Steam Game UI Error video by dyrnwyn_images - Photobucket. This video shows a problem I've been having...along with the occasional minimizing of games launched or owned by Steam. It does not happen with non steam games. And after minimizing, the overlay flicker goes away. I would really like to know wtf is going on here. Latest drivers...vista 64, no viruses, SLI 285 GTX.
I can't get it to work. I tried running as administrator and no luck. I have a Asus G2 series gaming laptop-OS Vista Home premium 32 bit. The game installed great, but as soon as I click on the shortcut from the desktop it will flicker a black screen and just return me to my desktop. I tried putting my computer in a 800x600 resolustion and still didn't start it.
On vista (32bit), Game Overlay doesn't seem to work...Maybe because game overlay doesn't support directx10 So should i instal directx9? what would directx9 change? Or can anybody tell me how to let game overlay run with directx10? (btw, I would like to use gameoverlay in guild wars)
While dual core and quad core processors are a great advance in processing power, many games in XP and Vista run better on a single core. Need for Speed Underground is one such game. In my search to find an easy way to set processor affinity, I found the easy method outlined below. This method is the best I've found and actually WORKS without having to make system-wide changes. Here's a tip I use for some games which have problems with dual core. It saves the trouble of [alt][tab] out of the game each time, and I find it easier than creating a batch file. You may have already seen this, if so, the short answer is written in red at the bottom of this post..... Affinity and priority can be permanently added to an application's shortcut so that you don't have to change it every time you run it. To begin, create a shortcut to the game on the desktop. Right click the shortcut and select properties. In the "shortcut" tab, find the line for "target". Copy this in front of the target: C:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe /C START "Need for Speed Undercover" /high /affinity 1. Now, NFS Underground will automatically run in high priority on Core 0. Here's an example for the game Tombraider Legend which also balks at dual core processing.
The target line originally looks like this: "C:Program Files (x86)Tomb Raider - Legend rl.exe" So I change it to this: :WindowsSystem32cmd.exe /C START "Tomb Raider" /high /affinity 1 "C:Program Files (x86)Tomb Raider - Legend rl.exe" The affinity can be set to any CPU core by changing the number to the corresponding hex value. 1st core = 1 2nd core = 2 3rd core = 4 4th core = 8 5th core = 10 ( hexadecimal 16 ) 6th core = 20 ( hexadecimal 32 )........
I uninstalled a game, but the game never uninstalled the shortcuts on the desktop. Upon attempting the deletion of these icons a window pops up and says it cannot locate file and will not delete...
I've been running into a problem lately running Steam on vista. It seems that whenever I start the steam client it crashes 26% into updating itself with some weird exception. I tried uninstalling steam and then reinstalling steam to see if this solved the problem, but I haven't had much luck so far. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue, and possibly, does anyone know of any work arounds.
I have just installed Home Premium 32bit. All the updates are done. i installed it on a older gateway pc with a amd 3800x2 cpu and 1g of memory. I have a onboard nivida geforce 6100 video. i have downloaded a driver from nivida but no help. the screen doesn't flicker while typing fix but if i scoll the page it will.
when i open Performance Tab in Options i can NOT find overlays OR Advanced ptions. why? only Drop frames to keep. Use video Smoothing Display full-screen control Turn on Directx video Acceleration were is the YUV overlay & Acceleration control in WMP 11? All the colors in my video files are all over the place! dvds the same but pics are fine.
Every time I get one of those UAC prompts asking me to authorize an administrative action my LCD screen flashes when the box pops up. This is caused by the switch to the secure desktop, similar to what happens when you hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE. The only difference is that the background is a snapshot of your desktop that gives it the effect that it is just a pop up window. Although if you look carefully you will notice it is static since the clock does not change and anything else that was animated is now static. The secure desktop provides an extra level of security to UAC by making it immune to any application that may try to automate the click on the allow button bypassing the purpose of UAC.
This sounds like a great thing but it is really annoying to me. I hate that screen flicker. Rather than disable UAC, there is a better alternative. Instead, I can just disable the secure desktop switch that causes the flicker. I know this is not as secure but it is better than disabling UAC completely.Â
Follow the steps below to disable UAC secure desktop: ...
I suddenly got this overlay on my computer screen. Split right down the middle like someone laid a peice of paper over it. Sometimes it fades and you can see the screen behind it. Sometimes there is a band in the middle and the other side is visible with my mouse traveling to it like with a dual screen set up. Is there any way I can find out what is causing this? Everything else looks too good for it to be a graphics card going out?
