Networking: Can Not Get Call Of Duty WaW To Connect
Feb 23, 2009
I have three computers, 1 old machine running XPSP3, 1 New machine running Vista Unltimate and One Notebook running vista ultimate (Wireless Connection).
Prob 1. I have a shared printer connected to the XP desktop and can access it from the Vista notebook but not from the Vista Desktop.
Prob 2. I can not get Call of Duty WaW to connect by LAN With the Vista Desktop and it does not attract other players when hosting a public game. When using the Vista notebook I can play LAN with the XP Desktop and the Vista Notebook.
The problem seems to be with the Vista Desktop, something i can't see. The Xp Desktop and Vista Desktop are connected through a Belkin Wireless G Router ver 6002. File Sharing and network discovery are turned on, on both vista machines. The call of duty games are all patched to the same and latest version.
Since I have played them all, it seems I am bound to get this one. I was hoping we wouldn't have another WWII title but, what the heck, I am willing to give it a try since there is nothing else out there that interest me right now.
I don't play online but I am hoping a friend of mine will have interest and we can start doing Co-op missions together, this will be the beginning of my Online Experience (if Co-Op can be called Online! ).
I have Vista X64 on a Gateway FX system with an nvidia 8800 series video card. It will not play MOH Airborne or the new Call Of Duty. It usually gets just past the first video run and then freezes with repeating sound and the picture freezes with squiggly horizontal lines covering the entire monitor over the screen shot. It's not a lock up I have ever seen before and with Windows, unfortunately I've seen too many. I have tried all the usual fixes, patches, lowest settings etc. I have the newest nvidia drivers. Could it be the Realtek on board audio? Its supposed to be HD Audio. Tried to get their newest drivers, most of the download sites I've tried haven't worked.
I can't play Call of Duty 2 because I am unable to download flash player so I wanted to uninstall it as well as iTunes. When I tried to uninstall them, the normal Installshield window popped up, but when it arrived here: the window simply closed and the program was still installed??
how i can get the sound back on ingame? The problem only conserns Call Of Duty: World at war. Menu message states: To change speaker config you need to change the default playback device in your windows sound settings, and restart the game.
I'm using a NVIDIA 9500GT with a VGA (blue cable) monitor. When I play Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer, I'll be playing for around 10-45 minutes, and the game will freeze. The pixels on my monitor will go a strange green, purple and other colours. After that, I'll have to manually push the reset button to reboot the computer. Also, with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, sometimes (after around 15-20 minutes of playing) I'll fast travel, or open a door (ie load another area) and it will load. After the load screen is over, the game will freeze and get the strange pixels like above......
i'm a huge call of duty fan. but whenever i install Call of Duty 1 or it's expansion pack it shows no problem. but when I start it up, there is no text E.g : new game, multiplayer, options, it's not there. I never had problems with it on this pc when it still had XP. tried reinstalling vista, same problem. can't go back to XP, because my internet needs to be reconfigured for it
Since i got my vixtax64 machine i haven't been able to get Wolfenstein 3D to run Or call if Duty 2. There is no error message for Wolf 3D but for Call of Duty 2 it complains about something with the DirectX.
i just want to know if it'll be possible for me to play Call of Duty 1 on my vista system. I heard that I can but I just want to know before I buy it. Also, I want to try myst but i'm pretty sure that's not gonna work.
i have a problem my call of duty dont work i can start i but i first 2 sreens thet i am week not have reset then i clik yes and agian yes en then i i can not to the game i error make me the problem who know my problem
I am playing CoD4 and I am experiencing some problems with mods and files... When I installed CoD4 I let it install as default. In the program files, Activision, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Directly after the install I downloaded Patch 1.6 and 1.6-1.7 After that I went to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare folder so that I could add my custom maps. But the folders I am looking for are missing. The folders located in my CoD4 MW folder are: Docs, Main, Miles, Mods, pb, Zone. Then there are 2 folders missing: players and usermaps. My game runs fine, but I cant do anything more... I have all my ranks, but I cant find my players folder. I did a search throughout my pc, for the names of those folders but couldnt find anything... I reinstalled CoD4 twice...
