View 7 RepliesI haven't had a problem with people being able to open attachments but as of
today I am finding that people are having trouble opening my photo
attachments. I am not getting an error message. They seem to be sending
fine.
I am sending emails to Iraq and my friend has been unable to open them. He has not had this problem before. He is using gmail. I have been able to open his but only 1/2 the message is coming through and I can't open his photos. We have been trying to work it out to no avail. Is it possible that Windows Mail may have anything to do with this?

Suddenly and without any apparent reason I can not open pictures attached to newsgroup messages with Windows Photo Gallery. The photo is visible in the body of the message, is saved where I want but when I try to view it the Windows Photo Gallery tells me this: "Could not find file xxx.jpg verify that the file name is correct and try again"
View 7 Replies View Relatedi can't get my vista machine to open a folder in the same window. Since about 3 days ago, my folders open up in their own windows and to my knowledge, nothing has changed. The option is checked in the folders option area, but no luck. Even tried numerous registry entries with no luck as well. From what i've heard, this was an old vista bug from pre-sp1 days, but i can't seem to find a fix if any.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the windows XP you used to be able to go to windows explorer and file type and advanced to make a file type always open in a new window. I'm currently using Vista and Office 2007 and everytime I click on an Excel file in Microsoft Internet Explorer it opens in Explorer. How can I change this so it opens in Excel. This was fairly easy to do in XP, I just can't seem to figure out how to do it in Vista.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista and when I connect my Hp2795b PDA to the cradle Window Mobile Device Center does not open. I installed the WMDC 6.1 and it still does not open. When I go to the start menu it is not listed there. When I go to the Add/remove programs in the control panel it is not listed there. If I go to WindowsMobile folder in the Windows folder there is a wmdSync.exe that when opened does not open an interface. It does show up in the task manager but only when I manually execute it from the folder that it is in. When I go to the Control Panel there is an Icon for WMDC that when opened pops up a box that asks me to allow USB connections and even says "Device Connected". When I click ok nothing further happens. I can view the device and what is on it in Windows Explorer. But since the
WMDC will not open, I am unable to sync anything.

Our main wireless internet connection has stopped working on one of the Dell laptops. It works fine on the other and the Mac. When attempting to connect, a "login dialog" appears where it asks for the user, pass and domain. I remember this happening to both Dells (Vista) when we first got the wireless router and the workaround was to manually create the connection.
I'm not sure what has happened to cause this laptop to stop connecting automatically, but I thought a good fix would be to manually create the connection again. Problem is, when I go to the Network window and click on "Network and Sharing Center" a new window briefly appears then disappears. Why is it doing this & how can I fix it??

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a folder that contains a large number of files they are off the "viewable" window area. I end up having to use the handles to resize the window so I can see all my files. When I close the window and reopen it, it has reverted back to the small size and I have to resize it again. This doesn't happen on my XP machine a home. Is there a way to make the resized window remain the size I need it? Or is this a quirk of Vista?

Can someone please tell me how to make my desktop icons transparent?, I mean see through, like glass?.. I went to the visaul effects, and ticked the drop down shadows for desktop icons, but that made no difference?
Maybe, there is some free vista transparent icon packs that can be downloaded?? ICO Packs?.. Can someone please help me with this?
I didn't know anything about GIF images until today when I discovered I had to change a JPEG's image background to transparent. I downloaded an image editing program (Coral Paint Shop Pro) and after about two hours of trial and error I only got to changing the background to a solid colour (light red), after which I deleted the program because ALL my image files were redirected there when I clicked on them (instead of Windows Photo Viewer and such).
Now I want to know if and how I can make the background transparent without image editing software. I followed one online suggestion which was to:
- Open MO Excel
- Under the "Insert" tab click "Picture" and upload image
- Under the "Format" tab click "Recolor" and choose "Set Transparent Color", then choose the color you want transparent and click on it...but that only gave me an image I wanted in an Excel spreadsheet which I couldn't save as a GIF in any program I tried.
Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook running Vista Home Premium. Automatic Updates is "on". I suspect this is not strictly a Vista problem, but the user base may know of a solution. I also suspect the problem is with a Dell-specific service or application but that may be supported by underlying Vista services. I find references to a similar service for HP notebooks. When I got my computer about 6 weeks ago, a transparent popup would appear briefly and then disappear when the caps lock key was toggled. It indicated the new state of the key and an icon was also placed in the Notification Area when the state was "locked". A similar action took place if I toggled the "radio" button (F2) and a battery information window appeared it the "battery" key (F3) was pressed.
That worked for a week or so, then stopped working. I did many searches on The Internet and in the Dell Community Forums for a solution. No joy. Then one day, it mysteriously started working again. It worked for 3 days which spanned several times when the computer went into standby and when it went into hibernation each evening. A series of security updates came down from Microsoft which required reboot. The popups went away and in many more hours of research, I have been unable to find a solution....

If there is I`ll put it back on. but I do alot of work on the computer and it got annoying have to give it permission constantly. I know vista is about security but it has gone alittle to far. Also I got tired of having to try and get a program working . Run as admin wouldn`t work or it was too hard to get permission set up as admin. I`m the only one that runs this computer and noone else touches. So if there was a way to change it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had my computer for a little over a year now and I run Windows Vista Ultimate edition. All of a sudden a couple days ago I noticed that everything now has an annoying shadow on it. Desktop icons, tool bar, web browser text, microsoft word text, every little bit of text and icons. I have tried going to control panel, under the visual
effects tab and unchecking transparent glass, shadows under menu, shadows under mouse pointer, and use drop shadows for desktop icons. I have also tried changing my desktop theme and wallpaper. So far nothing has worked.
