Running Multiple Versions Of Firefox
Jul 30, 2008I have both Minefield 64-bit and regular Firefox installed but whenever I run Minefield, Firefox always appears. I suspect its something to do with profiles but not sure.

Firefox.exe Still Running Not Responding
Jan 11, 2010FF updated the other day to 3.5.7 and now the .exe process is still running after closing, this message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system", is continualy giving me grief when i close FF and then try to reopen it soon after, i have tried every trick in the book to sort it, all thats left is to uninstall and re-install and i don't really want ot do that, and i definitely don't want to start IEing again ! Having to stop the process all the time is really annoying ! If you have or had the same problem and have fixed it could you tell me how you done it please, Bearing in mind i have tried all the usual tricks like addons and so on if you know what i mean ! it only seems to happen if i open other tabs, if i just do all my browsing and searching through one tab it dosen't seem to ! Also have just done full uninstall and reinstall this morning and it hasn't solved it, even done a chkdsk yesterday

Aug 13, 2009I just got a vista computer yesterday. the people I had gotten it from said they installed a 64 bit system and 32 bit is what is reads on the system is 32 bit. what my question is. is the product key that is on the computer for a 64 bit or a 32 bit. and since a32 bit system was installed. if it should ever have to be reformatede, could it be done with the disk they gave me or does it have to be a 32 bit?

Jun 21, 2009I was having problems with my pc freezing. Took it in for a diognostic and everything came back fine. They said it was a Vista problem.
So, I reinstalled the operating system disk and put windows back on the PC.
Now when I turn on my PC I get the Windows Boot Manager screen asking to choose operationg system to star with two versions of Vista to choose from. The first on the list is the rebooted (new) version. If I click on the second one, it is my old version with all my old files and programs.
Funny thing is, I am not having any issues with the old version any more.(YET)
Is there anyway to get rid of the rebooted (new) version windows so I can stop getting the windows boot manager whenever I start the PC? I rather keep using the version with all my old programs and files since it seems to be fine.

Skirmish With .NET Framework Versions 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 Following Update To SP1

If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. The detailed report is appended. It will be seen that .NETFrameworkv2.0 is involved. When I skip the message the program runs but a similar warning (not shown here) is repeated with nothing achieved.
This incident follows a skirmish fought on my system between .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 3.0 following the installation of Nero 9.0.9.4 and Nuance OmniPage 17 during which I ended up with both .NET 3.5 and 3.0 installed, as neither package would install with 3.5 alone. I am wondering whether I now also need to install .NET Framework 2.0. Ideally I suppose I am seeking a .NET environment that will cope with everything that is thrown at it. Is it OK to have multiple versions of .NET installed concurrently? Perhaps I should just backup and then edit the icon overlay? Where would that be? (I have icon editor IcoFX 1.6.4)......
Windows Update Sp Non Ultimate Versions
Mar 27, 2008I have automatic updates active (installation at night), but have not seen SP1 listed as an update on my computer or on "Windows Update". Is the service pack only for non-ultimate versions at this time? Or is there something I have to do? Or is Microsoft rolling out this a chunk at a time?

Hmmmm I wonder if this is one of those things like ShadowExplorer where the facility is there but not accessible without a utility? I say that because I notice on Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 gpedit.dll is there, just not the .msc applet. Anyone know if a util is there to access it or if it's even useful on Home Premium? I'm thinking the guy who did ShadowExplorer took it upon himself to get at the goodies even though they weren't supposed to work in lesser versions. I just don't know that much about group policy stuff to know if it's generally all that useful.
(just wondering if the gpedit.dll is there for a reason other than inertia)

Downloaded Trial Versions: Unknown Publisher
May 1, 2010My full version of AVG just ran out a few days ago so i'm looking for a new antivirus program. I've downloaded trial versions of different scanners but I always get the same error message when iI try and install the program. "unknown publisher" Vista will not let me install antivirus software or any service packs.
Vista 32bit home edition OS - Internet Explorer. Pages don't load completely, runs very slow. I know a little about computers, I guess an average user.

SP1 Fails To Install: Automatic And Manual Download Versions Of SP1
Jun 11, 2008SP1 went through the full install routine, but when it reaches the end of Stage 3, I get a message saying that SP1 failed to install and it then goes through a lengthy process to revert to the computer's previous state. There is no detailed error message telling me why it failed to install. I've tried both the automatic and manual download versions of SP1. I've also tried it with all of my virus and internet security turned off. I still get the same message. how I can get SP1 to install.

When I right-click a file or folder (with frequent changes over time) in Windows Explorer, I can't find anything labelled "Restore Previous Versions".
I have "Show hidden files and folders" checked and "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked in Folder Options, and I opened Windows Explorer using "Run as Administrator". How do I get to see the "Restore Previous Versions" menu item?

Is The Vista Ultimate User Account Passwords Located In A Different Place As Compared To Other Versions Of Vista
May 27, 2010A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions
1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?
2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?

Sep 3, 2009I use the latest version of Firefox. I will get a message saying that I'm in unsecure mode, and the way to fix it is to install a program from Microsoft (attached is a screenshot). However, even though it says that it's from Microsoft, if I double click it, it says it's from an unknown publisher.... what gives? And if I keep running the stupid AV and spyware bull, then why does this keep happening?

Aug 17, 2007I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 OEM without any issues, until now.
Yesterday my computer was running just fine, but now, all of the sudden, it seems like it doesnt want to cooperate.
Here's a small list of thumbnails to make telling my story a whole lot easier:
1) On startup - nothing appears out of the ordinary..
2) Starting firefox results in nothing but a blank page.
3) Closing firefox results in error.
4) Opening up Binary Newsreader = errors.
5) Closing Binary Newsreader = more errors.
6) Opening FTP app results in similar errors.

Kill the process or reboot. Upon investigation in the Task Manager, Firefox is not running as an application or process?

Dec 23, 2008I just got vista 64bit and Mozilla Firefox keeps crashing on me.
I've heard there are some compatibility issues with Firefox and 64bit windows.
Is there a patch out, a windows tweak or an alternate version of Firefox out to solve this issue?
Another application I'm having trouble installing is Flash CS4, It keeps preparing the install files to a temp folder and then tells me that it needs to close and to check the destination drives disk space/ write protection settings.
(note the destination drive has over 400gb left on it!)

Feb 25, 2009ok so i use vista home premium, have firefox installed. I cannot download anything using firefox or IE. whenever i do try to download the download window comes up and downloads all the way. I do not use desktop as the place where files are placed so it doesnt get cluttered, but it is in a folder on the desktop.
When it is done downloading there is nothing in the folder. It will be there while downloading ( and i can do anything with it), but when the download finishes the file dissapears and is unable to be found anywhere. It is not hidden or anything. I've done full advanced computer searches and the file cannot be found. I have AVG, but it is disabled.
I am in a few college classes and another problem that i am having is that when i try to take my homework off the site (usually in a .zip or .doc format), i have an error that comes up saying Cannot open C:UsersRyan'sAppdataLocalTempStudentDownload.zip (or .doc) this is a HUGE!!!problem as i cannot afford to run back and forth to the college everyday trying to get my homework done.

Apr 1, 2010Every time an update comes out for FF 3.6, even though I have Firefox unchecked in the Update settings, it will ask me to update. Not just on startup, but just any old time. It's gettin' old fast!
