Microsoft plans to open stores? Just let Best Buy, WalMart, Office Depot and like stores sell the software. Won't this cause the Big Boxes to start to offer Linux machines? If only because MS is dipping into their pool.

Okay on a number of games i am getting a error the refects on my page pool being used up. I have 6 gb of ram and i know how to set my page pool stuff in the advanced setting and stuff. But even when i look it up after to task mang, i still don't see it all being used up its like at time 128 paged and 73 not then some times its like 200 paged and 53 non or something in that area. Forever changing. Its quite annoying cuz i cant tell if this is a problem. i used process explorer and it didn't show any programs that take too much pool or anything. Also its been like this for a while now, first with ALL steam programs ad now with some others. i dont quite remember when it happen or what i was doing when it started but all i know is its has to be my regfiles.
I started to send some pictures to a local store through Windows Photo Gallery and got all the way to the upload screen. I canceled out of it because I changed my mind and wanted to use a different local store. When I went back to choose the new store (Walgreens) it said that there were no stores in my area and I needed to try again later.
Is there an app similar to wordpad that can store window size and position for each file. I'm using it like a stick-it note. One file may contain to do list, which I size to a small window since each line is very short, another file may contain rebates status which would have a wider window, etc.
Windows Vista Home Premium. I used to know but forget... Can someone tell me where Windows stores newly installed updates? I want to uninstall the damned browser choice notice now being presented every time I boot. I just wish that unelected, corrupt bunch of crooks in the EU Commission would butt out. It was they who forced Microsoft to punish us this way. Although it would also have been sensible for Microsoft to add a 'Do Not Show Again' button.
I was using Microsoft Outlook Express as my mail client. Then Microsoft advised users to update to Windows Mail since they no longer supported Outlook Express..so I did. Now Microsoft is directing users to install Microsoft LIVE Mail? What is the difference between Microsoft Mail (which I am running) and Microsoft LIVE Mail....and, why would a user run LIVE over MAIL?
I am running Office Home and Student 2007 and have just run a diagnostic which suggests that my installation is not up to date and that I go to the Microsoft Update site and download any available updates. When I do, I am asked to sign on with 'Microsoft Update'. The idea is, I think, to combine this Microsoft Update with my Windows Update and let Office updates come though along with updates for Vista, IE, etc. I have posted here before with issues concerning updates including a fiasco I had last November which involved Office updates and am wondering, since Office seems to be working well at the moment (I was bored so I did a diagnostic ) should I bother with this or just leave it? Does Office have security issues like IE and Vista?
Do any of you have experience with Microsoft Silverlight? If so, what do you think of it? I am using Vista Home Premium but have not installed Silverlight because I don't know anything about it.
If I use microsoft windows mail, how do I get other non-microsoft newsgroups? I go to some binary groups and I always used Outlook Express to combine and decode multipart messages.
Several days ago I posted a question concerning the inability of my Microsoft Fingerprint Reader to function. I did not receive answers from anyone in the discussion groups. I spent several hours over several days speaking to a Microsoft tech support supervisor trying to get it to work, to no avail, and the case was closed by Microsoft as having no solution available.
This was not acceptable to me, being the curious person I am. I decided, what the hell, I'll just uninstall my OS, reformat and do a clean install. During the install I installed each and every update and application one at a time, checking the function of my fingerprint reader after each update and application, rebooting after each one. I had many updates and applications to install so it took me two days to discover the problem..........
Windows Vista Ultimate is the most comprehensive edition of WindowsVista. It is the first operating system that combines all of the advanced infrastructure features of a business-focused operating system, all of the management and efficiency features of a mobility-focused operating system, and all of the digital entertainment features of a consumer-focused operating system. I don't know why, but I can't get microsoft.com to load. I keep getting this message: Address Not Found Firefox can't find the server at 'Microsoft Corporation' [url] The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
* Did you make a mistake when typing the domain(e.g."ww.mozilla.org"insteadof "www.mozilla.org")

I don't know how to fix this problem because it's never happened before.
