I have FRISR-Rescue so I'm typing this in my backup image and it has SP1 in it. I installed SP2 to my original and it has slowed my page loading to a crawl, especially Google. The image I'm in is working OK. After install I defraged the drive but didn't seem to help much. It just takes forever to load a page.
View 9 RepliesI always use vista complete backup (Disk Image) to backup both my hard disks, but I am a bit confused as to the restore options. Basically, I have a sneaky suspition that one of the drives is going to fail in the near future, so I backup quite regularly, but when I replace it, I want to get a bigger drive, as it's only a 150gig raptor, and I really would prefer a 500 or 1TB 7200rpm drive for storage.
Can vista restore the files I backed up on D: (the 150gig) to a new D: which would be a large disk ? If it can, could I also do the same for C: which is where vista is located? If that doesn't work,
I've been having this weird problem with my Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit system since I installed it. Pretty much, when I run cpu intensive programs like iTunes, the computer slows down significantly to the point where the mouse no longer moves smoothly (it jumps every so often). Furthermore, if iTunes is minimized while playing music and I maximize it, the music starts skipping and repeating itself for about a minute and then starts playing normally again. However, this only happens with a few programs, and I've run Prime95 (four instances to test an overclock) for 12 hours with no problems. During the torture test, my mouse moved fine and the cpu was at 100%. Furthermore, during the slowdown, my CPU is only at 25% usage and physical memory is at 30%. Any idea what could be causing this?
It also happens during the printing of a lightscribe label. While doing this, my cursor and the computer won't function properly until the label is finished printing, at which point it speeds up instantly. To give you an idea, when I pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL during the hangup, it took 23 seconds for the screen to change to the option menu compared to the usual time of less than a second.
This is for Windows 64bit.. I can't decide which one to get. I go to product reviews on a couple different sites and there seems to be somewhat of a divide with users saying to go with Ghost and vice versa. I have never used Ghost before. So I can't personally say anything on it from experience. As for True Image, I am 1 for 1 on it. I managed to restore an image without any problems on one computer, but had a corrupted backup image on the other. So I'm not sure what buy now.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a new PC with Vista Home Premium x64 and I would like to make reinstallation or recovery disks. The machine has a program to create recovery disks but that fails each time - the DVD writer is working OK as I have made a few other disks. I should really return it I suppose but I would rather avoid the hassle - the PC itself is working fine and I have moved my stuff over from my old machine. From reading the tutorials here I understand I can't make a complete backup image as its not the Ultimate/Business version.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am able to backup my C drive to my D drive with no problems. The problem I have is that I cannot restore my C drive from the D drive that I have it backed up on. I tried to do it from both the desktop, and from the original install CD, and also a rescue disk that I created. I keep getting an error message telling me to restart. Nothing works that I try. Do any of you know what the difference is between True Image 11 and TI 2009?

Two drivers, the C: driver as usual and a 'D:' driver also known as "HP_RECOVERY".
Now my question is very simple and basic yet I'm baffled not figuring out a way to do it.
Is it possible to clone the image of the OS I'm running currently to that D: drive? What software do I use to do that?
I will also need to mention that the drive size is ~8GB so it's very small. If there is a way to clone the current image to that drive, i will have to extend it and make it bigger, how would you do that also
I was thinking of getting a WD Raptor 150 gb hdd. I currently have my Vista x64 installed on my WD 500 gb hdd. If I purchase Acronis True Image 11, then can I just image my current setup and restore the image to the WD Raptor drive or would I need to install Vista from scratch? I'd then lke use my 500 gb hdd as data storage.

Apologies if I've overlooked it. Before sending my Sony for repair I created a system backup image on an external usb drive. When I start the Windows Recovery Environment and select 'Windows Complete Restore', it shows the name of the backup, the date it was created and the location where it is going to be restored to. Interestingly this shows a long, seemingly random number, followed by C: I can't change it. Immediately underneath there is an error message that reads: The Windows Recovery Environment needs to be loaded from a hard disk, but Windows needs to format that disk to restore your computer. Reboot from a CD or DVD and try the restore again. I did not get a Windows DVD with my computer. I do have a recovery DVD that I made when I got the computer but that doesn't seem

1. Backed up C: using Windows Complete PC Backup. (6 DVDs no errors.)
2. Removed old HD and inserted new.
3. Booted Windows Vista install DVD. (I proceeded to partition HD but did not complete the install.)
4. From Windows Recovery Environment, I chose Windows Complete PC Restore.
5. Inserted Backup image DVD disc1.
6. When it looked for the location of the image it couldn't find it so it fails.
My saga with Acromis True Image continues. I have successfully installed it on my fairly new Vista PC and found a way of creating and using a rescue disc by adjusting the bootup sequence of the drives. I now find that each time I try to do a backup to my Buffalo external HDD - reformatted to NTFS - I get the error message "Failed to execute the task - Error #1364 - A specified authentication package is unknown (0xFFF0)"
Acronis web support say I should edit the registry as a registry entry is missing in the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlLsa. This surprised me as my PC is not on a network. This is covered in You may not be able to connect to a remote server, the Workstation service may stop, and you may receive an "Error 1364" error message in Windows Server 2003 or in Windows Small Business Server 2003........
My sister just got a new computer with Vista Home Premium. I was wondering if I can create an image of her old computer (running XP) and use that image on her new one? Or are there to many incompatibilities between the two OS's for this to work? If this will work, it would save a bunch of time transfering files and settings.

