I have just installed Home Premium 32bit. All the updates are done. i installed it on a older gateway pc with a amd 3800x2 cpu and 1g of memory. I have a onboard nivida geforce 6100 video. i have downloaded a driver from nivida but no help. the screen doesn't flicker while typing fix but if i scoll the page it will.
View 5 RepliesEvery time I get one of those UAC prompts asking me to authorize an administrative action my LCD screen flashes when the box pops up. This is caused by the switch to the secure desktop, similar to what happens when you hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE. The only difference is that the background is a snapshot of your desktop that gives it the effect that it is just a pop up window. Although if you look carefully you will notice it is static since the clock does not change and anything else that was animated is now static. The secure desktop provides an extra level of security to UAC by making it immune to any application that may try to automate the click on the allow button bypassing the purpose of UAC.
This sounds like a great thing but it is really annoying to me. I hate that screen flicker. Rather than disable UAC, there is a better alternative. Instead, I can just disable the secure desktop switch that causes the flicker. I know this is not as secure but it is better than disabling UAC completely.

I can't get it to work. I tried running as administrator and no luck. I have a Asus G2 series gaming laptop-OS Vista Home premium 32 bit. The game installed great, but as soon as I click on the shortcut from the desktop it will flicker a black screen and just return me to my desktop. I tried putting my computer in a 800x600 resolustion and still didn't start it.

When I am typing it suddenly does something (maybe called a flicker) and the curser ends up somewhere else on the page.... (and the letters get typed out of place). I have my monitor set for 1024 X 768, I tried to raise the Monitor setting screen refresh rate, but it is set at 60 Hertz and there is no other option for it. If I increase the pixels there is still only 60 Hertz setting option. What is this problem and how can I get it fixed. Getting tired of screwed up text.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Advent laptop which recently decided not to load Windows Vista, when i tried to launch from the error recovery page it wouldnt start andjust gave me a blank screen. It also didnt work using a the windows Vista download from neosmart. and gave me the same blank screen when loading from the multi-boot screen.
I then downloaded a program called 'KillDisk' and i asked it to wipe out my Vista from my computer, whichit done succesfully, i decided to try my Windows Vista recovery disc and this time it did load the installation page, i put in my product key before it said there was something wrong (Cant remember exactly) i then tried to restore it using the repair computer options on the installation page before itthen said what was wrong with my laptop, 'Boot sector for system disk partition is corrupt' How can i sort this out!?!
my windows vista home will not load to the login page. it all started when my computer would not shut down. as it wouldnt i pressed the off button left it for a couple of mins and turned it back on again. it came up saying that there was a problem and i selected to have it automatically fix the problem. it said it could take a few times for it to work. on the second try it said it could not fix the problem and gave option send message to windows.....

same time I have a small circle that indicates the program is grinding away. I have had similar issues with Word when I try to print an envelope. This has also happened with other software applications such as Quicken 2008. Rebooting the machine temporaily solves the problem, but not alway.
Steam Game UI Error video by dyrnwyn_images - Photobucket. This video shows a problem I've been having...along with the occasional minimizing of games launched or owned by Steam. View 7 Replies View RelatedYesterday I removed my ATI Radeon X800Pro card because it caused graphics issues. I rebooted the computer and it automatically switched to the nvidia GeForce 6100 GPU onboard graphics. It had a fairly updated Windows driver installed for it. I went to nvidia to download the newest driver. During the installation of that driver, the screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted my pc and now it doesn't show the Vista log-in screen anymore. All I get is that little green bar on the bottom and then the screen turns black. All I can see is a tiny little green strip (of the log-in page) on the top of my screen. How can I fix that? I still got XP, which I am using right now. I tried to boot Vista in Safe mode but it got stuck while it was loading the drivers...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to Install Windows Vista Ultimate OEM 32-bit on my new build that I recently purchased. I have got to different stages and have had so many errors that I have lost track. I have got the BSOD numerous times and to be honest, I don't know why I decided to buy Vista. I have got so far to the Hard drive drvers screen before I plugged in my USB memory stick and it stopped responding. After that, I haven't go as far. Sometimes I get a BSOD right after it has finished loading the files explaining to me that it couldn't write to the memory because it was read-protected. I haved also got to the language select screen but it doesn't respond. I've even got as far as the regristration key input (again) and I get a little pop-up box saying all sorts of errors. Is it my system which isn't compatible? (BTW my Vista is legal)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my mouse and the screen saver. I am using a laptop. I find that with the Kensignton USB mouse plugged in, my screen saver doesn't work. And yet if I unplug it from the usb port, the screen saver now works. As well, the mouse (when it is plugged in) wants to run the 'sidebar' down to the bottom on screens that have lots of data. I have to unplug the mouse and use my finger to move the mouse around.

