THE "HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator" shows up in Programs and eatures, but the size cell is empty!! Indicator lost during a previous "fix" of an unrelated problem. HP states they can neither replace the file nor download the file contenets. What, Where, and How can I retrieve the indicator as I have a &$@*+ remote keyboard?
I've just gotten a new computer with home premume vista 64 but i'm still using my old 'microsoft' wireless keyboard and mouse. Unlike the XP profesional, there is no 'caps lock' indication any where.
Whenever I press the Caps Lock or Bloc Num buttons, the keyboard gets disabled, and it doesn't work anymore.. I have to restart the system. I installed the last windows vista update few days ago, and also my touchpad now doesn't work (it's not a problem of drivers update), I don't know if this one can be the reason of the keyboard problem.
I have Vista where an indicator pops up whenever you turn Caps Lock on and off. Earlier today, whenever I turned Caps Lock on or off, I couldn't type for a few seconds, which was annoying. When I tried it again later, there was no delay. The page below says how to turn off this annoying feature, but I don't have a folder called WidcommBT. Do you know what I could look for? Have you found that this popup delays your keyboard?
I'm a n00b here, I used the 'glorious' "Search" button- but I'm not really sure what I've found is specific to my issue. The Issue at Hand: When typing either in a forum (such as this), and email or Word Doc. and I click on the 'caps lock'. my cursor get's 'kicked' off the sentance I'm writing and I have to use my mouse or mouse pad to get back on where I was. What the heck is this all about? I turned off the 'caps lock'notification; but it keeps appearing.
Does anyone know how to configure Vista so that if a Remote Assistance session end ths client being remotely controlled screen locks? Secondly - do you know how to configure the remotely assisted Vista desktop to automatically allow the remote controller UAC control? (the remote controller user will be a member of the local admin group on the controlled PC.)
I downloaded a bandwidth meter, after getting excess data usage on my cable bill. We only surf, upload pics, forums, occasional DL, etc. Nothing heavy. Yesterday I used 750 mb just surfing!! the only DL I did was a 22mb Adware, to check for spyware. no viruses, well protected here. I uninstalled yahoo, bitching that it must be that. I saw a drop, but not enough to use as much as i was, just surfing. I got to thinking about how years ago, Norton (or McAffee I forget) used to DL mail to their server, scan it and then redownload it to your computer. I thought Norton must have a similar bug. I was 31 days into my 90 day trial, and that has been the only major change on here. I uninstalled Norton and viola usage is down about 90%. I always thought it was strange that Norton never notified me of anything, but obviously it was busy doing something in the background. Just the occasional notification (rarely) that it found a problem and fixed it. Although they were idiotic notifications, like we found a cookie and fixed it.
Whenever I am playing some kind of music in the background, and I go to scroll up and down a page, the music gets muffled or degraded and slows down. This only happens when i Scroll on a page. Moving Graphics tend to slow down too when I scroll.
I have a problem that won't go away- while working on any kind of software (either from the MS house, or from other places), my system decides to scroll up, and stay there. it doesn't let me scroll back down to the place i was working. imagine that you are in the calender of outlook- and sudenly you are in 1996, and it will not come back to the present. this thing happens with different mouses attached to the computer, and when only the internal mouse is attached.
I have a Lenovo T-500 with Vista Buisness installed on it. a support call to IBM gave me the suggestion to install a new mouse driver- I did that, it happened again. the only way to be able to work again is to restart the system. i have scanned the computer using Anti-virus. loaded all the updates the system reomends, and am now ready to give up.
i bought a hp pavilion about 6 months ago and ever since i have been experiencing battery problem, first i have 2 over heat, did the battery calibration thing it said the battery need to be changed, so i bought a new one. The new now after about 75% discharge it plug it in, battery indicator said it's plug in but it not charging. for me to charge the battery i have to shut the system down for a while and let the battery cool other wise it wont charge..have any one experience this problem before.
I have just switched to Vista x64 from Vista x32. I have 4 gb DDR2 ram and my system information shows this. When I run the DXDIAG and 3D mark vantage they are indicating I only have 2.6gb ram,,,,,,,, I am assuming it is these programmes that are showing the wrong information is this correct
Every time you use the scroll wheel on your mouse you scroll 4 lines at a time in Windows Vista. This is adequate for most users but did you know that it is possible to tweak this setting to make your scroll wheel more or less sensitive? It is possible with a quick little reg hack.
Click on the Start Button and key in regedit and hit Enter....
On my son's Dell laptop (Vista Home Premium, SP2) his battery indicator icon has disappeared off his taskbar. I'm sure there's a way to find it and have it show up in the lower right taskbar location but can't help him find it since my Vista system is a desktop. How locate and re-instate this feature?