however, I cannot locate the starting point which I was told is under the 'system and maintenance' heading in Control Panel. in my control panel there is no such system and maintenance setting.
I have Vista Ultimate installed on one of three HD partitions of my laptop. I want to merge the partitions into 1 partition.
For this purpose, I will use the Complete PC Backup utility, delete the existing partitions, create a single partition, and restore the computer image created earlier.
Would this be the correct procedure, or the utility is going to recreate the three partitions and my work would be useless?

When I plug the key into my laptop, Vista 64 slows down noticeably. The light on the key keeps flashing and no matter what window I'm in, the spinning busy disc by the mouse pointer keeps going like the Ever Ready bunny. Task Manager shows the CPU hustling towards 100%.
At first I thought it was the indexing, but after disabling windows search and rebooting, he problem is still there?
When I am downloading my CPU is at 100% and as a result my computer slows down. I have AVG installed and have scanned my computer and have found no viruses or spyware. I have checked the task manager and there is a process called System - NT Kernal & System and it runs at 70% when downloading - surely this isnt normal.
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust finished my new build, and the computer has had a 'bottleneck' or 'hiccup' every -10 seconds since i booted it, the windows splash screen has a 'hiccup' at the windows light logo. Everything(word processing, web surfing, gaming, watching a video) is affected by this and I am wondering how to solve this problem. I have tried to update all of the drivers, I flashed the BIOS. I am going to try to troubleshoot this for another week or so and then try to reinstall windows. My windows experience index is 5.9 across the board.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Home Premium n an HP laptop and up until yesterday everything was just fine. I also have SP1 and that went well. Yesterday, the system kept freezing or operating extremely slow and for the life of me I had no clue of what was going on. I had to press and hold the power button to shut down so I could reboot. I could not open Control Panel at all - the hour glass just kept swirling but nothing else would happen. After the reboot the system displayed the same behavior and at this point I noticed that it wasn't really locked up but in fact operating so slow that it appeared that way.
After no luck with the obvious I checked the startup group - nothing there, I cleared out the temp folders and files which seemed to help. I decided to simply use a system restore to a previous state of a few days ago. The first time I did this, I got a message that Windows was NOT successful with the restore. I tried an earlier restore point and got the same notification that the restore was NOT successful but it appeared that it was. A program I installed after that particular restore point was gone and the system seemed to be better -
I have a Asus pro80 series laptop with Vista 32 bit. I connect using the ethernet Lan. Uptil about one month ago averything was fine. Since then my Connection after about 10 to 20 minutes slows right down until it stops. It dosn't actually disconnect from my provider. it just stops. If I dis-connect and re-connect then it will work again for a while. Then stops.
What I have tried so far: Updated the drivers for the realtek ethernet. Reinstalled Vista Installed the vista service pack 1 Checked power settings for the ethernet card. Other info: I know that the connection its self is ok as i use the same cable for my works laptop without any problem. Hardware manager says all is running correctly Changing user has no impact.
My daughter purchased a Dell PC that has Vista 64 bit loaded. We didn't realize it was the 64 bit version until recently. Her problem is with IE. She has broadband access, but as soon as she drills down more than two levels, her browser slows right down. For some reason, it worked well and fast for about a month, but she recently rebooted her PC and it's s-l-o-w again. Has any else experienced this problem? Is there any way or reason to go to the 32 bit version of Vista?

I have a feeling this may be a virus I have always been very careful with what I do on the tinterweb and generally look after the computer as best I can. I have been using Windows Defender firewall and AVG antivirus and spyware.
I downloaded a file last night, placed it inside My Documents> Downloads. I now have reason the believe its a virus. All in all the computer runs like a dream, but since downloading this file, whenever I go into my Documents, my CPU speed jumps up to around 50% and stays there, then If I go into my Downloads file within my documents, my CPU speed shoots up to 100% and hangs there until the computer is restarted? The file that was downloaded is the only file within the Downloads file. I'm 99.9% sure that whatever it is, its causing this problem. If for example I just turn the machine on and dont access my Docs, it runs fine and only slows down when my Documents is accessed. The file that was downloaded is 10mb's, whenever I try to delete it, the dialog just comes up saying calculating time remaining and doesnt budge. I have scanned my docuemnts and no virus was detected by AVG, I just want to get rid of this file but dont know how!
I am having an issue with this device, here is what is happening. When i have this 'enabled' it takes my machine about 6-8 minutes to boot up, so I found that if I 'disable' the device everything runs as normal and the laptop boots up in seconds but then I cannot use the Micro SD slot as it is disabled.

When I went to do a complete PC restore I am told form the Help info on VISTA Ultimate to restart my computer, push F8 and choose the 'repair' option to run the restore. WHen I do this I get the safe mode options, debugging mode etc etc but there is no 'repair' mode. How do I get to the repair mode??
