On my programs transferred over from XP I keep on getting a message saying "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." It gives me a choice of close or ignore (of course ignore does nothing).

View 4 Replies View Relatedsince i upgraded to vista from xp pro, i have been able to view Internet and other flash based videos in fullscreen mode. everything is up to date, but when i try to fullscreen i end up with a dividing line from bottom left hand side of my screen upto the top right hand side almost like a " / " with the top left hand side all grey and the bottom right hand side is white, but no video will play? audio will play, but no dice with the video.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Tecra M5 (PTM51E) running Vista Ultimate. I would like to configure Bitlocker using the TPM which is on board. I am aware that Bitlocker can be used without a TPM, but this requires the user to have an external token e.g. on a USB drive which they have to insert at boot time. I would rather use the TPM mode so there will be no need for this.
I have flashed the BIOS to v3.60 which is the latest. Before I was able to flash the BIOS from within Vista (which is the only option provided on the Toshiba European support site) I found I had to load the drivers for the "Value Added Package", without this the BIOS updater simply says "Computer not supported". Another way to do it is get the BIOS for the PTM51U from the US site which allows you to write the BIOS updater onto a bootable floppy...........

View 7 Replies View RelatedI own an Alienware Area-51 7500-R5 gaming desktop. I am upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I am thinking to upgrade the RAM to 8GB. The only issue is that my system does not support Dual Channel RAM cards. Do they sell single channel RAM cards? I can't seem to find any. Another problem as well, I did a Crucial Memory Scan and it read: Maximum Memory Supported: 4096MB. Does this refer to that I cannot go over 4096MB because of my system or because of the Operating System I am running. I am running Windows XP Pro 32bit. I know 32bit can only process 4GB of RAM or 4096MB of RAM. But does the memory scan refer to the Operating System limit or how much my system can handle overall. When I bought it Alienware said I could do plenty of upgrades on it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell desktop computer & a Aser laptop, both running Vista Home Premium. I have a HP Officejet 6110 all-in-one printer. I also have a wireless router. From the desktop computer I can print just fine but I cannot print from my laptop. I have tried Adding a New Printer. It runs through all the steps. I have tried selecting "use an existing port" and when that didn't work I started over and chose "create a new port". Both times it looks like it is going to work. At the end you can choose to print a test page." However, it never actually prints a test page. I do not get any sort of error. If I go to file, print, it shows my hp6110 listed and it is highlighted but nothing happens.Can someone tell me exactly what I need to do to be able to print from my laptop? I'm somewhat dense to all the terms and jargin so please be specific.This forum is the only place I have ever been able to come to get answers that really work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe system will not go into sleep mode. i have checked the settings in windows itself to make sure it is setup correctly and it is. I have also installed another OS Windows XP 64 Professional and that will go into sleep mode. I do not know what is causing it but when the sleep button on the start menu i clicked it will act like it is going to go into sleep mode then instantly wake itself up without actually reaching sleep.

What i have observed is, this normally happens when i am trying to type on my laptop keyboard, All of sudden it goes to sleep mode and i have to press enter to get it back. The frequency of this unusual behavior has only increased by time. I have already installed the latest display drivers, I have also reset my Bios to default setting. Nothing seems to be working.

I've restored the system from the earliest possible restore point but that did not resolve the problem. The only clue that I can find as to the cause is the following event from the system event log. Event 7026, Service control manager eventlog provider. The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: spldr Wanarpv6. is that this is the cause of the safe mode but cannot find any solutions to the issue.

I'm getting a BSOD right when Vista gets to the login screen on startup. The system will boot to safe mode, but I have no idea how to fix it from there. This happened suddenly on a system that has been running stable for 6+ months. At first I thought that perhaps some of my RAM was bad, so I tried booting with just one stick in (I have 4x1gb), but it wouldn't boot on any of them. My other suspicion was that I had installed drivers for a new keyboard that night before (as that was the only recent change to my system configuration), so I deleted those, but that didn't help either. I'm thinking my next move is to flash my BIOS, but I'm running out of ideas......

