i got a new graphic card installed in my computer, but when i hooked everything back up and started it up, it didnt really "start", bcuz the monitor goes blank on me then i restart it again and i get the same results.
View 5 Repliessometimes and more than ever its doing it now, when I turn on my computer the screen just stays blank. Most times when I turn it off and on again it will recognize it then work fine, but as of lately it can take 10+ times. When it does this and you turn it off, it does flash the Analog and Digital box in the top left corner, meaning its recognizing it but it still wont work when computer is turned on again. Im thinking the problem is something to do with the Digital/Analog setting on my monitor, or something in the settings?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my PC it goes all the way to the loading screen (the progress bar) and then monitor goes blank and system reboots. I choose to start in safe mode (from the selection), it starts all good. Then I restart the PC and it boots well without any problems. However, next time I shut down, I have to go through the whole process again. Sometimes I see "dumping physical memory" with a blue screen, sometimes I don't. I THINK it has something to do with my video drivers, but I updated to the latest catalyst drivers and still same thing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

I insert a blank cd and it auto loads, then it asks to format before continueing, i click yes, it formats then right at the end it says unable to finish formatting and opens the cd. I then try to burn onto it and the cd stays blank.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

I keep all my sidebar gadgets to the other monitor so I can monitor temps and system diagnostics. Today, my sidebar is on my main monitor and no mater what I do it won't go back to monitor-2, no mater what the setting is in the sidebar properties. What is going on here?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to burn an audio CD on my computer (i've only had this computer for a few months and this is the first time I've tried burning any kind of disc), and when I put the CD in and hit burn it says that my cd is not blank, I tried a handful of blank cds and it spit them all back out at me saying it's not blank. Just to make sure, I opened my computer and looked at the disc there and it WAS blank, so I don't know what to do.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust trying to startup my laptop but all it is doing is showing the green bar going forward and nothing else happens, I can boot into safe mode ok and have also tried last known good config and booted from the Vista disk to do a restore, but still doesn't work.
I have also gone into msconfig and disable all non microsoft services and everything in startup.
Since getting the new machine, I have had continuing problems with keeping my extra dvd drive and HDDs operating (Code 43). After getting that solved I started experiencing problems with the HDDs not starting (Code 10). The dvd drive is always recognized, starts fine and stays running. Now my HDDs either will not start or aren't recognized. On the HDDs that don't start, I get a Code 10 error.....with a little more diagnostics I get an error message that Windows can load the driver software, but the software encounters a problem when trying to run. The driver is a Windows driver 6.0.6001.18000, not a third party driver.
I have extensively verified that ALL my hardware is Vista 64 bit compatible, is operating properly, all my drivers are up to date, all cables are tight, etc. In short, I have proven that this is not a hardware failure. I have even had one dvd and one HDD connected (on different Oxford boards) and operating correctly, but after an overnight reboot, the HDDs cannot be started because of the driver software problem.
The drive manufacturer, Western Digital, refuses to support EIDE drives connected via bridsgeboards to Firewire. The computer manufactuerer (HP) is equally clueless and their Tech Support doesn't even seem to understand the problem. They cop-out by saying it's a Microsft problem. And because Vista is pre-loaded, I don't have OEM disks to try a clean install....I can only do a System Restore.
When I start my laptop up, just normally, I log in. I have that thing where I have to log in using a username and password, something that I downloaded and put into my registry. Anyway, all the time, when I log in, it takes forever to load up, it just stays as welcome and doesnt load. I left it for half an hour and it still hadnt loaded! So, I turned it off and on again, and it worked. But, a couple of times, I had to turn it off and on about 5 times ,and when it didnt load, I had to start it again in safe mode. THEN it worked. But, I hate safe mode!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron running Vista. Had no problems until recently when the screensaver started to refuse to work. Even when I go to screen saver settings and select preview the screensaver just comes on for less than a second and goes off again.
I have got a wireless mouse but have always used it, I have tried unplugging it, but to no avail. I have also tried a selective startup with only microsoft programs on startup, but still no joy.
When I try to re-start Windows, the computer shuts down and try to start but instead beeps three times and don't start, then I have to press the power button to shut it down and wait about 10 minutes before starting again.

Earlier today my computer had updates to intall so i clicked to install updates and shut down. This evening when I went to turn on my computer it said that iy had to run disk chk as it did this it said that file after file was corrupt and repairing this took a few minutes. After this the normal log in screnn appeared. I clicked on my name typed in my password then the screen went black and the pop up went as follows

I placed the cd in and nothing happened. I then started in safe mode and tried a system restore, but then I found I have no system restore points anymore. I tried to start with last known good start up but the same message appeared. I do not want to have to do a clean install as I have important work on my computer which isn't backed up.
I just installed a new video card MSI NX8800GT on a new Packard Bell that came with Vista pre-installed. I checked power supply which was sufficient (400w). Everything went smoothly also when installing the drivers which came on an MSI CD. When restarting the PC he blocked when he was on the desktop screen. After that it has been impossible to restart the pc. He blocks even before he starts uploading vista.

