I have a new computer with Vista And Windows Mail. Windows mail is so slow to respond to a simple reply to this message it is totally unusable. Does anyone else have any speed issues wiht WM?? Or has anyone resolved the speed issues. I use email a lot and actually registered fo rthis forum while WM tried to open a reply window.
View 8 RepliesI have installed my Motherboard drivers and my GPU drivers to little effect. Is it worth downloading the updates. If I do that it will probably take all afternoon. Plus I'll have to log off this computer.

This operation used to work OK with XP & OE however using Vista & Windows Mail it only pops up a message stating that the program is not associated. Clicking on an email address in a web page using IE8 works fine, it opens up a Windows Mail reply page.
When I try to reply, reply all or forward an email either in preview or from an open email nothing happens. Message at the top (Not responding). It seems like the program freezes or there is a very long delay for the reply or forwarded email to appear. If and when it does appear, the email is blank with no text, it is still waiting for the info to load whether there is an attachment or not. When I try to x out, a new window opens giving me the option to restart the program, close or wait for windows mail to respond.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just built a resonably fast machine: I installed Vista64, updated drivers for chipset, graphics and soundcard. Installed all Vista64 updates and installed Office 2007. No other apps, drivers, etc installed yet. All hardware is recognized by system and appears functioning correctly. Performance is terrible to the point the machine is unusable. Some example/benchmarks:
- Time to boot (POST to Vista login): 13 minutes
- Time to respond to simple CTRL-ALT-DEL: 35 seconds
- System sounds (e.g. alert beeps) play delayed, garbled and broken up.
- Time to install Vista update: 5 hrs, 45 minutes
- Time to start internet explorer, 3 minutes
There are alot of posts of people with slow Vista, but none that I've seen this bad and on this type of near top of line hardware. My CPU usage is constantly running 50-100%, but no one process seems to be hogging CPU. Its the normal kinds of processes that are each consuming a chunk of it (explorer, svchost, etc.). Wierd thing is that the Vista performance assessment gives my machine a 5.2 every time I run it (5.9 graphics, 5.9 disk, 5.5 memory, and 5.2 processor).
Vista 32 When I attempt to bring up 'Sysem Restore' via the Programmes-Accessories route, it takes ages for the window to appear! Is this normal?

View 6 Replies View Relatedi can't get my vista machine to open a folder in the same window. Since about 3 days ago, my folders open up in their own windows and to my knowledge, nothing has changed. The option is checked in the folders option area, but no luck. Even tried numerous registry entries with no luck as well. From what i've heard, this was an old vista bug from pre-sp1 days, but i can't seem to find a fix if any.

I'm currently using Vista and Office 2007 and everytime I click on an Excel file in Microsoft Internet Explorer it opens in Explorer. How can I change this so it opens in Excel. This was fairly easy to do in XP, I just can't seem to figure out how to do it in Vista.

On the new Vista Laptop we have with Vista business connected to a 2003 Server R2 the shared folder with the website in it 5000+ picture files takes about a minutes to open every single time. If we access it on the Windows XP machines it works straight away so I assume this is a vista issue anyone come across it or have an answer

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista and when I connect my Hp2795b PDA to the cradle Window Mobile Device Center does not open. I installed the WMDC 6.1 and it still does not open. When I go to the start menu it is not listed there. When I go to the Add/remove programs in the control panel it is not listed there. If I go to WindowsMobile folder in the Windows folder there is a wmdSync.exe that when opened does not open an interface. It does show up in the task manager but only when I manually execute it from the folder that it is in. When I go to the Control Panel there is an Icon for WMDC that when opened pops up a box that asks me to allow USB connections and even says "Device Connected". When I click ok nothing further happens. I can view the device and what is on it in Windows Explorer. But since the
WMDC will not open, I am unable to sync anything.
I am still looking for an answer to my question about minimizing. My minimizing will not last, in particular the webmail. Once I open a new window, the minimized page just vanishes.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just began using Vista Home Premium (SP1 installed) 64bit and I am trying out the trial version of Microsoft Office that came on my new HP. I wanted to create a mail merge letter in Word 2007 and then email it out to a group of folks using Windows Mail version 6.0. Creating the email was easy. I then tried to select "email" from the drop down Word mail merge menu to finish it, but the email choice was grayed out. In Googling on Vista,email and Word, I get the feeling this might have something to do with a missing or otherwise unusable MAPI? I tried installing Microsoft Mail Live, but no difference in results. I have no other problems communicating across my home network or via broadband to the internet.

