Intel Lan X64 Ultimate SP1 Disable IPv6
Aug 25, 2008
It looks like since i updated Vista with SP1, i'm experiencing paquet loss. The motherboard is a Tyan 5400xt. (bios Updated to 1.01 - Latest stable) My cable modem box (ISP one) is on 192.168.1.1. When i ping -t 192.168.1.1 i have about 30% paquet loss !I changed the cable, the port on which the cable is plugged. Disabled IPv6 etc ..
It still happens.
When i do the same test with another computer @home (running vista 32, 3Com chip Lan) No probelm ! Prior installing this 5400xt, i was running a K8we, vista Ultimate x64 SP1 same cable, same switch port : No problems at all. So i suspect some bug / incompatibily with this Lan chipset and Vista. I'm running MS drivers because i cannot install the latest Intel Lan drivers. When I want to install them, it stops with a "software not compatible with this version of windows".
Here are my plans:
Boot a linux live Ubuntu : ping -t and see if it'shardware related or soft. Then (i suspect soft) Reinstall Vista from Scratch. Update just before SP1. Install Latest Intel drivers ( i was able to install them prior applying SP1, but after SP1 it starts to behave strangely and when i wanted to uninstall these drivers to test with MS drivers i was not able to uninstall - software incompatible with this version of windows).

Starting in Windows Vista and Server 2008, Microsoft includes native support for IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) and is enabled by default. IPv6 is the new computer address protocol that will eventually replace IPv4 which is currently the most popular standard. Unless you network has a specific requirement for IPv6, very few do, you can safely disable IPv6. Unlike other protocols, you cannot disable IPv6 by disabling the protocol on each of your network interfaces. While that will disable the protocol for the interfaces the loopback and tunnel interfaces will still have it enabled that can cause problems with applications. The proper way to disable IPv6 is to disable via the registry....

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate with IPv6 and Teredo installed and enabled, but it seems I am unable to ping any hosts on the local network (which consists of one other XP SP3 machine) or internet. Both computers are connected to a standard router (Dell TrueMobile 2300, which is
IPv4 only I believe). Still, an IPv4 router should not matter considering Teredo should be enabled on both computers. Running ipconfig returns the following:...........

When I logged on this evening an event balloon popped up telling me some service had failed to start and that Limited Users would not be able to log on. It vanished before I could make a note of it so I tried looking for it in the Event Viewer. I haven't found that message but I've noticed some things that concern me slightly:
At 3AM this morning my computer awoke from Sleep mode for two hours. I hadn't even known this was possible without my intervention unless I had Wake on LAN enabled (or Wake on Ring/USB/ etc. The only wake event I'm aware of having configured is Wake on Keyboard). During this time, Windows Update ran and the system time was updated so maybe this is normal..................

I have a Aspire AM5620-E5301A Acer computer. On Acer it has Windows Vista Premium Home. I bought Windows Ultimate software to put on my Acer computer. It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. It was a store bought software it was cheaper than Acer price they offer. What is the problem with installing Ultimate with Acer computer?

I bought a Vista back in 2007 and the internet has been working great until recently. I got a rogue on my laptop and ever since I only get local access. I've been googling this thing for around 3 ~ 4 days now and I've tried just about everything I've come across and nothing seems to be working. It says I'm connected to the router with excellent signal strength but then it says the router isn't connected to the internet and I'm sure that's not the issue because the computer I'm typing this on is connected to the router fine and it's a Vista as well so I'm sure it's not a router-Vista compatibility issue.
I've tried ..
- disabling IPv6
- updating drivers (there were no updates)
- multiple scans
- disabling firewall
- uninstalling norton (with the removal tool download)
- deleting my router profile and trying to connect again
- connect via ethernet cord (doesn't work)
When I do IPCONFIG /ALL, I get .. I've tried manually putting in the IP stuff, but I didn't know the gateway and DNS details so I couldn't really do it.
** I DONT have the reformat disks. When I bought the laptop they didn't provide me with one and when we asked for one they said they'd send us one but never did. Now they're closed (nationally) and I'm not sure as to where I could get one...................

Quote: The giant chip manufacturer Intel today announced that 97% of its test community would recommend Windows 7 to their colleagues. These claims were made after a 3 month evaluation with Intel’s employees. Intel have also said they plan to begin Enterprise Deployment of Windows 7 at the beginning of 2010. This would replace Windows XP (Intel like many others didn’t adopt Windows Vista) which is currently on their companies laptops and computers. More - Intel Give's Windows 7 The OK | Windows 7 News

