On my son's Dell laptop (Vista Home Premium, SP2) his battery indicator icon has disappeared off his taskbar. I'm sure there's a way to find it and have it show up in the lower right taskbar location but can't help him find it since my Vista system is a desktop. How locate and re-instate this feature?
View 8 Repliesi bought a hp pavilion about 6 months ago and ever since i have been experiencing battery problem, first i have 2 over heat, did the battery calibration thing it said the battery need to be changed, so i bought a new one. The new now after about 75% discharge it plug it in, battery indicator said it's plug in but it not charging. for me to charge the battery i have to shut the system down for a while and let the battery cool other wise it wont charge..have any one experience this problem before.

When I run the DXDIAG and 3D mark vantage they are indicating I only have 2.6gb ram,,,,,,,, I am assuming it is these programmes that are showing the wrong information is this correct

Indicator lost during a previous "fix" of an unrelated problem. HP states they can neither replace the file nor download the file contenets. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Epson Stylus C64 printer which I am able to use as normal (with ink levels and status monitor appearing) on my old computer with Windows XP.
My new laptop is Vista and although I have installed the Epson Stylus Printer Software that came with the printer onto the laptop, the Ink Indicator Levels and the Epson Status Monitor options showing in 'Printer Prefences' seem to be grayed-out/disabled. I am unable to gauge my ink levels so have no idea how much ink I have available and/or when to replace it. The actual printing seems to be fine at the moment but I am unable to tell when the ink requires replacing.
I have tried to re-install the Epson Printer software but nothing seems to change - the ink levels and status monitor contine to be disabled/grayed out. I noticed that when installing the software I am asked to disable any anti-virus software - I have Norton installed but have no idea how to uninstall it - my computer also seems to be automatically provided with something called McAfee Security - again I am unsure how to disable this and whether in fact I need to do this - it may be that the anti-virus programs are hindering the Epson software from fully loading? Any ideas and/or suggestions would be most welcome.
My HDD activity indicator lights up for 20 minutes and even mouse cursor freezes some times. This is because of uTorrent 1.8.3 and video conversion activity I guess. Will increasing of RAM from 2gb to 6gb help? Can I combine 2x1gb 800mhz installed modules with new 2x2gb 1066mhz modules? Page file is on G: HDD already, not C:. Windows Vista is x64.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a game issue with the new Iron Man game released last week by Sega. It's affecting a lot of the PC gamers, but no one has found a solution yet. Hopefully, someone in here has some ideas or a solution. Iron Man installed fine, but when we go to launch it, we get the same error box popping up, saying:
"Cannot locate the DVD-ROM"
"Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application"
Then there's the OK button at the bottom
There's only 1 DVD for this game and it has to be in the drive for the game to run. The game just refuses to run. I finally sat down this weekend and all day today, trying different things, like cycling between the different compatibility modes, updating DVD firmware, tweaking the game's INI files, and Googling every damn thing I can think of to see if there any other solutions or anyone who's solved this. Nothing works.
i realised that my 120 gb is missing when I`m under windows xp i see my missing hard but then again when i restart and put my pc under vista i dont seem the be able to locate my hard

How can I locate the file? It's not in the download folder. If I search for the file name nothing comes up (I sure miss the old search process). I need to copy this file and move it to a flash drive -- in order to move it to an older laptop that no longer has Internet access - but runs my embroidery sewing machine. But I can't find the file. This message appears every time Vista starts. We think it has to do with the installation of a HP printer--a Photosmart C4140 which is not fully supported by Vista and won't completely install because of that. The original problem gave this error along with a message that Vista had recovered from a serious error and then would shut down in 1 minute--which it did. Continuously.
I uninstalled the printer and all was well. Funny thing is, the computer and printer were working up until maybe 5 days ago. Perhaps installing only the basic printer drivers for the printer would make this go away? The user says he has no need for scanning, so maybe that solution would work. What we would really like to know is what on earth does the error message mean. What definitions file? What program options?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI aquired a Gateway GT5058 with a bad hard drive from my neighbor and I will note it had Win XP Media Center Edition installed. The bad hard drive was fully accessible from my Vista machine but the primary partition gives an "error to load operating system". Visible inspection of the hard drive shows a melted area so I am shocked the drive was able to be accessed since it will not boot in it's native machine. I had an old 40 gig drive laying around so I used a recovery disk from my Gateway laptop and low and behold it installed just fine and the machine is fully functional so I want to get another drive for it.
First problem is that the previous owner might be able to locate the system recovery software or he might not...I will probably know this in a few days. If he can locate it then I have no problems but I am preparing to have to restore this machine an alternative way which is what I need help with...........
The information needed to begin a new account is almost impossible to find....I can't locate the incoming or outgoing server to set up windows mail. You'd think that information would come with your new Windows Vista Home Premium when you purchase it on your computer, but it doesn't. Does anyone know how to solve this mystery? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been wanting to address this problem for some time now but I have always felt that it is going to be difficult to understand and solve. Maybe, maybe not. I just looked at some of the previous FAQs on this subject and I don't fully understand their fixes. One fix tells me to go to change the Indexing somehow by disabling it. But when I go there, that box is inactive and cannot be changed apparently. So before I go further and not know what I am doing, I decided to post and ask for help. To illustrate my problem, let's say I am trying to find a file in my Downloads folder. I open my Downloads folder and can see the file I want. Yet when I do a Search for that file, the Search cannot locate it. It is as if the file doesn't exist. But I am looking right at it in Downloads!
I don't yet know how deep this problem goes, i.e. what if my file I wanted was a .dll file or something deep in the computer and I couldn't find it? Is the fix to this problem simply to disable Indexing? Or is there something more sinister going on with Search not being able to find anything?
I cannot locate the command to type in at c: to restore hibernation.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows Home Premium 32bit. the capacity indicator show the "D" drive to have about 4GB free space out of 10GB. Yet, when I explore the drive, there is nothing there. I had previously been backing up to that drive but deleted those backup files. Yes, i have "view hidden files" turned on and still nothing except for a MediaID.bin file which consumes a whopping 1KB. Have no idea what is using 6GB of D drive space.

This has disabled the option to show the 'Power' meter in the taskbar. see pics below: i want the windows power meter back, but there is no uninstalling option in the battery bar file documents, or in add or remove programs. i have tried revo uninstaller (which also has no option to uninstall from main tab), tried hunter mode, pointed the target at the bar, and it says there is no uninstall program. I can't delete battery bar unless i recycle the battery bar file and its contents, which still leaves the windows power meter 'greyed' out.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i plug something in like my mouse for instance it does come up with new hardware found but cannot locate or install drivers, I have the instalation disk with the drivers and these ARE installed, also it was fine before, when I first purchased my mouse logitech MX Air I simply plugged it in and it recognised it and installed the drivers did'nt even need 3rd party software now it says "unknown device" and cannot find the drivers either from the disk or windows update, it is like this on every device even on simple things like usb hubs and memory sticks, it recomends that I download Hotfix KB940199 as this may resolve the problem but i get an error message pop up everytime saying this does not apply to your system (it is the x64 hotfix) argggh how frustrating PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP I cant use half the equiptment I have because of this problem,
