Network Connection Failure

Jun 11, 2008

I am running Vista x86 Business edition andhave a rater irritating problem with the network. Every time I try to browse the Network folder from within Vista, it seems to reset that LAN connection to all machines on the network. It only seems to happen when I try to access the network though, I have not experienced this problem anywhere else. It is also worth noting that browsing the vista shares from another PC on the LAN works fine. I read up on what this guy did ( Random disconnects while browsing - Microsoft Windows Vista Community Forums - Vistaheads ) and disabled TCP/IP 6 and TCP autotuning but am still getting the problem. I have a feeling that it may be something to do with our old(ish) Belkin router; however, according to the Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool from MS, my router is all set to go with Vistas new networking features.

Internet Connection Failure

Aug 16, 2007

In January I bought a Dell Dimension E551(2.60 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 320 gig hard drive). This came with XP installed and a free Vista Home Premium upgrade when it became available. It was after installing this that my troubles began.

1. I discovered that my M-audio delta sound card is not yet compatible with Vista. Obviously I should have checked this out before install, but as a non-techie I naively assumed Microsoft would have issues like this covered before releasing their OS. Also, Dell supplied an additional disc with Vista which supposedly checks for conflicts before upgrade, but nothing came up about the sound card, hence I presumed it would work. I since moved the card to my other computer but I am now left with an m-audio control panel which I am unable to install (does not appear on add/remove program list).

2. My broadband Internet connection has failed. It worked for a few weeks, then became unreliable and now can't get online at all. My ISP (tiscali) claim it should work with their service, but none of their staff have been trained in Vista and can’t advise. I did eventually manage to get online by installing Virtual PC and running XP on that, so obviously it’s a Vista conflict somewhere and not the connection or hardware.

3. Windows Explorer seems to dislike certain files and will often crash and restart when attempting to access these files. Example: I created a folder and moved a zipped file into it (which was working fine from the desktop). Clicking on this file now instantly causes windows explorer to crash. I cannot now move or delete this file.

WiFi Connection Failure

Aug 12, 2009

I have a Vista Ultimate laptop which I used for work in the US. Now I live in Germany. During my initial stay at the hotels, I used the hotel wireless connection and Vista connected to the Internet fine. Now I live in an apartment and got the DSL service from T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom) and here is the problem. The DSL phone works fine. My Vista will not connect to the DSL router (Speedport 303V).

1.Every attempt to use the browser (Firefox or IE) to connect to the router?s IP address returns the following error message: Connection Interrupted The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

2.None of the external web sites can be accessed

3.The network configuration information from the Control Panel says I am connected to the Internet and the only application working is Skype.

4.My wife has an Apple laptop. She could connect to the router and the Internet from the beginning of this DSL setup.

One thing I did change in the Wireless card settings was the DNS servers. Soon after I added DNS servers from OpenDNS, and I have access to the Internet. I am still not able to connect to my DSL router. I disabled IPV6 for the interfaces and tried to use wired and WiFi access to the router and Vista will not access the router. Every other place I have used WiFi connection, DSL or Cable broadband, I
had no problem. This is the first time I am experiencing this.

Internet Connection Sharing Failure

when I enter network properties for my primary connection and I try to enable network connection sharing a window pops up and tells me this: An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start. I've tried enabling some services I found in another guide but that didn't help me. I've tried updating my windows, network drivers, starting every network related service inservices.msc, it seems like I've done everything.

VAIO & Wireless Connection Failure

Mar 23, 2008

I use a 3Com 3CWRDR100A-72 router that has worked faultlessly with many devices in my house; I use MAC Address filtering for security. However I have a brand new Sony VGN-FZ21Z that will not connect wirelessly to it...well sometimes it has but most of the time it doesn't, I have the router set to broadcast SSID and the FZ21Z sees it OK. With no encryption the FZ21Z will not automatically connect after coming out of standby or being shut down. Using WPA it has managed to connect probably 2 times out of 20 but mostly it fails - the log reporting a timeout error. I have a Sony VAIO VGN-N38Z sat next to it that is fine even when the SSID is not broadcasting.