What is overclocking? Firstly, it is currently the mostly widely used word that does not appear in the English dictionary...... Secondly, it is operating hardware (particularly CPU, RAM, motherboard, and video card) above and beyond rated specs. Rated specs are the level to which a particular piece of hardware is expected to, has been tested to, and is warranted to perform. What this equates to in the real world is a certain price tag for a certain level of expected performance.... Overclockers strive to determine not what hardware should do, but what can do.
Overclocking is more of an art than a science. There is no combination of settings that will yield the best results for every system...... Greater experience does make the overclocking process less cumbersome, but it is and always will be a trial and error process..... Don't be afraid to experiment, but always take things slow and be aware of temperature and voltage limits. Overclocking Basics (particular to Intel systems, though many of the concepts apply to AMD systems as well)
1) Limitations - Each hardware component has physical limitations that, at a minimum, meet the rated (stock) specifications..... In the process of thoroughly overclocking a system, the actual limitations of various components will be found. In general, the CPU, RAM, and motherboard will control the overclock, but other components such as the PSU and cooling will have a major impact on overclocking abilities..... Depending on which of the three primary components (CPU, RAM, and mobo) is the first to reach its limits, different steps can be taken to squeeze more out of the other components. Video card overclocking is generally independent of overclocking the components previously listed.
2) Overclocking in the BIOS vs. overclocking software - Whenever the option exists, manipulating BIOS settings is the best way to accomplish overclocking..... BIOSes on value/low end motherboards and on proprietary systems such as Dells and HPs generally have few to no options available for overclocking....... On such systems, there is the potential to overclock through software, though there is not a single piece of software to overclock every board............

I am running Windows Vista Business on a Vaio VGN-TZ21WN and I loathe the entire experience. The notable changes in SP1 list gives me some hope, however SP2 won't come up in Windows Update. Before I use the standalone install, I have read all the possible reasons why this might happen and it appears the only driver issue left is the Intel video chip: I am stuck with 7.14.10.1387
The update from Intel won't install - asking me to get an update from Vaio. Vaio are not offering anything new yet. Longshot time: Has anyone else here forced an install SP1 in a similar situation? I am keen to at least try and fix this nasty, nasty OS before I am just forced into buying a Macbook instead.

I built a computer for a friend of mine running Vista Ultimate 32bit OS, with SP1 installed. Everything's been working great, except one annoying issue that I can't get to the bottom of!! When the machine is shutdown from the operating system, it powers all the way down and then it turns right back on...I've checked all of the wake-on settings in the BIOS and Device Manager, checked the powerconfg -devicequery wake_armed from the command line and disabled all of the devices that showed up, clearing all of the entries...I've updated the BIOS and Chipset drivers too. I have the Intel DG33FB Motherboard with Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor installed.

i have a dell xps 630i thats running windows vista. on friday, around 230 eastern time, my computer crashed. when i went to turn it back on tho, i saw something different with the dell writing, and the intel logo on the bottom right corner. they both were covered with dots eveywhere. After that screen passes by, i got a different new screen that i never got before. it was a phoenix awardbios screen. and below that it said, floppy disk(s) fail (40).
never seen that before. when i try to start my computer up, i can either go to start up repair or start normally. when i do the start up repair( ive done it 9 times already) it says my computer cant fix the problem, and then i can either send or not the error report. and when i start it up normally, it goes to a blank screen. and then my computer goes into power save mode. anyone know whats up with it and how i can fix it.

Following a report Monday on the Inquirer, the New York Times reported Wednesday that Intel's IT department "found no compelling case" for upgrading.
And that's despite the fact that it's been nearly seven years since XP debuted. It's not a good thing, if your customers are electing to stick with 7-year-old technology. (In fairness, XP did get a fairly big update with Windows XP Service Pack 2, but even that is four years old at this point.)
Microsoft, which once predicted businesses would adopt Vista at twice the rate they moved to XP, has scaled back its ambitions and these days talks a lot about how long the adoption curve is for businesses when it comes to new operating systems.

My computer performed an automatic update Saturday night. This was deemed "important" by the Windows Update program. It completely blew up the graphics on my computer, a 4 month old Dell Insperion 530S running Vista Home Premium. It turned my 19 inch monitor into a 12 inch monitor. Some web pages were squeezed into the middle of the screen, with blank spaces on each side. Some were spread way out. Some were all the way to the left, some all the way to the right. Neither Word nor Excel displayed properly. Only Quicken seemed okay, but not QuickBooks. I restored the system to the previous settings, and fixed the problem, but automatic update did the same thing last night and I had to restore it again.
I have disabled the automatic update feature, at least for now. I don't want to be subjected to this every morning when I wake up! I don't know if this is an Intel problem or a Microsoft problem, but the lack of testing on a update like this is just inexcusable......

Is Intel's Viiv just something similar to Microsoft Media Center, or is it something that enhances video performance? It's rather confusing, as what I find seems to imply it's a 'hardware and software solution'....
I'm trying to figure out if uninstalling it (it came with the computer) would cause any problems. If there is a no_junk in my address, please REMOVE it before replying! All junk mail senders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!