By now, having read the headline and looked at the above image, you've concluded that I've finally gone crazy. "That Microsoft news writer at Ars has finally lost it," you mutter sadly, shaking your head. I assure you though, it hasn't happened yet, nor is this an early April Fool's joke. While you can't get the shirt pictured above from Microsoft anymore (no longer available), the company will be offering it again soon: it's called The Misdemeanor. The one that you can currently purchase for a mere $10 is The 101, and it's available at Urban Outfitters. In case you're you're wondering, yes, the binary does translate to "Softwear by Microsoft." Still think this is some kind of prank? The official website for "Softwear by Microsoft, A Clothing Lin." is already live at Microsoft.com.
I have a retail copy (Not OEM) of windows vista ultimate on a laptop recently installed.
I've come across a problem which i cannot find an answer to on the web. As i've only just purchased and installed the OS i've decided to contact microsoft help and support.
inputting my product ID for a retail copy (Not OEM), microsoft help and support states, "No charge support is not available from Microsoft.
The product ID indicates that this product may be supported by your computer manufacturer. Contact your computer manufacturer for support or select a different support option below."
If anyone is interested the problem i'm contacting help and support regarding is you cannot send your bitlocker recovery password or EFS certificate to the bitlocker website via the control panel utility.
The Microsoft Security Essentials proved itself. My notebook started to run weird, lately. I was suspicious and start scan the whole system with McAfee, however it stopped on 11% of scan and showed me the error. I started it once more, but it was disabled again.
I have been using the Microsoft Security Essentials on the Windows 7 and because I was thinking about switching to this AV on the Vista at the end of this year, I got rid of the McAfee Total Security and installed the Microsoft, just to give it a try on Vista. Yes, it found and destroyed the trojan in the System32. Today, it blocked the another one during browsing the web.
For all you MVP's & "wannabes" in training, here's a few basic rules:
1) If a poster is having hardware trouble, always respond with "It's YOUR fault, you should have done you HOMEWORK", regardless of the actual problem. In fact, reading the entire post isn't even necessary.
- example: "So what if your new $500 "Vista Certified" video card has no drivers? We never said it would work right NOW, we meant it MIGHT work LATER." BTW, "Homework" = "Upgrade Advisor", yea, we know it's seriously flawed, but who cares? We get to laugh at & ridicule those stupid enough to have trusted it in the first place. It's a "win-win" situation for us if ever there was one.
2) If a poster is having software trouble, always respond with "It's YOUR fault, you should have done you HOMEWORK", regardless of the actual problem. See? Easy isn't it? We went to great lengths to make sure upgraders would have to buy as much new software (and hardware) as possible. See, we have this "deal" with the vendors, but don't mention this online, just blame the vendors instead. They don't care, they're getting rich too. Besides, they won't say anything if they know what's good for them.
3) If a poster protests or questions your reply, take it up a notch. Calling a poster stupid is usually sufficient to put them in their place. How dare they. Better yet, divert all attention by complaining about something totally unrelated, like top-posting or OT posts. Disparaging comments about the posters mental state or physical attributes are always a good way to sidestep any and all issues.......................
Microsoft bashers , that right you know who you are . You people are sad. I never before seen such a bunch of low life to spend your time bashing Microsoft. Every company has its fault but with all its fault you seem to spend your time bashing them , you guys are true clowns. What make me laugh is all the free time you have wasting away . Why don't you try to use your wasted mind on creating a operating system . This way instead of bashing Microsoft you can bash yourself as to how stupid you really are. GET A LIFE AND GET OFF THIS NEWSGROUP CLOWN. Microsoft why can't you block there isp. Or give MVP the power to delete them . Either way something needs to be done to these morons. Clowns >>> 99.235.42.171 like I care for your opinion
I'm quite happy with Windows Vista and have it on 4 machines. I recently bought a new HP mini note and was going to upgrade from the OEM Vista Business that came on the machine to Vista Ultimate, that is until I checked out the Canadian pricing for an Anytime upgrade. Microsoft wants us to pay $179 to move from business to ultimate which seems like a ridiculous amount. In checking out alternatives I noted that I can buy OEM Ultimate here for $209 or OEM Business for $165, so one would expect to pay some where around $45 more to upgrade not 4 times that amount. Even at retail pricing the price for full Vista Ultimate with SP 1 here is $329 and Vista Business with SP 1 is $299 a difference of $30, so how does Microsoft get off on charging $179 to upgrade from Business to Ultimate. I could see a small up charge say charging $60 but $179? This pricing is a total rip off!