View 6 Replies View Relatedi have installed litestep, didn't like it, so i pressed uninstall. nothin happened.i decided to reboot, did so, and when i log in, it shows My Computer in explorer! i thought it was just meant to be the desktop starting, not explorer. and there wsa also no taskbar anywhere. i pressed the windows button, nothin happening. anyway i tried safe mode, in which i noticed there was an exe file starting with the core drivers. that must be what is left of litestep.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have done a clean install of Vista Ultimate (64), and since then, everytime I start my computer, it fails to boot correctly. It passes the BIOS page, starts the animated bar at the bottom of the page, and a few seconds later, the screen goes blank, and my VDU gives the messgae, "NO SIGNAL" After about a minute, the system reboots to the BIOS page again and continues up to the animated screen, and stops again. After it self boots for a second time, I get the SAFE MODE option screen. If I leave it on START WINDOWS NORMALLY, and leave it to complete the 30s count down, It boots again, and then completes the boot into Vista. If at the count down screen, I press enter, it goes into a boot loop that doesn't stop until I press the reset button on my box.? I have done a re-install twice and problem continues.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use a system restore disk for my friend's computer that I downloaded. The computer have Vista, now I have a 32 bit and 64 bit disc. How can I find out which version of Vista I have? I cannot boot into window or safe mode ( I could figure it out from there). I also tried to check the Bios and saw nothing. The laptop only has 2 gigs of RAM I think, so I would assume 32 Bit, but I want to be sure. Also, if I used the wrong one, would it mess up the computer? or could I just redo it with the other CD?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for 2 days now to upgrade from Vista Business edition to SP1. The same thing keeps happening. I get through parts 1 and 2 ok, but when the system reboots for part 3, it reboots several times giving me the choice to boot normally or in safe mode, then eventually it stops rebooting and just goes blank. I can reboot successfully in safe mode but the installation of part 3 will ultimately fail (the error code points to not being able to install particular components as a result of being in safe mode) and the system has to regress to the original condition. I tried all the suggestions on the MS Vista upgrade trouble shooting site (as well as several other sites)- including checking for specific updates - none of which apply to my machine - at least that what windows update tells me when I try to install them, checked the disk for errors, and checked the memory for problems. I also turned absolutely everything no- original MS off for start up including antivirus and some other stuff that I have and the same thing keeps happening. Each pass, from upgrade install to fail, and regress back to original condition takes about 5 hours.
I'm running Vista on a quad core machine with 4G of onboard memory (even though Vista 32 can only use about 3 gigs) and a smoking video card so I doubt this is a hardware problem. This problem appears to be similar to the original 'endless reboot' problem that prompted the original halting of SP1 distribution back in the early spring - I thought that problem was fixed! I tried to get real time help from the MS site but got a message that there was a problem with the site. - Good Greif! This is probably the most frustrating MS experience of all time. With all due respect to the folks at MS, if it was your intention to have people to switch from Windows PC's to Apples or even Linux based PC's, I doubt you could have come up with a better plan. I've already switched two of my home computers to Ubutu!
I have a friend who just got a new PC with Vista Home Basic. He's using an old DOS program that worked under XP, but doesn't appear to work properly in Vista. When I execute the program, it comes up with the error message "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." My choices then are "Close" or "Ignore". Whichever option I click on, the program will then run, but in a miniscule window that I can't alter.
Any ideas on how to get this to run in fullscreen like it did before? I'm working on getting him to join the 21st century, but in the interim, I'd like to make this work...at least temporarily.
I was wondering if anybody has a fix for fullscreen transparency? I'd perfer not to use a program.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe problem I've been having is that when I try to run a game in full screen mode the game will just minimize itself and no matter how many times i try to bring it up it just flashes a black screen and then returns to the desktop with the game still minimized. I believe I've found what causes this but I'm still not satisfied with my current solution. What I've found so far is that on my computer full screen games don't like to run in 32bit color mode. I've got an ati card and when I change the color setting in the catalyst control center to 16bit also disabling aero the games seem to run fine. What I'm trying to find out I guess:
A. am i fixing the root of the problem by doing this?
B. is there a way to have games incompatable with aero automatically adjust the color and aero settings when started then return the settings to normal on close?
I've got a problem with my Vista Home Premium x64 and haven't found a solution so far. My PC started recently to minimize some games to the tray when I start them.
Those games are:
- Sacred Gold
- Ghost Recon (inlcuding both addons)
- Tom Clancy's HAWX Demo
- Braid Demo
I can't figure out what's causing this... The problem only started to occur recently - I don't know why. I uninstalled everything I had installed recently, but to no avail.
Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........