Intermittent Failure: Not Connect To The Network

I have a four machine network. Two laptops running Windows XP Pro SP2. One laptop running Vista Home Basic. One laptop running Visa Home Premium. Both the Vista machines are up-to-date using Windows update. The machine which runs Vista Home Pr mium is on almost all the time - sleeping at night and being woken up In the morning. The other threelog in for a few hours daily.

The modem/router is a brand new Netgear DG834GT, firmware version 1.02.19. The Vista machines each have Atheros AR5007EG wireless adapters, both running with the very latest driver dated 5 Sep 2009. The network name is "Netgear". All machines are configured to obtain IP addresses from the router, which has the correct address range settings (i.e. excluding its own address)..............

WIRELESS Network Adapter FAILURE On ONLY AFTER SLEEP

Mar 23, 2008

1. My network has ALWAYS failed upon RESUME FROM SLEEP using a WIRELESS connection via a NETGEAR WN121T wireless-N USB 2.0 adapter, but NOT when using a wired Ethernet connection.

2. It also works perfectly from BOOT via the WN121T wireless connection with my NETGEAR DG834N draft 802.11n (and another 802.11g) wireless modem/router on Windows Vista Ultimate, both with and without the SP1 Release Candidate.

3. But upon resumption from SLEEP, the wireless n/w connection has ALWAYS failed: attempting to re-connect to the network fails, and Device Manager reports for the WN121T that ???Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)???.

4. The only remedy is to REBOOT.

5. The consequences of this are twofold:.........

Go-slow Or Failure To Connect To XP Network Machines

Jun 9, 2008

I am connected to the network using a wired connection and have the same workgroup name as the XP machines on the network. My files are stored on an XP machine that is used almost exclusively for this purpose - we call this the 'server'. I also run a couple of programs remotely from that machine, notably my mail program (Pegasus Mail).

on this Vista machine for a reason that I cannot fathom I am having a very slow connection to the files on the XP machine on the network. (Other XP machines on the network have no trouble accessing these same files quickly and effortlessly, though they are much older rickety machines by comparison with this one.) Some of these files are on the 'server' machine itself (on a Raid 5 system) others are on a Mybook external hard drive which I have removed from this Vista machine and connected to the XP one - in case this was causing the problems. I am not able to access my email program except painfully slowly and with frequent crashes or messages of 'not responding' though eventually the program catches itself and recovers. But obviously this is not workable.

I have tried to remove all sorts of devices in case they have suddenly caused conflicts (webcam, removed the Mybook from my own computer etc.). also replaced the network cable. I have also reset the router and restarted the computer. After reading a post on here I have also disabled the IpV6 on this. not able to access them using programs such as Breezebrowser or Photoshop Bridge.

Network Failure: Get Firefox Or Internet Explorer To Work

Dec 13, 2009

Every morning I wake up, I have to re-start my computer in order to get Firefox or Internet explorer to work. Have tried all below with both wired and wireless connection. All other functions, icons and various do-dads work, just connecting. If I happen to pass out and forget to logout of either Mozilla or IE, the screen I was on stays up but when I hit re-fresh(IE) or reload (mozilla) the problem pops up.

1. Wake up and touch mouse, desktop comes up, no problem

2. Check network connection, all seems good. Network icon shows full connection, you see the globe symbol, all good.

3. Try to access either Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox.

4. I.E. says it cannot connect and Mozilla says, well it says nothing at all except for "done" in bottom left corner of screen, but leaves a blank screen.

5. Have checked my power settings, and have made sure that both plugged in and on battery that the computer is not set to sleep. Never sleep............

