 gb (2) DDR2-SD RAM. Now everytime I start my computer I get the blue screen for a split second, the the computer reboots itself. It does this about 3 times untill it finally boots up. when it boot up everything is totally normal.

If anyone has had this problem please tell me how to fix it.

My KB was plugged into the PS2 port. After I took out the PS2 adapter and plugged the cable into a USB port the problem was fixed.

When I put in a CD and install a program, my Mem usage sometimes goes to 100%, and stays at 100% even when it is finished installing. Everything runs insanely slow, and I usually end up holding the power button to restart (if I click on the start menu to restart, it takes 15-20s for the menu to come up). I say it happens sometimes, because it doesn't always happen. It is hit or miss. It sometimes also happens when doing other tasks (see below). However, when I open up task manager (and display all processes), I do not see any processes that are using an insane amount of memory. Everything looks normal. Also, today I was backing up ~3.5gb of files from my hard drive to my external drive. My memory usage went to 100% and stayed there, just like I mentioned before (had to power off).
Just to get all of the starter questions out of the way:
-This is a fresh install of Vista x64 with SP1 (SP1 is up-to-date)
-I do not have any viruses
-I do not have any spyware
-I have ran memtest for 16 hours just to make sure it wasn't my RAM
-I have no messed with the pagefile
-UAC is enabled
Also, when I run a program like prime95, my memory usage goes to 100%, but when I hit "stop", the mem usage goes back to 30-40% like it should. So things are working okay. I have had this system up since June. It is not a HUGE issue, because most of the time I am not installing anything, but when I do install something, it sometimes requires me to reboot.
my computer showing white screen. I maybe turn it on and a few minutes later it's completely white. Sometimes it showes first stripes, black and white. I've googled it but not found much so I went here to ask. For about 2 months ago I had problem with BSOD but re-installed Vista and it was OK. My computer is Packard Bell SB87 (something like that, not sure) and with Vista Home Premium.
View 7 Replies View RelatedVista installed fine and everything works fine until, a piece of software asked to restart. Now I have to hope that is boots. Because when it the boot process reaches the microsoft corporation and finishes, the system gives a blank screen and hangs. If I wait long enough, 15+ minutes, it finally boots with the vista logo on the second screen and logon password on the first screen. This is a new pc, just built, I should not have this problem. The pc has an integrated nvidia 9400 with 9800gt. Can it be a grahics card problem? I used the cd to install the drivers that came with the 9800gt.

Most times when I turn it off and on again it will recognize it then work fine, but as of lately it can take 10+ times. When it does this and you turn it off, it does flash the Analog and Digital box in the top left corner, meaning its recognizing it but it still wont work when computer is turned on again. Im thinking the problem is something to do with the Digital/Analog setting on my monitor, or something in the settings?

We have a Vista machine running Vista Ultimate. It is a Toshiba Tecra.
Within a few minutes of booting up, even in safe mode, the mouse pointer
drifts to one side, usually the right, and stays there. If you leave the
machine alone for a while, the issue goes away, but the moment a user starts
doing anything, the mouse becomes unusable in this way. I have tried exiting
all applications, and meticulously exiting every service whose function I
know is not a core Windows function, without avail. Windows Defender has not
found an issue.
When using Windows Mail, after I try to send an email, it remains in my outbox until I close down the Windows Mail. When I reopen Windows Mail, the message has moved to the sent folder, but is there a way I can send a mail without having to shut-down the program everytime? My status is showing as 'Working Online' and I have tried clicking the 'Send and Receive' but this doesnt resolve the problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a bit of a problem with moving files around...instead of trying to explain it Ill just list the things that is wrong:
ctrl+C, ctrl-V, ctrl+X does not work
trying to cut/copy/paste from right clicking does not work
drag/drop does not work
I CAN open the file and Save As.. to put the file where I want it. This is exclusively with files, I can do whatever I want with text without a problem. everything is available to use in the right-click menu, and when I cut a file it shades the file, but if I try to paste it somewhere else it does nothing, the file stays shaded where it originally was.
Every time i try to start Vista it gets to the black screen with the progression bar and Microsoft Corportion under it and it doesnt go pass that point. I tryed to fix the startup wit the vista disk and it said fixing boot errors but it ran for over 24 hours and didnt do anythings.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently got a virus on my dell laptop so i decided to do a system restore to an earlier date, this fixed the problem. Then as an option a message popped up asking me if i wanted to install windows service pack so i clicked yes, so as the laptop was shutting down it was installing the service pack but unfortunatly in the process the laptop was switched off by mistake. Ever since i have tried to do a recovery and tried starting windows normally but either way it ends up with a black screen with the message.