When I right click, Personalize. I don't have a 'Theme' option to click on. I tried looking every where on how to get it back or to change themes another way. This is my last option to fix this. Here is a screen shot on what I am trying to explain.
Our main wireless internet connection has stopped working on one of the Dell laptops. It works fine on the other and the Mac. When attempting to connect, a "login dialog" appears where it asks for the user, pass and domain. I remember this happening to both Dells (Vista) when we first got the wireless router and the workaround was to manually create the connection.
I'm not sure what has happened to cause this laptop to stop connecting automatically, but I thought a good fix would be to manually create the connection again. Problem is, when I go to the Network window and click on "Network and Sharing Center" a new window briefly appears then disappears. Why is it doing this & how can I fix it??

I end up having to use the handles to resize the window so I can see all my files. When I close the window and reopen it, it has reverted back to the small size and I have to resize it again. This doesn't happen on my XP machine a home. Is there a way to make the resized window remain the size I need it? Or is this a quirk of Vista?

my internet speed is playing up real bad. I can browse and do what I want at normal speeds but as soon as I start downloading anything my internet slows down to an unbearable pace, web pages take so long to open that I have to cancel my download
The Event Viewer of my friend's computer shows a lot of errors saying that his hard drive is corrupt and unusable. On every re-boot the Disk Checker starts up and does its thing only to report there are no problems.
Could there be some other hardware problem that would cause Vista to report these type of errors? My friend did take his machine into the shop to be checked out be a Certified Technician and they told him that everything was OK. At least they did not charge him for the service.
I am a bit concerned that he had a lot of programs operating in the background which caused a lot of memory swapping as he has only 1GB of memory. What is the minimum amount of recommended memory for Vista now? I think it used to be 1.5GB, has that changed?
Purchased a new machine yesterday. Started to load some of my software, one of which is Links 2003. I play this a lot. It will not run in Vista Home Prem. Video in a mess. Unusable. I have 1.05 patch installed but need something to support Vista.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having a strange problem with my Windows Vista Home Premium installation. The login screen loads and I can write the user and password boxes, but when I insert the password for my user and I hit the enter button or click the arrow button it does nothing. Clicking on shutdown options button does nothing. Pressing ctrl+alt+del does nothing. And after about 30 seconds it reboots and all the same happen endlessly. I tried all the recovery options ( boot in safe mode, last working configuration, disable restart at error, etc... ) and all have the same behavior.
I booted with the Windows Vista Recovery Tools from the DVD and I used chkdsk. It says that found errors and corrected them but when I run again the chkdsk the same errors are reported and corrected. Used sfc /scannow with the offline options and it says that found some corrupted files and is unable to correct them, but when I check the logs no relevant errors are found. Tested the memory and the hard drive using ubuntu live cd and the results were that both are ok. With ubuntu live cd I am able to boot and access all the windows files.
This is not the error "installing updates 3 of 3" or the black screen of death after welcome screen. This happened when I was using the pc and suddenly it freezed and I pressed the power button to do a hard shutdown. After that these symptoms started. Until there everything was fine. I didn't download any virus, as I am a computer programmer and I know what I am doing I just can't understand this error. What do you guys think it is? Is it a virus or some of the system files are corrupted or a hardware problem? I would not like the reinstall vista option because I have a lot of data and a lot of programs installed. What other options do I have? By the way the Vista I have is Service Pack 2.
When I open the first website it takes 42 seconds. The second takes 20 no matter what order I open them. If I close IE or Firefox and re-open the website it takes 32-40 seconds. The second takes 20. When I open the first program it takes 9 seconds. I do not have a lot of programs running, run my utilities regularly, use CCleaner daily. My hardrive has 50 of 150g used. Is there a way to cut down the load time of the initial website?