LiveTV and AVI play without any problem.I deinstalled some programmes, one of which was Nero 6 Express.This Nero was incompatible, but wanted to try it anyway. Although i cannot pinpoint the cause of the crashes, but i suspect my Nero experiment. Anybody any 'serious' clue of how to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday, I was forced to use my Vista Ultimate installation disc to reinstall Vista - since yesterday morning, my computer was not able to get out of a loop (first going to Windows Error Recovery and then, when selecting any of the options, going to the green loading bar, where it the green bar stopped moving about 2/3 of the way, and going back to Windows Error Recovery).
The installation went smoothly enough, but I am absolutely clueless how to get my computer to roughly the same conditions it was before this fiasco. Fortunately, it would appear that all of my files and folders from before this re-installation have been saved in the folder Windows.old. However, I am at a complete loss as to how to reconfigure my Internet connection, how to restore my previous screen resolution (there are now only three options for resolution under Display Settings), and essentially getting the basics back in order.

Hello, I came accross your forum and decided to give it a try since I saw the helpful people posting in other threads. I've asked this question in many other forums but no one seems to know whats wrong. For a few days now my PC would start and get to a black screen with a blinking "_" in the upper left corner. I would turn it off then turn it on again and it would work. I figured I'd just clean the dust out of it and do a factory restore later on (which I did).
But since yesterday, I've had to do 4 or 5 restores to set it to factory condition. It gets to the point where I get to that screen and I wait 5 or 10 minutes, then the screens says "fail to boot disk, please insert disk" or something. so I place in the disk that my PC promted to make when i first got it (for restoring and repairing it and such) and then everything works again. but eventually with all the automatic updates i have to restart of course, and it starts up again fine, but
after about 2 or 3 restarts it fails again.........
i recently bought a new 500GB SATA 2.5" Internal Hard Drive for my Dell Inspiron1501 using Vista Home Basic 32Bit. I took my old hard drive and backed up all of the files i deemed nesseary on a seperate external, than shut it down, and swaped the hard drives. When i rebooted, i instered the vista installation disc, and i began to run through set-up. The error came when the box said it could not transfer files from D: Sources to C:$Windows.~LSSources, and error code 0x80070001. I have looked it up, but the only info i can find is when backing up your fils, not installing from strach. Please offer any assistance.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe Windows Event Log service does not start even though it is set for AUtomatic load. It will not even start when I go into Services and try to start it manually. The error message is: Windows could not start the Windows Event Log Service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process. The Network connection the Internet does not start at boot time. Instead I have to click Diagnose & Repair and then click Restart the DHCP client service. Then it works.................

View 8 Replies View RelatedRestarting a PC (DELL Inspiron 530 running Vista Home Premium) after check-disk run on start-up starts Windows to the 'Welcome' screen. However, logging into any of the user accounts initially produces the next 'Welcome' screen and the little 'wait' circle but then it goes black and only the white cursor is displayed, nothing else happens. In safe mode, the user account loads normally.
Prehistory: The PC had started to do odd things a while ago: take very very long to shut down, more or less freeze on some of the limited user accounts (the boys'), not shut down at all, and similar. Today, as a further attempt to right things, I ran the MS Disk Cleanup (normally I use CCleaner) and Check Disk option on start-up. That reported quite a lot of problems and fixes and took a long time.
I am not on my computer everyday due to illness. So when I sign on to get my computer up and running, it says that I have not run my Windows Defender for over 3 days and it should be done. I have it in "Automatically to run daily at 5:00AM." I am wondering if it is not running because the computer is not turned on at this time? When I then hit scan, it does do a full scan without any problems. I am wondering why , if you have any ideas why it is not doing it "Automatically". Have I done something wrong? I have gone into tools and checked, and it is set for what I stated above.

I have noticed that one newsgroup consistently shows the list of headers
starting several rows down from the top, while all others work correctly.

I was using Outlook Express on my XP machine until it died, so I switched
everything to my Vista laptop which has Microsoft Mail. It seems just about
the same, but all the emails and contacts are now separate files rather than
the old MDX format. I found some software that can be purchased that will
extract the emails into the new EML format, but I would think Microsoft
would have a built-in or freely available utility to do this, since both are
their products and included in the OS. Can I also install OE on my Vista
computer and then save emails as EML?

View 9 Replies View RelatedAlright i have a gateway laptop not too old at all. Running Vista home Prem. The back story is it froze and i hard reset it, upon restart it started to freeze on the green bar screen and wouldn't go past. Using a recovery partiton on the harddrive placed on there by gateway i attempted 3 times to restore the laptop to factory state, i got as far as the vista initial setup and it wouldnt go back to the desktop. Again it crashed doing the same green bar issues. Finally using a disc i found i deleted the partition and reinstalled vista, leaving the recovery section alone again. But it ran fine i thought i was in the good, so i started to try to get the drivers back, i installed the drivers for the webcam, touchpad, and video card. All were retrieved from the gateway support website. It crashed again the same green bar screen and not going past it. Now the issue, using F8 to get to the advanced boot screen none of the options do anything but send me back to the green bar starting the wait for nothing to happen again. i Also attempted to do a factory state repair with that recovery partition, but it sends me to the green bar. Same thing occurs wif i attempt to use the disc to just install vista, it prompts to press any key to load from cd/dvd i do so it says windows loading files loads for a good 3 mins, then just sends me to the green bar again. Also i cannot access the command prompt or i would attempt to delete the partition again. I cant figure out whats wrong and i know as far as ive gone would exceed what geek squad or most the the random computer repair shops could do. And seeing how its refusing to load a recovery from the vista cd/dvd i doubt anyone could get anywhere with it.