I just bought a new computer (HP Elite M9060N) with vista on it and a Geforce 8500GTS NVIDIA card (factory installed). When I try to extend my desktop onto my tv (using Dualview) it doesn't fill the entire screen. It leaves a black ring around the outside. I've tried adjusting the resolution, but it doesn't work. In addition to the ring, the resolution on the tv looks horrible. I have the refresh rate maxed out and tried flip flopping which monitor is my primary but just can't seem to get it to work. I'm also using a Samsung LCD 20" monitor and connecting my extra monitor with an HDMI cable.........

The cool thing i saw on that Mac was that, when not in use for a few seconds, the screen saver or the power saver doesn't appear, but first the brightness of the screen got to its minimum and then the screen went into power saver mode.
Is there a way to make my Vista do that as well? So instead of a screen saver, it would just turn the brightness to its lowest point and after a few minutes, it would go completely dark to save energy?
Whenever I click the link to open an online radio station windows media player within internet explorer just says Ready - it doesn't even begin to buffer and doesn't play at all. Has anyone else experienced this recently?

The response when I click on Explorer icon is that it cannot access the web page. Has anyone experienced this? I was asked if I wanted to prevent change to my home page and I answered yes because very often certain web sites try to make themselves your home page. Now I want to change my home page to comcast.net but every time I reboot it goes back to MSN as my home page. I went to tools/internet options and changed my home page to Comcast and clicked apply but whenever I start IE8 it reverts back to MSN for my home page. How can I make it keep comcast as my home page?

Do you want to open this folder?, Yes or No". When clicking ?Yes? you are taken to a folder named ?Virtualized?, which contains no files. Also the PDF printer dialog box shows "Error - Printing" and the PDF printer refuses to print. PDF files can be saved from other programs with no problems. View 7 Replies View RelatedI get this literally every time i surf the net for a while. basically IE gives that message and then kills the internet, firefox does not work either. there is nothing wrong with the TCP/IP as i can ping the sites no problem. only method of fix rite now is to restart, but that is unrealistic and just a work-around. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
I have the old problem of the hyperlinks not working in preview mode.

I'm wondering if it's caused by there being two versions of IE, 32 and 64 bit.
For years I have used a financial services website to monitor my investment portfolio (www.moneyextra.com ) For years with Windows XP/IE6 and later with XP/IE7 everything worked (and still works) perfectly. I now have another machine running Vista Home Premium SP1 with IE7 which will not work reliably with this website. When I view my portfolio, some of the web pages are often incomplete - but sometimes they are complete.
I have tried using the MS User Agent String Utility to emulate IE6 but this does not work predictably either. Sometimes when I use this utility the website is incomplete - but when I subsequently open a new browser it is OK. If I close and reopen the browser the fault usually reappears. The behavior is unpredictable......
Whenever I am playing some kind of music in the background, and I go to scroll up and down a page, the music gets muffled or degraded and slows down. This only happens when i Scroll on a page. Moving Graphics tend to slow down too when I scroll.

It went there once, I tried to make choices and go on but it hung. It just keeps going to {url} and erroring out with "Page cannot be displayed." I have set my homepage to MSN.com and if I click home it goes there biut it opens everytime to and erroring out with "Page cannot be displayed."
just been looking at the windows activation page on my new PC, Where it says product ID: it has a list of numbers in this order= 5 numbers - 3 numbers - 7 numbers - 5 numbers Non of these numbers match what is on the sticker on the back of the machine! On that sticker it's a mix of numbers and letters. Do I just click continue with the line of numbers which is already there, or do I insert the number and letter combination which is on my sticker?
I posted this in another forum and one person said the id that is already there and the key on the sticker should be different! The other person said delete the numbers and put the letter and numbers from the sticker in there!
