Cannot Display Video Mode

May 26, 2009

I have a Dell Inspiron 531s and Windows Vista. Basically, my little cousins were messing with the computer monitor and whenever I boot the computer, it would have a black screen that states "Cannot Display This Video Mode, Optimum Resolution 1440 x 900 60 Hz. I tried googling up solutions and many of them said to go into safe mode and change the properties. However, I tried that and it didn't work. After I entered safe mode, it would still show the black screen that says "Cannot Display This Video Mode". So I don't know how I can select the properties or anything like that.

DOS Program : Run In Fullscreen

Mar 23, 2008

I have a friend who just got a new PC with Vista Home Basic. He's using an old DOS program that worked under XP, but doesn't appear to work properly in Vista. When I execute the program, it comes up with the error message "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." My choices then are "Close" or "Ignore". Whichever option I click on, the program will then run, but in a miniscule window that I can't alter.

Any ideas on how to get this to run in fullscreen like it did before? I'm working on getting him to join the 21st century, but in the interim, I'd like to make this work...at least temporarily.

Fullscreen Games Not Compatable With Aero

Jul 27, 2009

The problem I've been having is that when I try to run a game in full screen mode the game will just minimize itself and no matter how many times i try to bring it up it just flashes a black screen and then returns to the desktop with the game still minimized. I believe I've found what causes this but I'm still not satisfied with my current solution. What I've found so far is that on my computer full screen games don't like to run in 32bit color mode. I've got an ati card and when I change the color setting in the catalyst control center to 16bit also disabling aero the games seem to run fine. What I'm trying to find out I guess:

A. am i fixing the root of the problem by doing this?

B. is there a way to have games incompatable with aero automatically adjust the color and aero settings when started then return the settings to normal on close?

Fullscreen Games Minimize To Tray Automatically

Apr 17, 2009

I've got a problem with my Vista Home Premium x64 and haven't found a solution so far. My PC started recently to minimize some games to the tray when I start them.

Those games are:
- Sacred Gold
- Ghost Recon (inlcuding both addons)
- Tom Clancy's HAWX Demo
- Braid Demo

I can't figure out what's causing this... The problem only started to occur recently - I don't know why. I uninstalled everything I had installed recently, but to no avail.

X64 New Install: Slow Internet Connection In Normal Mode; Fast In Safe Mode

Oct 12, 2009

Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:

Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........

No Video On 64 Startup, Change Video Settings

Apr 19, 2008

I have a quad-boot Intel CoreDuo machine with 4 GB of memory and an ATI AIW X1900 Radeon (multi-booting courtesy of EasyBCD). To put the matter as quickly as possible, all four systems (Vista 32, Vista 64, XP, and Ubuntu) have been happily coexisting for a long time. I haven't used Vista 64 for about 10 days and went in to do some work on it this morning. To my surprise, the video disappeared immediately after the green startup wait indicator. Eventually, after about the usual amount of time and hard disk activity, the startup sound came on but absolutely no video. I restored my full backup of the Vista 64 partition from last Sunday=97 same problem!

I went in on safe mode but it is impossible to change video settings or install new drivers in safe mode so that was a dead end. I tried the repair utility that comes with Vista but it could find no problem with startup. My working hypothesis is that something has gone wrong with the video drivers although that may not be the case. Even if it were, I can think of no way of fixing it short of completely rebuilding the Vista 64 system checked desperately do not want to do

Easy Way To Convert Mod/Tod Video To Regular Video

Jun 5, 2009

who has purchased a JVC Everio HDD video camera has probably learned that they chose to use some god forsaken proprietary video format - the .MOD extension. Apparently this is some sort of MPEG2 encoding, however, most major video editing suites prefer not to accept this format? what we need is something more common? such as .AVI or .MPG. I would be happy with the .MOD file format if the software that came with the JVC Everio actually worked.

I have tried many video converters software with no luck so far, it?ll get halfway through the process, and then something will fail. Now a type of converter called *'Mod Converter' appears. Here I want to share the one regarded as the best on the market by most people. I also want to share the instructions about how to use it. Step 0: Free download *'4easysoft Mod Converter 'and install it. ...........

Cant Get Out Of Safe Mode!

Mar 23, 2008

I've tried and tried, please I hope you can help me. I have a Toshiba A215-4817 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit. My troubles began when my cd/dvd was not operating properly. Toshiba support said my operating system was corrupt. I didn't believe that just because the cd/dvd wasn't working properly that the os is corrupt, maybe they were right.

I have extremely important info on my hd as I do taxes for a living.

In an effort to trouble shoot the cd/dvd I booted into safe mode. No-one tole me that the administrator account is disabled by default! So now I can't get out of safe mode. I have access to only my limited user account and uac is enabled. System restore doesn't change boot options.

I can't edit registry = access denied, cmd.exe when trying to activate administrator account = system error 5.

Pioneer DVR-K17 - Cannot Set To DMA Mode

Aug 4, 2009

My DVD R/W device failed and I purchased a Pioneer DVR-K17 replacement which is a dual layer DVD R/W device. It appeared to install correctly and automatically under Vista.

I noticed a problem when I tried to play a DVD, it was stuttering. I went to the device manager and tried to set the drive to DMA mode, since it was in PIO. The settings will not "stick". It always reverts to PIO. I have tried to find a way into the BIOS of this notebook, but there is very limited access to any settings by hitting the F2 key just after powering up. I cannot see anything anywhere on the internet on how to make this work.

I've gone through the msconfig, and told it to restart in normal mode, I'm still in safe mode. I've used the F8 button while starting it, and told it to go to safe mode, I'm still here. I've even checked to see if it was the resolution, I've set it to my default settings of 1280x720, and restart it, it's still in safe mode. I've done EVERYTHING that I can think of.