The executable stays loaded as a process. That process has to be manually dumped before the program can be restarted. Is there a fix for this problem?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a GW M6307 2gigs ram with VHP 32 bit. Over the last several days on start-up the computer will show the GW screen for about 150 sec. then boot normally. I did do a Java update just before this started and have since uninstalled and reinstalled Java with no problem. I ran malware bytes(no issues) SFC ( 2 files repaired from log) and CHK disc. After shutting down for 10min. and a start-up the GW logo was normal(6 sec) with swift boot. This lasted 2 days. I ran SFC again and that appeared to fix the issue again for 2 days.
There appears to be nothing wrong anywere,in fact the box works great. All my drivers and bios are up to date.
It's more of a PIA then a problem....What would be the possible causes for the box to hang on the GW logo for so long??
When I start my computer, it would load fine until the loading green bar. After that screen, my computer would have a black screen for 15 or so minutes until the screen for the password shows up.
I've disabled nearly everything in startup in msconfig, did a restore to manufacture settings the day before to try and solve this, but it didn't help.
I have:
Dell XPS420
3.00 GB RAM
32-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 2.
System has 2 hard drives in which boot independantly, ones in 32 bit windows vista, the other 64 bit windows vista home premium- only reason for 2 is that when machine was upgraded last year (which essentially meant almost everything was replaced!) there was data on original hard drive so pc builders put original hard drive in on dual boot so I could access it all with the intention of removing op system and turning it to a storage drive when finished (never got round to it though). It automatically boots to the 64 bit drive unless overridden at start up. The problem is with the 64 bit hard drive boot.
Yesterday all was working fine, only thing done on machine yesterday was check facebook, download emails and run a full virus scan (Kaspersky). Shut down after scan had completed this morning (ran overnight, had halted at about 80% because machine put itself to sleep too soon so completed this morning) and restarted. Appears to start okay, gets to the screen with the 3 user images on it and stops. So I have the screen with the 3 usernames showing, 2 of these users have passwords (mine and hubby's) the 3rd has no password (kids account - rarely used account) but clicking on anything does nothing - it should bring up the log in screen but nothing happens. The images do become highlighted but the log on does not appear. Same goes for the accesibility button on the bottom left of the screen and the shut down options on the bottom right - just no response.
The hard drive activity light is on and flickering though, have left the machine for up to half an hour and the light is still flickering but everything is still unresponsive. Trying to go into safe mode does exactly the same - stops at the user names screen and is unresponsive. Have tried last known good and that didn't change anything.
Dell Inspiron 1525, running Vista Home Premium. When turned on shows DELL start up screen with blue load bar. Load bar gets about 3/4 way and freezes for about 5 mins then goes to black screen, with no mouse cursor. View 7 Replies View RelatedHad some issues with my mouse (USB device not recognized), and had an occasional time where computer would not respond after going into sleep mode and I'd have to hit the power button. Seemed to become more frequent, and then this. Only recent event was installing SP1 for Vista, but problem was already appearing prior to that.
I'm not able to boot the computer, getting the "carpet texture" on my screen and it freezes up, not able to finish booting. Ran dell diagnostics, indicated no hardware issue and no new hardware installed. I do have a blue tooth phone now, but have not syncd them up. Ran memory diagnostic tool, no memory issues..............
I have vista buisness, and it won't load. I have to restart at least twice and restart it via safe mode. I am a real noob when it comes to this so please forgive this novice question. Does anyone have an idea whats wrong with it or a route i can take to attempt to find out whats wrong? It gives me a black screen and won't load for a while. I noticed after i posted someone on this forum had the same problem. Are there any updates to that problem?

View 7 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has been having some problems running, so i was in the process of repairing my compter when i ran into a problem. my laptop was set to hibernate (which i find out now is a stupid idea due to the problems) but anyways, now when i try to start it up my bios screen isnt the same (where i can select it to boot from a cd/dvd) those options arent there, and ive tried hitting the keys but nothing happens...
when it gets past the opening screen, it stays stuck on a black screen with a small cursor int he top left corner... and i have no idea how to get out of this or anything... it will stay on this screen untill i try and restart my comp by hitting the power button... and when i hit the power button it turns off right away, when my computer is on i have to hold it in... so is there anyway to hard start bios? or vista? or am i going to have to connect the hard drive to a diff computer and try and fix it that way?
I click Start, then Windows Update - nothing, it just locks up as a blank screen. It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update?What would you recommend?
