How To Make A Batch File On Starting And Stopping Services From Command Prompt?
Aug 12, 2008how to make a batch file where you could start, disable, stop and manual for a service from the command prompt? for example instead of going to services.msc and right clicking on a service then clicking on properties then making the startup to be manual,automatic or disable. I could do with a batch file where i would just launch the batch file and it would make the startup to manual and then disable the service that i want to disable.

Aug 23, 2008Well i recently "upgraded" to vista 64, which atfirst i thought might of been a good thing! Which it is, sort of... its such a nightmare downloading all the correct drivers whic are actually compatible and getting programmes that actually work!
Came to download bitlord now that wont work, and i cant install a lot of my girlfriends sims expansions etc.
So does anyone know a good torrent downloader which will work with vista 64?

Jun 29, 2009Need the proper settings for power management for such kind of problem. Just for a simple reason of downloading a lot of electricity is wasted if the PC is kept running for long hours.

Jun 30, 2009I had a game I wanted ot make work but DEP kept stopping it so I turned off DEP by using the command prompt. bcdedit.exe/set {current] nx AlwaysOff and it worked. I then restarted Vista and all I get is a quick flash of a blue crseen and then two options, 1) Repair and 2) Start normally. I have restored to an earlier point, I have also tried safe mode, I pressed F8 and tried starting with last known working settings and also F8 then a repair option, opened a command prompt and tried reversing the command but it didn't seem to do anything.

Feb 14, 2009I need help guys!I have an empty torrent file that shows up on my start menu when I search it. I try to delete it and Vista doesn't let me. I get this message *"This is no longer located in c:usersmy cpu nameappadta oamingutorrent. Verify the item's location and try again."* The problem is that the actual file doesn't exist on my computer any more but it still shows up when I search for it from the start menu. Vista doesn't let me delete or rename it.
-taking ownership of the file
-using a unlocker program I downloaded
-using a file shedder program I downloaded
and none of these worked for me. Does anyone have any other ideas or solutions to this problem. Its driving me nuts!
DEP Stopping Itunes Loading
Jan 20, 2009I have been unable to load and use itunes because of a DEP message that pops up on screen shutting down the program.
I have done the following:
*uninstalled the programs itunes and quicktime
*uninstalled the programs completely using Crogram files - the additional way of uninstalling.
* reinstalled/uninstalled both programs about 4 times
* reinstalled quicktime as a stand alone program
* used Windows installer clean up
I can't turn DEP off by selecting itunes and putting into the marked exception box because an error message tells me that itunes MUST operate with DEP. It will not drag it into the box.
Security Stopping Some Files?

May 20, 2008I have the problem that when I restored my computer to an earlier time I had uninstalled Threatfire but it is still there and I can't get rid of it now. It is stopping me from downloading other programs! When I try to delete the folder in programs it tells me that I can't as I do not have the rights to do it even though I am the administrator and sole user of the computer. I have used CCleaner to try to remove it but it does not work either. I have tried in safe mode also.

Jun 18, 2008At some point I have pressed the 'receive updates for other products' on the Windows Update panel. I now have half a dozen updates for Office 2007 waiting for installation. I do not have Office 2007 - I do have Office 2000 and Works, so I don't see any point in downloading and installing these updates.I have tried hiding the updates, but because they are 'important' they reappear. Is there any way of deselecting the'other products' option so I go back to only checking for Windows updates?

I've tried all the suggestions I have found to date (including uninstalling OneNote, repairing registry issues etc etc) and I still can't get the damn thing to work. May 9, 2008I had a problem with my Microsoft Vista print spooler (spoolsv.exe) stopping on Data Execution Prevention (DEP) violations from the time I installed my HP and Lexmark printers. This has been only an irritation to date as I have set the spooler to always restart 1 minute after failure. However lately I am having more programs stop on DEP violation. The Microsoft Vista??? WMI Provider Host??? has stopped several times on DEP. I do not know what the ???Vista WMI Provider Host??? does. I did not see any adverse results with the Microsoft Vista??? WMI Provider Host??? stopped. So far my DEP violations have been random and inconsistent. The print spooler stops on DEP even when both printers are off. I have performed hardware checks as recommended by Dell and the computer hardware tested OK.

