Whenever I am playing some kind of music in the background, and I go to scroll up and down a page, the music gets muffled or degraded and slows down. This only happens when i Scroll on a page. Moving Graphics tend to slow down too when I scroll.
View 9 RepliesI just purchased a Wireless Mobile Laser Mouse 6000 thinking it would be compatabile with Vista 64. After the computer sleeps or hibernates the scroll wheel slows down to a very slow crawl. I have to disconnect the nano receiver wait about 2 minutes and then reconnect.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Microsoft optical mouse. It's a couple of years old and I'm trying to determine whether it's faulty or not. The problem seems to be with the scroll wheel. When on a webpage and using the wheel to scroll, often the page will continue to scroll (only another 50 or so pixels) after I've released the mouse. It seems to be at least a full second or two after I've finished scrolling, let go of the mouse then the page continues to scroll (only by one increment/decrement). It doesn't seem to be the wheel clicking into place either, as I first thought. I'm trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this and/or whether it could be a registry setting or something else causing this. Otherwise, it's a hardware issue.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that won't go away- while working on any kind of software (either from the MS house, or from other places), my system decides to scroll up, and stay there. it doesn't let me scroll back down to the place i was working. imagine that you are in the calender of outlook- and sudenly you are in 1996, and it will not come back to the present. this thing happens with different mouses attached to the computer, and when only the internal mouse is attached.
I have a Lenovo T-500 with Vista Buisness installed on it. a support call to IBM gave me the suggestion to install a new mouse driver- I did that, it happened again. the only way to be able to work again is to restart the system. i have scanned the computer using Anti-virus. loaded all the updates the system reomends, and am now ready to give up.
Every time you use the scroll wheel on your mouse you scroll 4 lines at a time in Windows Vista. This is adequate for most users but did you know that it is possible to tweak this setting to make your scroll wheel more or less sensitive? It is possible with a quick little reg hack.
Click on the Start Button and key in regedit and hit Enter....
The scroll bar on the right side of my Windows mail box is missing. Cannot figure how to fix it. I have Vista, Windows Mail 6.0.

When I plug the key into my laptop, Vista 64 slows down noticeably. The light on the key keeps flashing and no matter what window I'm in, the spinning busy disc by the mouse pointer keeps going like the Ever Ready bunny. Task Manager shows the CPU hustling towards 100%.
At first I thought it was the indexing, but after disabling windows search and rebooting, he problem is still there?
When I am downloading my CPU is at 100% and as a result my computer slows down. I have AVG installed and have scanned my computer and have found no viruses or spyware. I have checked the task manager and there is a process called System - NT Kernal & System and it runs at 70% when downloading - surely this isnt normal.
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust finished my new build, and the computer has had a 'bottleneck' or 'hiccup' every -10 seconds since i booted it, the windows splash screen has a 'hiccup' at the windows light logo. Everything(word processing, web surfing, gaming, watching a video) is affected by this and I am wondering how to solve this problem. I have tried to update all of the drivers, I flashed the BIOS. I am going to try to troubleshoot this for another week or so and then try to reinstall windows. My windows experience index is 5.9 across the board.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running Home Premium n an HP laptop and up until yesterday everything was just fine. I also have SP1 and that went well. Yesterday, the system kept freezing or operating extremely slow and for the life of me I had no clue of what was going on. I had to press and hold the power button to shut down so I could reboot. I could not open Control Panel at all - the hour glass just kept swirling but nothing else would happen. After the reboot the system displayed the same behavior and at this point I noticed that it wasn't really locked up but in fact operating so slow that it appeared that way.
After no luck with the obvious I checked the startup group - nothing there, I cleared out the temp folders and files which seemed to help. I decided to simply use a system restore to a previous state of a few days ago. The first time I did this, I got a message that Windows was NOT successful with the restore. I tried an earlier restore point and got the same notification that the restore was NOT successful but it appeared that it was. A program I installed after that particular restore point was gone and the system seemed to be better -
I have a Asus pro80 series laptop with Vista 32 bit. I connect using the ethernet Lan. Uptil about one month ago averything was fine. Since then my Connection after about 10 to 20 minutes slows right down until it stops. It dosn't actually disconnect from my provider. it just stops. If I dis-connect and re-connect then it will work again for a while. Then stops.
What I have tried so far: Updated the drivers for the realtek ethernet. Reinstalled Vista Installed the vista service pack 1 Checked power settings for the ethernet card. Other info: I know that the connection its self is ok as i use the same cable for my works laptop without any problem. Hardware manager says all is running correctly Changing user has no impact.
My daughter purchased a Dell PC that has Vista 64 bit loaded. We didn't realize it was the 64 bit version until recently. Her problem is with IE. She has broadband access, but as soon as she drills down more than two levels, her browser slows right down. For some reason, it worked well and fast for about a month, but she recently rebooted her PC and it's s-l-o-w again. Has any else experienced this problem? Is there any way or reason to go to the 32 bit version of Vista?