I installed CoD 4 on steam on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit version and when I click to start the game, it says ""Preparing to launch Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare..." and it stays there FOREVER until I click "cancel."
Dear vista heads i am having a problem running the game call of duty 2 on windows vista premium my OS version because i am getting an error that reads and i quote "DirectX(R) encountered an unrecoverable error".Is there anything at all you can do to solve it or even get around around for the game to run
can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...
every time my COD 2 cd tries to install Vista asks me to choose the auto play option and when i select auto play vista throws me an error saying "Access is denied", what does this mean?
I have a Desktop running XP - SP3 wired to a Linksys wireless router. My Vista laptop is wireless. I can connect to the Internet fine from either machine. I can see and access the laptop from the desktop but I can't see the desktop XP machine from the Vista laptop. I went through this same thing with my network up north but now that we've moved back to Florida I've got the same problem. McAfee network management shows both machines on the network but I can't access shared files and printers from the laptop.I know there are some settings I need to make to the Vista laptop but I can't remember what I did to get it working up north.
I have started to notice a lot of vista systems that are connected direct to cable modems saying not connected to internet or showing unidentified network. You cannot create a new connection, because the create a connection is for PPPoE only, (which is not very smart). And when the browser gives you the option to connect, it asks for name/password for a PPPoE connection.
1. How do I get the Vista networking to recognize the fact is has a direct connection to the Internet?
2. How can you create a new connection without it defaulting to PPPoE?
3. Is there any way to force Vista to simply connect to a network, if the network is available, and has been checked with other computers as working properly, and Network discovery is on, and vista simply says unknown network?........
I have a new HP Touchscreen with 4 megs of ram, dual core, and windows vista 64. I load call of duty and it loads but will not run and says their is a missing dll file. from direct x. Obviously Windows vista 64 has direct x 10, and COD4 runs from Direct x 9. When I go to install direct x 9 it says that I cannot install due to another application of direct x running.
I have just purchased a new desktop for my son running vista premium home and he cannot install call of duty 2. Is it a problem with the 32 bit, any ideas?
i am clearning my new menu entry using registry, but i forgot how to delete the windows live call entry in the new menu? really no idea where is the entry for this in the registry.
My set-up is very simple yet I cannot connect to a device. I have a Router which has three connections via ethernet.
1. Vista Machine 2. XP Machine 3. Music Server (systemline)
The problem I have is that my Vista machine will not connect to the music server - I cannot see the shared folders. My XP machine connects to it no problem, e.g. if I enter the location (
since i installled Vista I started to have problems running Word2000 from VBA Access. In any case I noted a difference between Winword2000 and other Office programs: on the normal launch Word shows a window for 'user account control', Cancel, Allow (or something like that, mine is not in english). Running Excel, powerpoint and other, not.
I need to run Word2000 from a vba macro in Access2000: no problem with XP or Win2000. If i call a 'new Word.Application' or 'Shell("c:...winword.exe')' i have the error: Function call or argument not valid or Automation Error To execute the requested operation is needed a higher rights.
If i change for 'calc' or 'notepad' there are no problems. If I put Word in other folder (ex. c: mpwinword.exe) Shell() is able to run it but hen i need to get the variable to control the program: if I call GetObject(,"Word.Application") I get l'error 13.
I currently have 6 PCs networking with Windows XP in my office. However, one PC is needed to replace. If the new PC bought is with Windows Vista Home Edition, it is possible to be networking to the existing PCs with Windows XP?
This is kind of off-topic and I apologize. I'm having difficulties and some questions regarding networking (Yes, there *is* a Vista machine involved ), but I figure that a network-specific forum might be better suited to my questions. Problem is that I cannot find a suitable place to ask. All the places I used to use seems moribund or gone.
