I installed CoD 4 on steam on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit version and when I click to start the game, it says ""Preparing to launch Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare..." and it stays there FOREVER until I click "cancel."

Since I have played them all, it seems I am bound to get this one. I was hoping we wouldn't have another WWII title but, what the heck, I am willing to give it a try since there is nothing else out there that interest me right now.
I don't play online but I am hoping a friend of mine will have interest and we can start doing Co-op missions together, this will be the beginning of my Online Experience (if Co-Op can be called Online! ).
I have Vista X64 on a Gateway FX system with an nvidia 8800 series video card. It will not play MOH Airborne or the new Call Of Duty. It usually gets just past the first video run and then freezes with repeating sound and the picture freezes with squiggly horizontal lines covering the entire monitor over the screen shot. It's not a lock up I have ever seen before and with Windows, unfortunately I've seen too many. I have tried all the usual fixes, patches, lowest settings etc. I have the newest nvidia drivers. Could it be the Realtek on board audio? Its supposed to be HD Audio. Tried to get their newest drivers, most of the download sites I've tried haven't worked.

When I tried to uninstall them, the normal Installshield window popped up, but when it arrived here: the window simply closed and the program was still installed??
I have three computers, 1 old machine running XPSP3, 1 New machine running Vista Unltimate and One Notebook running vista ultimate (Wireless Connection).
Prob 1. I have a shared printer connected to the XP desktop and can access it from the Vista notebook but not from the Vista Desktop.
Prob 2. I can not get Call of Duty WaW to connect by LAN With the Vista Desktop and it does not attract other players when hosting a public game. When using the Vista notebook I can play LAN with the XP Desktop and the Vista Notebook.
The problem seems to be with the Vista Desktop, something i can't see. The Xp Desktop and Vista Desktop are connected through a Belkin Wireless G Router ver 6002. File Sharing and network discovery are turned on, on both vista machines. The call of duty games are all patched to the same and latest version.
how i can get the sound back on ingame? The problem only conserns Call Of Duty: World at war. Menu message states: To change speaker config you need to change the default playback device in your windows sound settings, and restart the game.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a NVIDIA 9500GT with a VGA (blue cable) monitor. When I play Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer, I'll be playing for around 10-45 minutes, and the game will freeze. The pixels on my monitor will go a strange green, purple and other colours. After that, I'll have to manually push the reset button to reboot the computer. Also, with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, sometimes (after around 15-20 minutes of playing) I'll fast travel, or open a door (ie load another area) and it will load. After the load screen is over, the game will freeze and get the strange pixels like above......

E.g : new game, multiplayer, options, it's not there. I never had problems with it on this pc when it still had XP. tried reinstalling vista, same problem. can't go back to XP, because my internet needs to be reconfigured for it
Since i got my vixtax64 machine i haven't been able to get Wolfenstein 3D to run Or call if Duty 2. There is no error message for Wolf 3D but for Call of Duty 2 it complains about something with the DirectX.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am playing CoD4 and I am experiencing some problems with mods and files... When I installed CoD4 I let it install as default. In the program files, Activision, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Directly after the install I downloaded Patch 1.6 and 1.6-1.7 After that I went to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare folder so that I could add my custom maps. But the folders I am looking for are missing. The folders located in my CoD4 MW folder are: Docs, Main, Miles, Mods, pb, Zone. Then there are 2 folders missing: players and usermaps. My game runs fine, but I cant do anything more... I have all my ranks, but I cant find my players folder. I did a search throughout my pc, for the names of those folders but couldnt find anything... I reinstalled CoD4 twice...

View 8 Replies View RelatedTo start I bought my desktop machine very recently. Specs: Q8200 Quad Core, 8GB DDR3 Ram, 1 TB HD, ATI Radeon HD 4650 and I am booting a dual monitor system (2x 24 inch LG monitors).
So, these games when played will work perfectly for about 5 minutes and then there are beginnings of sound stutter and then video and sound stutter eventually rendering the game useless to play. After I quit the game, my entire desktop is slow and lagging (eg. selection tool on desktop lags as well as mouse movements). This lag dissappears after about 10 minutes (or doing a full restart). I have looked at many different forums about this and I have done the following (for others that may be having the same problems)
1. Updated directX (there is a forum post about this already)
2. Ran in compatability mode
3. Re-imaged drive
4. installed vista codecs
5. Update to SP1 (came installed for me)
6. Updated BIOS
7. Re-installed/updated video driver
8. Turned down graphics on games
9. Disabled HD Audio (re-enabled because it did not help my problem)
10. Installed and used ATI Catalyst Suite
I have a Dell insperon 530S. I think its time for a factory re-install. I am confused about how to save all my doc's, music, pix, etc before I do this. The kids use I-tunes, I have folders of music in different formats ( I think), we have Kodak and Olympus picture folders, old email in two different identities, and on and on. Is there a step-by-step on how to do this correctly, so I don't lose stuff and I am able to find and save everything I need? I'm figuring I will burn everything to a DVD or two, but I don't know....

