Licensing Would Not Allow Me To Activate Both The X32 And X64 Versions
Sep 2, 2008
So I just upgraded from Windows XP to Vista x64. Since I got the retail packaged upgrade, I have both the x64 and x32 DVDs. I think I know the answer already, but, I take it that licensing would not allow me to activate both the x32 and x64 versions on the same PC, or seperate PCs for that matter?

I have some questions, for which I haven't found answer in Microsoft FAQ's:
Firstly, according to this thread I would like to ask, if all those information are also true about Vista Home Basic? Can I do my development commercial work with this system?
Another question:

It would not be fair... Aren't my children allowed to play computer games?
I would like to ask one more question about licensing:
Can I use Windows XP from MSDNAA at Virtual Machine?

I recently just purchased a new Dell XPS M1730 laptop - it should be delivered in the next week or so. Apparently dell doesn't sell 64bit Windows - so I'm getting 32bit Ultimate from them. I have a 64bit ultimate DVD that I've used on my current desktop system - but was wondering if the key from the 32bit install is 64bit compliant? Or if I just got charged from Dell the extra cash for an OS I will never use if I buy my own 64bit vista OS? Anyone know if the 32bit CALs from Dell are 64bit compliant? I'd like to order whatever I need to have it in time for the laptops arrival.

my Software Licensing service will not start because I keep getting access denied error messages, and as some people might know, this means windows won't can't be verified and it runs in limited functionality. I've run it in administrator and it will let me start, but as soon as I log off (which I need to do to get out of the reduced functionality), I get the access denied message again. how to get it to start and stay started?

I was having problems with my pc freezing. Took it in for a diognostic and everything came back fine. They said it was a Vista problem.
So, I reinstalled the operating system disk and put windows back on the PC.
Now when I turn on my PC I get the Windows Boot Manager screen asking to choose operationg system to star with two versions of Vista to choose from. The first on the list is the rebooted (new) version. If I click on the second one, it is my old version with all my old files and programs.
Funny thing is, I am not having any issues with the old version any more.(YET)
Is there anyway to get rid of the rebooted (new) version windows so I can stop getting the windows boot manager whenever I start the PC? I rather keep using the version with all my old programs and files since it seems to be fine.

Unhandled exception error has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. The detailed report is appended. It will be seen that .NETFrameworkv2.0 is involved. When I skip the message the program runs but a similar warning (not shown here) is repeated with nothing achieved.
This incident follows a skirmish fought on my system between .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 3.0 following the installation of Nero 9.0.9.4 and Nuance OmniPage 17 during which I ended up with both .NET 3.5 and 3.0 installed, as neither package would install with 3.5 alone. I am wondering whether I now also need to install .NET Framework 2.0. Ideally I suppose I am seeking a .NET environment that will cope with everything that is thrown at it. Is it OK to have multiple versions of .NET installed concurrently? Perhaps I should just backup and then edit the icon overlay? Where would that be? (I have icon editor IcoFX 1.6.4)......

I have automatic updates active (installation at night), but have not seen SP1 listed as an update on my computer or on "Windows Update". Is the service pack only for non-ultimate versions at this time? Or is there something I have to do? Or is Microsoft rolling out this a chunk at a time?

Group policy editor dll is there, but not gpedit.msc on Vista Hom Premium 64 bit
Hmmmm I wonder if this is one of those things like ShadowExplorer where the facility is there but not accessible without a utility? I say that because I notice on Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 gpedit.dll is there, just not the .msc applet. Anyone know if a util is there to access it or if it's even useful on Home Premium? I'm thinking the guy who did ShadowExplorer took it upon himself to get at the goodies even though they weren't supposed to work in lesser versions. I just don't know that much about group policy stuff to know if it's generally all that useful.
(just wondering if the gpedit.dll is there for a reason other than inertia)

All free stuff (not necessarily 64-bit, but I have found them flawless with vista x64 and I'm sure most of you probably know these already)
- "Transparent" Tools -
- Desktop Icon Position/Restore (32-bit and 64-bit versions) Restore your icon layout after updating your display driver, etc.
- ClipBoardPath (32-Bit) As far as I'm concerned, this is much better than the default in vista. I use a lot of design programs and I need the file paths from inside viewers such as acdsee and this desplays nicely, whereas the default vista one can't be accessed.......

As said I am strictly Windows.' But if I play with Linux, it's NovellSUSE Not Debian-based Ubuntu, which is funded, di doyu know? By Mark Shuttleworth, remember S.A. entrepreneur whos epaid for a SpaceShuttle trip and changed hi slastname? He makes money on Extended TechSupport for Ubuntu, no tmuch money but Ubuntu is not entirely free, problem it creates pitiful amount of jobs & is as inferior to Windows, as free healthcare would be to commercial. Nothing good is free in this world, except natural commodities like air, and even that is a limited & increasingly polluted resources
Nothing sux more than something you don't pay for, when you grow up & realize you spent years on playing with Hobbyist Operating System. Again if I play with it, it's SUSE. SUSE is simply closer to commercial quality, yes you will say Novell is in bed with Microsoft. So WHAT??? In fact it's a good sign.

SP1 went through the full install routine, but when it reaches the end of Stage 3, I get a message saying that SP1 failed to install and it then goes through a lengthy process to revert to the computer's previous state. There is no detailed error message telling me why it failed to install. I've tried both the automatic and manual download versions of SP1. I've also tried it with all of my virus and internet security turned off. I still get the same message. how I can get SP1 to install.

In Windows Vista Inside Out chapter 7 section "Restoring Files and Folders with Previous Versions" it states, "To see what previous versions are available for a file or folder, right-click the item in Windows Explorer and choose Restore Previous Versions." When I right-click a file or folder (with frequent changes over time) in Windows Explorer, I can't find anything labelled "Restore Previous Versions".
I have "Show hidden files and folders" checked and "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked in Folder Options, and I opened Windows Explorer using "Run as Administrator". How do I get to see the "Restore Previous Versions" menu item?

For all you 680i users running Vista 32bit AND successfully using sleep mode, please post your settings here... "Successfully" means that:
1. Your system actually wakes up and none of your devices, such as mouse, keyboard, usb drives, bluetooth, and other devices, etc. are disconnected and/or malfunctioning...
2. In particular, are you still connected to the internet without resetting
your network adapter (presuming you were connected before bedtime and
presuming you're using the on-board NIC)
post your chipset driver versions and sleep mode settings... My settings are listed below and my system WON'T SLEEP "successfully"... bluetooth mouse and keyboard crash, and my internet connection is trashed:.....

A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions
1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?
2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?

Alright I bought a Toshiba Satellite A100/A105 Laptop. Well when I bought it, I tryed to get Windows onto my Laptop and did. But then I had to Defrag my whole Computer and the little sticker that was on the bottom of my Laptop with the Windows Info came off and then my Mother cleaned my room and she threw away the sticker. So I could not Activate windows.
1. is there a way to Activate windows without the Product Key? I have the Receipt when I bought the Laptop, and the box it came in and all the papers as well.
or
2. Get a new Product key without spending another $100 USD For Windows Again.

I had to reinstall Vista due to malware that I could not get off my computer. I could not do a repair, and now Vista is new on my system. The problem is that I now cannot activate it, and I get a notice that says that I need to enter a new number. I do not think that I need to, but I don't know how to reactivate. I called Microsoft, but the person (honestly) hung up on me.