I'm having a problem with the overlay title on selected clips feature on WMM bleeding from one pix to another. I have around 300 pix and all are fine but a couple of cells. I don't want to slow the transition on all pix and I don't think it's possible to do it on select ones. Is there any other way to correct this problem?
my computer have a problem rendering iTunes and Steam; they always seemed blurred or "Fuzzy". Here is an image of what I'm talking about link. The fonts for install menus also look like this and even interestingly enough so does the Nvidia Control Panel.
the game has installed but once tryin to load it says this
Error3:
Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for ( The game) (suberror 7). Your video card must support hardware acceleration and have at least 15 megabytes of video Ram available. i fyour video card doesnt support compressed textures it must have at least 64 megabytes if video RAM available.
I have tried going into the display settings and advanced settings then troubleshooting but my computer does not allow me to change it as the icon is grayed out.
the details of my graphics card are
operating system: windows vista tm home premium (6.0, build 6001)
Just got Vista (32). Battlefield 1942 expansion installed fine. runs for a second or 2 then crashes. Tried to reinstal, same thing. Came up with (game failed, game closing)?
Got this dang computer (HP) with Vista Home. It drives me nuts. When I am typing it suddenly does something (maybe called a flicker) and the curser ends up somewhere else on the page.... (and the letters get typed out of place). I have my monitor set for 1024 X 768, I tried to raise the Monitor setting screen refresh rate, but it is set at 60 Hertz and there is no other option for it. If I increase the pixels there is still only 60 Hertz setting option. What is this problem and how can I get it fixed. Getting tired of screwed up text.
I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.
I've tried 1)reinstalling/repatching 2)run the exe as admin. 3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.
I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.
I finally decided to upgrade to Vista, and since I have 4GB ram I thought I'd give 64bit a shot. Every game I play crashes, or fails to load at all, or gets into the game and crashes during map load. I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed. I have installed and re-installed the OS multiple times to no effect. I've downloaded all of the windows updates. During one of my first installs of vista, I was able to get in to games of codwaw, but then it would crash after about 5 secs.......
I want to rename /Desktop/Linux_Mag_Bugs.eml to /Desktop/Bugs.txt A right click on the icon does not give me the opportunity to change the suffix. Question: How can you change a file suffix?
I just cleared my desktop because it was absolutely cluttered with icons and stuff, but now it's like the Icons are part of the wallpaper, because I can't click on them, can't drag them, and if I drag a different icon over it it's still there underneath the other one.
I've been trying to set up a remote desktop connection between my laptop and my desktop both running on Vista Home Premium. Why does this error come up:
"This computer can't connect to the remote computer."
when they are both connected (wirelessly) via the same network.
I don't find the desktop to be of much use, too many icons take away from the image I choose to display, but I do use the desktop toolbar from the taskbar quite a bit. There are icons that I cannot remove from the desktop toolbar such as the Network & Control Panel icons they won’t leave the toolbar, and I can’t seem to kill the IE icon off for good, either.
I have rebooted my Laptop normally, I logged into Windows Vista and i was surprised by having the Desktop background disappeared along with it's Icons. The programs work fine... I tried choosing a picture and setting it to a desktop background. Still nothing. I terminated explorer.exe, The desktop background appeared. but since i terminated it, the taskbar and icons are gone. I Can't right click on the desktop, and when i move the cursor inside it, it's still "loading" for ever.
I was working on the computer today using several programs and when I went back to the desktop, I noticed a sort of ghosted out icon that looks like a gear on top of a sheet of lined paper and the words "desktop.ini" under it. I have no idea how it got there. Is it safe for me to delete it or is there a better way of getting rid of it.
i can't alt-tab out of a steam game, counter-strike. it's never done this before, and i'm trying to think of what i may have done for this to occur, but nothing comes to me. the only thing i can do to get out of the game is by quitting the game itself, or ctrl-alt-del to task manager. when i go to task manager, it says that the "aero" theme of vista isn't compatible with the game. like i said, it's never had this problem before.
I found an old game, DUNE2, and tried to run it. I received an error message that my system does not support fullscreen mode. I am running Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
I play World of Warcraft for a long time now. First i started play on windows XP with my internet ADSL (3mbs speed). But then i bought a new PC and came with windows Vista. I like working with this OS, its cool. But now i can hardly play my favorite game. because I have a big lag in the game (4/5 ms). can anyone tell what i have to do to reduce my lag??