I have a feeling this may be a virus I have always been very careful with what I do on the tinterweb and generally look after the computer as best I can. I have been using Windows Defender firewall and AVG antivirus and spyware.
I downloaded a file last night, placed it inside My Documents> Downloads. I now have reason the believe its a virus. All in all the computer runs like a dream, but since downloading this file, whenever I go into my Documents, my CPU speed jumps up to around 50% and stays there, then If I go into my Downloads file within my documents, my CPU speed shoots up to 100% and hangs there until the computer is restarted? The file that was downloaded is the only file within the Downloads file. I'm 99.9% sure that whatever it is, its causing this problem. If for example I just turn the machine on and dont access my Docs, it runs fine and only slows down when my Documents is accessed. The file that was downloaded is 10mb's, whenever I try to delete it, the dialog just comes up saying calculating time remaining and doesnt budge. I have scanned my docuemnts and no virus was detected by AVG, I just want to get rid of this file but dont know how!
I have FRISR-Rescue so I'm typing this in my backup image and it has SP1 in it. I installed SP2 to my original and it has slowed my page loading to a crawl, especially Google. The image I'm in is working OK. After install I defraged the drive but didn't seem to help much. It just takes forever to load a page.

When i have this 'enabled' it takes my machine about 6-8 minutes to boot up, so I found that if I 'disable' the device everything runs as normal and the laptop boots up in seconds but then I cannot use the Micro SD slot as it is disabled.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having this weird problem with my Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit system since I installed it. Pretty much, when I run cpu intensive programs like iTunes, the computer slows down significantly to the point where the mouse no longer moves smoothly (it jumps every so often). Furthermore, if iTunes is minimized while playing music and I maximize it, the music starts skipping and repeating itself for about a minute and then starts playing normally again. However, this only happens with a few programs, and I've run Prime95 (four instances to test an overclock) for 12 hours with no problems. During the torture test, my mouse moved fine and the cpu was at 100%. Furthermore, during the slowdown, my CPU is only at 25% usage and physical memory is at 30%. Any idea what could be causing this?
It also happens during the printing of a lightscribe label. While doing this, my cursor and the computer won't function properly until the label is finished printing, at which point it speeds up instantly. To give you an idea, when I pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL during the hangup, it took 23 seconds for the screen to change to the option menu compared to the usual time of less than a second.
I recently turn on indexing for certain areas like users and start menu but it temporarily slows the games down when its indexing. Is there any tuning I could do to alleviate this? I would like to keep indexing but maybe make it not index when gaming.

View 9 Replies View RelatedProblem is network bandwidth as measured by the speed test(s) will decrease over time without any changes being made -- it does not matter what time of day either. It is a Vista PC running SP2 and hard wired to a Linksys router (Wireless-G model) and I am a Comcast customer with 30mbps service. Maybe I should mention this PC sits idle for most of the day before the family comes home from school. All of the XP systems in the house do NOT have this problem.
As you can see over the course of 5 days the download speed drops into the 2-3 mbps range (and the upload speeds are greater than the download speeds !! ) The 12mbps measurement was taken after the reboot. The only fix I have found is rebooting the machine --- then performance is as expected for a day or so before it starts to drop again.
How do we get rid of those keyboard icons in the systray that indicate caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock?

The response when I click on Explorer icon is that it cannot access the web page. Has anyone experienced this? I had Comcast come out and they tried to restore system to day before this happened and it didn't work.

I was asked if I wanted to prevent change to my home page and I answered yes because very often certain web sites try to make themselves your home page. Now I want to change my home page to comcast.net but every time I reboot it goes back to MSN as my home page. I went to tools/internet options and changed my home page to Comcast and clicked apply but whenever I start IE8 it reverts back to MSN for my home page. How can I make it keep comcast as my home page?

Do you want to open this folder?, Yes or No". When clicking ?Yes? you are taken to a folder named ?Virtualized?, which contains no files. Also the PDF printer dialog box shows "Error - Printing" and the PDF printer refuses to print. PDF files can be saved from other programs with no problems. The web page can also be printed to local or network printers. We are not using Zone Alarm
View 7 Replies View RelatedI get this literally every time i surf the net for a while. basically IE gives that message and then kills the internet, firefox does not work either. there is nothing wrong with the TCP/IP as i can ping the sites no problem. only method of fix rite now is to restart, but that is unrealistic and just a work-around.