The vulnerability lies within a component in Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Server 2008 and Windows Vista.
Microsoft offered little more on the nature of the vulnerability. The company typically refrains from disclosing specific details on a flaw until a fix can be released.The November update comes just two weeks after the disclosure and patching of another critical vulnerability in a Windows component. I need to run some very special old game programs in a compatible gwbasic modern Vista home premium labtop. It would be ashame for these funny and entertaining programs to be lost for ever. The book is called computer monsters by Stephen Manes and Paul Somerson. By scholastic inc I typed one of the books program on a cd a person instaled the old GWbasic and I was sad to see it wouldn't run. It was frooze completely. I beleave these book game authors are out of buisness. Where do I go from here?
View 7 Replies View RelatedTwo nights ago when i started my computer up and typed in my password instead of the screen just putting up 'Welcome', it changed to 'Preparing Your Desktop'. After this it took about 3 minutes for my desktop to load, which is almost double the amount of time. When the desktop finally opens, a bubble pops up telling me that my user profile was not correctly loaded, and a temporary one has been loaded in its place.
At first i thought it might have just become corrupt and i could start a new profile. But none of the changes stick to this temporary file or any new user name i create. Frustrating that i have to upload my itunes library everytime i want to listen to music. So i had a friend of mine try to help me, and he had me checking a file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList
Under here i tried to ensure that the key name did not end in .bad (but it does end in .bak), The ref count was at 1 which i changed to 0, and the state count was already at 0. None of this did anything... and really i don't know enough about computers to really comprehend what he has me doing here.
I'm running Vista on aHP laptop and it takes forever to boot up. I don't know of anything that is installed that would slow it down so much. I do have Nortons and a wireless mouse and keyboard. Can anyone tell me what to look for that might speed up the boot time? I know it's a lot slower that when I got the laptop a year ago.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust did a clean install of VISTA Home Premium SP2 including all MS updates on an AMD dual core, 3GB RAM, 250GB HP. Also installed MS Office 2007 and a few other mainstream apps.
Tried using built-in disk defragmenter but gave up after 10-12 hours. Tried running from the command line with a few switches - and gave up after 8 hours. Running defraggler right now. Got to 50% in first 2.5 hours. At 74% after an additional 11 hours - just hit 75%. I think it took 2-3 hours to go from 74-75. It's still flipping through the files but doesn't seem to be progressing. Defraggler shows "8 fragmented files (22GB); 43 total fragments; 22% fragmentation." I guess I'll let it run through the night.
How long should it take to defrag a clean install of VISTA? On XP, a long defrag might be an hour or so. I'm so frustrated.
so when I delete something it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete something from the recycle bin it is gone forever. -THINK AGAIN- I deleted somthing from the recycle bin and got it back a few days later...I also found a ton so stuff I was told was "deleted" forever by Windows. I brought it back (using some uber-simple free program) just to see it it was really there (not just a file name) I was able to open it and read it as well as continue to edit it... This is PROBLEMATIC; some of these files contain sensitive data such as SSNs', medical info, and other stuff that I had believed to be "deleted" and wasn't. Sometimes longer than that. When my patients runs out and I clisk it again I get a message telling me it's already open. Where, I have no idea.
I reboot the computer, boot from DVD.
I get the screen that says "Windows is loading files", and then I get the screen with the loading bar at the bottom (the one that looks a bit like the standard Windows XP loading bar) and then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I've tried leaving it for a good half hour, still to no avail.
I'm running Vista Home Premium and have just installed a Canon LBP5000 Colour Laser. It works okay but printing anything takes forever... A colour picture can take up to 5mins to print and a simple paragraph in black on a single sheet will take 2 to 3 minutes. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling the printer
software/drives but no difference. This printer was on an XP machine and when printing from that it was as good as gold. I tried sharing it off the XP machine to the Vista machine but got the same result... slow as a wet week! Has anybody got any ideas? The way things stand the Canon is virtually unusable.
i dont know if this goes hear,but ill post it anyways,i uninstalled a program and went to uninstall another and my program and features looked like this it has the same file(but with the differnt language to it) also it takes forever to load.

I load call of duty and it loads but will not run and says their is a missing dll file. from direct x. Obviously Windows vista 64 has direct x 10, and COD4 runs from Direct x 9. When I go to install direct x 9 it says that I cannot install due to another application of direct x running.