Network Connection Together

May 15, 2010

At my office we have 2 computers (both Vista version 6.0) networked together. I'll call them computer A and computer B. I can access, modify, and save Computer B files from computer A - I can save them directly to B or A. However, when I'm on computer B, it will only let me access files on computer A, which I then have to save to computer B if I want to save any changes I've made. I get a message saying they're read-only files and I don't have authorization to save to computer A.

Windows Network Connection

Mar 28, 2008

My Desktop Windows Vista machine will not connect to the network. My router (Apple Airport Extreme) works fine and I can connect with my Macbook (macbook booting Vista) and my other Vista laptop. These connections are wireless. My desktop is wired to the router. My motherboard is an Asus Striker Extreme with two Gigabit ethernet ports. I have one disabled currently. Neither of the ports will connect to the network and they are both giving me the same type of error... making me think that this is software. Also, my PC worked fine the other day and then just began to not connect in the middle of nowhere.

Problem: Network adapters are stuck identifying network - local only. I pull Ipconfig and get that their IPv4 is set to 169.254.104.31(Preferred). Subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. I also found that I have three tunnel adapters for some reason. I have tried to create static IPs with both adapters, create my own subnet with both of them, I have tried to renew IP, release IP, delete & reinstall the adapters, reboot the PC many times, take each adapter out of BIOS individually, shut one down and work on them individually, try to have Vista repair the connections to absolutely no avail.

However, my main computer is not recognizing the router and is returning an APIPA address when I run ipconfig. I have tried to ping the router but am not able to hit it. I have replaced the cable (even though I do not think that is the issue as I am able to access via the virtual PC). I am unable to restore any connection.

WiFi Network Connection Dropping

Oct 20, 2009

My home is such that all my broadband to myPCs has to be wireless (the only place they could connect the cable was in an obscure, upstairs bedroom). In general this has worked just fine. I have 3 PCs currently connected to the network, One desktop and a laptop running XP and my new laptop running Vista (new is relative, I've been having this problem since January 2009 when I got the Vista laptop).

The two XP machines connect to the network just fine. Occasionally, when I work on the desktop, I'd see a notification icon that it has connected to the network, but in general I have no interruptions to my network connections. The Vista machine (Vista Ultimate, SP 2) is a nightmare. the WiFI connection keeps dropping. Additionally, often it would report that the network is connected, but in reality, nothing is reachable and I have to disconnect/connect to the network before any Internet site is reachable......

Virtual PC 2007, Network Connection In The VM

Jun 1, 2008

I have a strange little quirk I ran into that maybe one of you may know something about with Virtual PC 2007 SP1. I have Vista 64 bit Ultimate w/SP1 installed as the host computer. If I use the 32 bit Vista Ultimate as a Virtual Machine (VM), I have no problems with the network connection or anything else in the VM. If I use the 32 bit Vista Home Premium as a VM, everything works fine except the network connection in the VM. The settings are the same on both.

I wanted to use Home Premium since it is the only one that I have a spare product key number for. Does anyone know of a reason why the network connection will not work with the Home Premium edition over the Ultimate with the exact same VM settings? I hope it's not simply because I have Ultimate installed as the host.

Unidentified Network Wireless Connection

May 17, 2008

On my new laprop with Vista Home Premium I have several network connections for the different locations at home. Beside the wireless internet connection I have a wired and a wireless connection to my local network,, which ends up in a proxy server for the internet connection. My wireless connection directly to the internet (IP=3D192.168.1.51) is correctly identified with the name of my wireless router. The other network connections (IP 10.1.1.x) are identified as "Unidentified network" and declared as "Public". I always have to manually redefine it as "Private" but did not find a possibility to change the name. Is there a way to permanently set the desired values?

I also have a problem that the connection to my XP business desktop breaks down after a while. I have a mapping to a share (c$) which works prefectly for a while but after some time (don't have enough experience yet how long it actually takes) copying files from vista to XP is not possible anymore, while the opposite direction is still OK. I guess it cannot be a fierwall problem, I have turned off the Windows firewall and use a desktop firewall that works OK all the time.