I have bitten the bullet and bought a laptop loaded with Vista Home Premium, 64 bit. I also have a laptop running XP Home, 32 bit. I installed the LLTD Responder protocol on the XP box. I have a domain name of HOME for both computers. Still can't see the either computer on the network.
Everything was (mostly) OK until - I think - the most recent set of MS updates (?last week - all installed OK) on this Vista HP laptop (on all the time, rebooted maybe 1 a week... and not for a couple of days at least...) There have been oddities but last night on returning home from a public wifi location I couldn't connect to the internet... of course nothing had changed on the home network (1Gb LAN - Private -to Thecus N5200 LAN port...(DHCP on) WAN port connected to Netgear Wireless router; laptop wifi - Public - connected to Netgear (DHCP on))
After much fiddling with settings, most of which seem to put everything back as it was (except perh. NAT now OFF on the Netgear - thought the only reason it was ON was because of the only "mostly OK" referred to above as that resolved a previous problem...) everything is OK and I had internet with *both* networks connected...
a) Vista (still) seems unable to recognise that a change of Network (different SSID etc. etc. etc.) should probably require new settings....but it doesn't and connection remains stubbornly Local with the old (home) IP address, gateway, etc.
b) "Diagnose" doesn't achieve anything useful c) ipconfig /renew faills because Vista can't find the DHCP server... (is there a friendlier UI method of telling Vista *just* to get new IP settings without all the tedious and unhelpful "diagnosis"?)
c) ipconfig /all shows adapter STILL has the home IP address... disabling and re-enabling, disconnecting/reconnecting, random *&^%ing around eventualy brings it back to life and eventually a new IP address (and correct gateway and DNS) obtained.....
I just wondering if and how I can hook up two pc's together.(beside's networking) I mean so thay work as one. Why? Becouse I built another pc from all bits & pieces I had lying around and was wondering what to with it.
There are a lot of threads about on various sites about the problems of introducing a Vista PC into a network of XP desktops, but none of them answer my problem. Here it is: I have a network of two XP desktops and one laptop. My old laptop also used XP but this has since been replaced by a new Vista laptop. When I first introduced the laptop all was well and i could access any file on any PC from any other - I don't use passwords. Only one desktop has printers and each of the other PC print remotely via this desktop.
A few weeks ago something changed and now the Vista laptop cannot access any of the files on the two XP desktops. The laptop can see the two desktops and can also see the shared folders on those desktops. However it is not now possible to open the folders or access the files.
Both of the XP desktops can see the Vista laptop and can open folders and access the files on the Vista laptop without problem. The Vista laptop can also print via the XP desktop without any problem. It can therefore access the print spools on that PC. It just can't open the folders to get at the files.
What happened in this case is I installed the printer just like any other network printer, but it doesn't print. I see the job in the queue, it spools, prints and then the queue is blank but nothing comes out of the printer. And there are no errors. I have verified from the XP machine the printer does work. I found another article in Microsoft's TechNet Forums.
It says to add a NEW local printer and use UNC naming to add the printer to the intranet. I have done this before at work with no problem. Vista is suppose to have these drivers built in, but when we tell it to add the printer after filling out the path to the printer \computernameprinter (using the shared name) it asks for the location of the driver. I do not know where to look for this and when I go to HP's www site I can not download the driver as it says it's built into the Vista operating system and doesn't offer it for download.
Where would I point the wizard to for the driver? I looked in the windowssystem32driversen_US folder, but couldn't tell if I was in the right place. I guess I could just keep putting folders in until I found the right one
I have two vista computers on my wired Network and neither can see the other but both can see my Xbox360 which is also wired into my network im also having problems sharing folders on one fo the vista computers both computers connect to the internet no problem one connect directly to teh router the other also directly connects however has a second ethernet card and the two connections are bridged to supply internet to my third XP computer which also connects to teh internet no problem
I am trying to network both of my desktop computors with a Linksys router, both are windows vista,my new one is vista premium and the older one is vista basic, I run through all of the installation and setup steps required on both computors and no matter what I do I can only get one of them to access the internet at a time and they can't see each other.
