i dont know if this goes hear,but ill post it anyways,i uninstalled a program and went to uninstall another and my program and features looked like this it has the same file(but with the differnt language to it) also it takes forever to load.
View 8 RepliesJust did a clean install of VISTA Home Premium SP2 including all MS updates on an AMD dual core, 3GB RAM, 250GB HP. Also installed MS Office 2007 and a few other mainstream apps.
Tried using built-in disk defragmenter but gave up after 10-12 hours. Tried running from the command line with a few switches - and gave up after 8 hours. Running defraggler right now. Got to 50% in first 2.5 hours. At 74% after an additional 11 hours - just hit 75%. I think it took 2-3 hours to go from 74-75. It's still flipping through the files but doesn't seem to be progressing. Defraggler shows "8 fragmented files (22GB); 43 total fragments; 22% fragmentation." I guess I'll let it run through the night.
How long should it take to defrag a clean install of VISTA? On XP, a long defrag might be an hour or so. I'm so frustrated.
When I click System Restore it takes nearly 40 seconds top open.
Sometimes longer than that. When my patients runs out and I clisk it again I get a message telling me it's already open. Where, I have no idea.
I'm running Vista Home Premium and have just installed a Canon LBP5000 Colour Laser. It works okay but printing anything takes forever... A colour picture can take up to 5mins to print and a simple paragraph in black on a single sheet will take 2 to 3 minutes. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling the printer
software/drives but no difference. This printer was on an XP machine and when printing from that it was as good as gold. I tried sharing it off the XP machine to the Vista machine but got the same result... slow as a wet week! Has anybody got any ideas? The way things stand the Canon is virtually unusable.
Vista Ultimate x64, Vista Business x64, and Vista Home x64, all have this issue:
Diablo II takes literally 5 min to load. We thought that for certain that the game just wasn't going to work under Vista x64, and I was ready to give up on it... but then one of the machines just popped to life.
Since then, I've been running it by starting it... and then literally go for a soda or a beer in order to pass the 5 mins it takes for anything to happen.
I can see in the task manager that game.exe*32 is running... at 0% cpu... for a long, long time. No activity that is measurable by task manager. Then, eventually, the screen goes black and the intro begins running.
Once that happens, Diablo II appears to be fine (there are some issues with it failing to fully initialize or restore the graphics pallete when I alt-tab away, but that seems to self-fix when I alt-tab a second time).
It says it has been disabled by the administrator. I am logged onto an account with admin privileges. How can I enable these features and others that seem to be disabled. I have Home Premium 32bit. The computer is running sluggishly and I am trying to remove programs that may be viruses or that are just taking up space.

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just built a computer this night, and when i booted it up, it ran smooth for about 10 minutes. i just remember getting comfortable then looking up and the screen was black. i left it alone for a minute but eventually reset it. now it ALWAYS takes me to the "Windows failed to boot..." blah blah you know start windows normal, safe mode, etc. i have tried all those, but it always loads for a minute and then says something about not loading the "hive" file and dumping physical memory. but the screen flashes so fast i cant read it. then it reboots and does the whole thing over and over.

Suddenly there was a Word document that didn't want deleting. I have found it again using Recuva but it tells me that it isn't recoverable as the file has been written over. Is there anyway of recovering a file that has been deleted and that space written over again but the file name is still available during a search using recovery tools?

To enter to the user i use the task bar (i ctrl alt delet) then i nw task the explorer. This started happing after I was virused. i was able of removing the virus but i can't fix my computer. I think maybe on of the seeting was deleted from the system 32. I tried a lot of stuff but i counldn't fix th problem. I even tried creating a bat file that starts the explorer everytime but i failled, cause it will start when the account starts not before.

Last night on the windows folder I changed ownership from trusted installer to my username for I could delete a file in (Downloaded Program Files). But after I changed the ownership of the folder back to trusted installer some of my programs (iTunes, Adobe Reader, Dell Dock, Microsoft Works, Modem Diagnostic, Windows Live Messenger, etc) changed to (.ink file). I can't even do restore point. I tried the File association fixes in File association fixes for Windows Vista but it did not work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've cocked up and forgot to untick the box "always use" when I was viewing a file with notepad. Now there seems to be no way of removing that file association (like setting it to unknown application) Notepad doesn't come up in the default programs for some reason, and I assume it has to be registered for that to happen. I don't know why it's not registered by default since it's, to my knowledge, been a default windows program since forever. So, does anyone know what registry key you would alter to remove the file association that Vista Ultimate x64 wont let me remove by normal means.

When I delete something from the recycle bin it is gone forever. -THINK AGAIN- I deleted somthing from the recycle bin and got it back a few days later...I also found a ton so stuff I was told was "deleted" forever by Windows. I brought it back (using some uber-simple free program) just to see it it was really there (not just a file name) I was able to open it and read it as well as continue to edit it... This is PROBLEMATIC; some of these files contain sensitive data such as SSNs', medical info, and other stuff that I had believed to be "deleted" and wasn't. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!

I get the screen that says "Windows is loading files", and then I get the screen with the loading bar at the bottom (the one that looks a bit like the standard Windows XP loading bar) and then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I've tried leaving it for a good half hour, still to no avail.