I have a Microsoft optical mouse. It's a couple of years old and I'm trying to determine whether it's faulty or not. The problem seems to be with the scroll wheel. When on a webpage and using the wheel to scroll, often the page will continue to scroll (only another 50 or so pixels) after I've released the mouse. It seems to be at least a full second or two after I've finished scrolling, let go of the mouse then the page continues to scroll (only by one increment/decrement). It doesn't seem to be the wheel clicking into place either, as I first thought. I'm trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this and/or whether it could be a registry setting or something else causing this. Otherwise, it's a hardware issue.
I have an Epson Stylus C64 printer which I am able to use as normal (with ink levels and status monitor appearing) on my old computer with Windows XP.
My new laptop is Vista and although I have installed the Epson Stylus Printer Software that came with the printer onto the laptop, the Ink Indicator Levels and the Epson Status Monitor options showing in 'Printer Prefences' seem to be grayed-out/disabled. I am unable to gauge my ink levels so have no idea how much ink I have available and/or when to replace it. The actual printing seems to be fine at the moment but I am unable to tell when the ink requires replacing.
I have tried to re-install the Epson Printer software but nothing seems to change - the ink levels and status monitor contine to be disabled/grayed out. I noticed that when installing the software I am asked to disable any anti-virus software - I have Norton installed but have no idea how to uninstall it - my computer also seems to be automatically provided with something called McAfee Security - again I am unsure how to disable this and whether in fact I need to do this - it may be that the anti-virus programs are hindering the Epson software from fully loading? Any ideas and/or suggestions would be most welcome.
I just purchased a Wireless Mobile Laser Mouse 6000 thinking it would be compatabile with Vista 64. After the computer sleeps or hibernates the scroll wheel slows down to a very slow crawl. I have to disconnect the nano receiver wait about 2 minutes and then reconnect.
My HDD activity indicator lights up for 20 minutes and even mouse cursor freezes some times. This is because of uTorrent 1.8.3 and video conversion activity I guess. Will increasing of RAM from 2gb to 6gb help? Can I combine 2x1gb 800mhz installed modules with new 2x2gb 1066mhz modules? Page file is on G: HDD already, not C:. Windows Vista is x64.
Windows Home Premium 32bit. the capacity indicator show the "D" drive to have about 4GB free space out of 10GB. Yet, when I explore the drive, there is nothing there. I had previously been backing up to that drive but deleted those backup files. Yes, i have "view hidden files" turned on and still nothing except for a MediaID.bin file which consumes a whopping 1KB. Have no idea what is using 6GB of D drive space.
I lock up often... randomly. To unlock, I have to activate task manager and then click "look for solution" which re-starts IE losing in the process whatever work I am doing.
I have run antivirus many times and found none (Window defender, Norton and McAfee), I ran (twice) SFC /scannow and did not find corrupted files, I have run diagnostic hard drive and memory test more than twice and passed all each time.
What's the reason for these frequent lock ups? How do I correct this problem?
Is there any other way to lock vista without going into start menu and clicking on lock this computer, as i want to have it assigned to a multimedia key on my keyboard.
Like there a sleep button on my keyboard, but when i use it, it sleeps, dissconecting me from the net and etc so my downloads will stop.
Just want to be able to have a key that when i press it will just lock the screen of my pc and thats all.
Anyone tell me how to restrict a user on Vista Business to only run one single program? I'm talking no control panel, no search, nothing except my program, log off, shutdown, and restart. Have basically gotten all programs taken off the start menu and am stuck. Need to disable the access to the user account and the search box.
I built two of these systems around may2008, one for me and one for my wife. The only difference between the two is she has 2 sticks of ram (I have 4 but same memory) and her video card is different (EVGA 640-P2-N829-CR GeForce 8800 GTS SSC Edition 640MB). From the get go we both had problems with usb devices not waking up after sleep mode. That was fixed by using a usb to ps2 adapter.
Over the course of the past few weeks both of the systems were freezing (locking up might be a better word since everything stops working mouse, keyboard etc etc) and a hard boot was the only way out of it. This seemed to occur around the same time as the latest vista security update (possibly a coincedance). This week the problem persisted for both pc's and then wednesday night when my wife's went down she hard booted to find that her registry was corrupted (I'm guessing this happened as a result of the hard boot) she put in her windows disk to repair the error only to find that the kernel was then corrupted as well. Windows seemed to fix the kernel problem during repair and she was able to use her system all day the next day with only a minor freeze untill vista installed the update again at which time her pc became hosed once again on reboot..........
I recently pulled a friend's ASUS G50V running on Windows Vista Home Premium x64 out to try and repair. The notebook itself is about 14 months old, but was only running for about 3 before it began giving him problems. He shelved it and bought a new one, and recently offered it to me if I could get it running..but post 12 month warrenty and lack of startup/backup discs is giving me hell. Anyways, here's what it's doing, and what I've tried so far.
I used the Easy Transfer to move across from my old XP PC & now I cannot log into the laptop. Before transferring I had set up a password on the laptop, then after I used the Easy Transfer it was still asking for a password however it will not accept the password I set up on the laptop & there was never any password set up on the XP PC. So now I have a laptop I can't even get into.