i have been looking at the post for showing your desktop, can you advise me of any safe sites apart from microsoft for downloading vista gadgets please
When I start the PC, after the loading bar for Microsoft thing finishes, instead of going to login screen it gives me a blue screen, and it says Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area.
Vista evidently has serious USB issues on many computers (including my own). What concerns me most is that these problems have plagued Vista since launch and Microsoft still have not fixed them. Googling around to try to find solutions to my own problems, I come across people with BRAND NEW computers who are struggling with failing USB ports. So these problems are persisting nearly a year since Vista public release, and many years since the beta release. I am therefore left wondering if Microsoft have completely no idea what the problem is and are completely unable to resolve the problem?
I am running win xp 32 and downloaded vista 64 from the microsoft store. I have 3 files, Vista_HomePremium_SP1_64bit_English_Upgrade_Download_Part1_66I-01937.exe install.wim boot.wim. running the .exe file creates and populates a folder called 'Vista' then results in the following error
Windows Vista Setup Preparation. Can not extract Windows Vista Setup to your hard drive. Please ensure that you can create files and folders in the same folder where VistaSetupPrep.exe was downloaded. For product support return to your Digital Locker and view Purchase History to click on the support link for Windows Vista.
As I can't run the 64 bit upgrade from 32 bit XP I need to make a bootable cd from Microsoft give no information regarding installation. From searching the web I am lead to believe there is no way to make a bootable dvd from these files.
Where can I post Windows 7 queries? Why is Microsoft refusing to include a W7 newsgroup? Do they have an alternative means of answering user questions? Not an inconvenient forum
I just received this from < link removed by Dwarf > Someone using a hotmail account to announce a Microsoft Promotion does raise an eyebrow:

I have been using Microsoft Outlook 2007 for about two weeks everything was working fine. I have not change the way I used this program. I have used Microsoft Outlook 2002 for a few years so I had no real problems until recently. I save many of the e-mails I receive in either text or HTML format with no problem. When I save an e-mail now in either text or HTML now, a folder is automatically created with the same name I have created the e-mail I have created. The e-mail which I save is not saved in the folder which automatically appears. What is in the folder are three files: colorschememapping, filelist, and themedata. If after I save the file then go back and delete the folder with the same name as the file, both the folder and the e-mail which I saved are deleted. I do not know what is going on. Now my computer is getting filled up with e-mail messages I want to keep and folders that I really do not want. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I am aboutready to pull my hair out.
does not use Microsoft Window Explorer. He uses Firefox the default browser for Ubuntu. I guess the idiot uses it because he is just too stupid to master that hard to use insecure browser alternative in his beloved shista.
UAC could certainly have been handled better. It does something the security industry has been well aware of for a long time - it creates the "cry wolf" problem of popup fatigue (people turn off or ignore the popups after awhile). Vista is more secure than XP, despite what others might say, but it still gets infected. Since over 80% of all infections are based on social engineering, the popups should focus on that weak point. If UAC targeted the key areas where people run into trouble (as opposed to harassing the user on inane actions), it would be far more helpful and potentially make a really significant impact on infection rates.
Absolutely right. A single request for permission doesn't bother most people. What gets under the skin is the second UAC prompt, and the third, and the fourth, and so on. The closer together those dialog boxes arrive, the more annoying the phenomenon. I was all prepared to lay out my modest proposal for how Microsoft should tweak UAC in Windows 7. And then I said, "Hey, wait a minute! I already did this."..................