Feb 21, 2009Just trying to startup my laptop but all it is doing is showing the green bar going forward and nothing else happens, I can boot into safe mode ok and have also tried last known good config and booted from the Vista disk to do a restore, but still doesn't work.
I have also gone into msconfig and disable all non microsoft services and everything in startup.
HDD Not Starting
May 4, 2009Since getting the new machine, I have had continuing problems with keeping my extra dvd drive and HDDs operating (Code 43). After getting that solved I started experiencing problems with the HDDs not starting (Code 10). The dvd drive is always recognized, starts fine and stays running. Now my HDDs either will not start or aren't recognized. On the HDDs that don't start, I get a Code 10 error.....with a little more diagnostics I get an error message that Windows can load the driver software, but the software encounters a problem when trying to run. The driver is a Windows driver 6.0.6001.18000, not a third party driver.
I have extensively verified that ALL my hardware is Vista 64 bit compatible, is operating properly, all my drivers are up to date, all cables are tight, etc. In short, I have proven that this is not a hardware failure. I have even had one dvd and one HDD connected (on different Oxford boards) and operating correctly, but after an overnight reboot, the HDDs cannot be started because of the driver software problem.
The drive manufacturer, Western Digital, refuses to support EIDE drives connected via bridsgeboards to Firewire. The computer manufactuerer (HP) is equally clueless and their Tech Support doesn't even seem to understand the problem. They cop-out by saying it's a Microsft problem. And because Vista is pre-loaded, I don't have OEM disks to try a clean install....I can only do a System Restore.
Not Starting Up: Turned Off And On Again
Dec 20, 2008When I start my laptop up, just normally, I log in. I have that thing where I have to log in using a username and password, something that I downloaded and put into my registry. Anyway, all the time, when I log in, it takes forever to load up, it just stays as welcome and doesnt load. I left it for half an hour and it still hadnt loaded! So, I turned it off and on again, and it worked. But, a couple of times, I had to turn it off and on about 5 times ,and when it didnt load, I had to start it again in safe mode. THEN it worked. But, I hate safe mode!

Windows Not Re-starting

Starting Up After Updates
Dec 13, 2008Earlier today my computer had updates to intall so i clicked to install updates and shut down. This evening when I went to turn on my computer it said that iy had to run disk chk as it did this it said that file after file was corrupt and repairing this took a few minutes. After this the normal log in screnn appeared. I clicked on my name typed in my password then the screen went black and the pop up went as follows

I placed the cd in and nothing happened. I then started in safe mode and tried a system restore, but then I found I have no system restore points anymore. I tried to start with last known good start up but the same message appeared. I do not want to have to do a clean install as I have important work on my computer which isn't backed up.
PC Blocks When Starting
Jul 8, 2008I just installed a new video card MSI NX8800GT on a new Packard Bell that came with Vista pre-installed. I checked power supply which was sufficient (400w). Everything went smoothly also when installing the drivers which came on an MSI CD. When restarting the PC he blocked when he was on the desktop screen. After that it has been impossible to restart the pc. He blocks even before he starts uploading vista.

LiveTV and AVI play without any problem.I deinstalled some programmes, one of which was Nero 6 Express.This Nero was incompatible, but wanted to try it anyway. Feb 2, 2010Today, I was forced to use my Vista Ultimate installation disc to reinstall Vista - since yesterday morning, my computer was not able to get out of a loop (first going to Windows Error Recovery and then, when selecting any of the options, going to the green loading bar, where it the green bar stopped moving about 2/3 of the way, and going back to Windows Error Recovery).
The installation went smoothly enough, but I am absolutely clueless how to get my computer to roughly the same conditions it was before this fiasco. Fortunately, it would appear that all of my files and folders from before this re-installation have been saved in the folder Windows.old. However, I am at a complete loss as to how to reconfigure my Internet connection, how to restore my previous screen resolution (there are now only three options for resolution under Display Settings), and essentially getting the basics back in order.

Windows Not Starting/booting Sometimes?
May 9, 2009Hello, I came accross your forum and decided to give it a try since I saw the helpful people posting in other threads. I've asked this question in many other forums but no one seems to know whats wrong. For a few days now my PC would start and get to a black screen with a blinking "_" in the upper left corner. I would turn it off then turn it on again and it would work. I figured I'd just clean the dust out of it and do a factory restore later on (which I did).
But since yesterday, I've had to do 4 or 5 restores to set it to factory condition. It gets to the point where I get to that screen and I wait 5 or 10 minutes, then the screens says "fail to boot disk, please insert disk" or something. so I place in the disk that my PC promted to make when i first got it (for restoring and repairing it and such) and then everything works again. but eventually with all the automatic updates i have to restart of course, and it starts up again fine, but
after about 2 or 3 restarts it fails again.........

Mar 1, 2008i got a new graphic card installed in my computer, but when i hooked everything back up and started it up, it didnt really "start", bcuz the monitor goes blank on me then i restart it again and i get the same results.
