About once a week my screen resolution seems to be changing--I think on its own. I do have small kids that sometimes touch the keyboard, so that might have something to do with it, but I don't think so. I say its the resolution, but I am not even sure of that. When it happens the icons get bigger--and webpages font sizes become too big for a page. I have tried manually adjusting the screen resolution, but that doesn't seem to be the answer--it doesn't put it back the way it was before. To fix the problem, I have been restoring my system to previous dates---but it always seems to re-occur.

Although my card supports 2xxx x 1xxx resolutions and my monitor supports 1920x1200 optimal; I can only reach 1920x1080 at maximum resolution. All my drivers are up to date. What can I do to solve this problem? Can I do anything? What is wrong?

I'm having some problems with my screen colour and resolution atm. Tryed system restore, updating drivers and generaly looking on google for answers but most are unclear at best.
Imageshack - myscreen
Imageshack - devices
These are 2 SS. 1st is what my screen looks like. Although I must say it looks alot worse on my acctual screen. Second Is what I figure the problem is due to them simply not working. NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS < Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have an older Dell PC and have re-installed Windows XP on it three times. The OS seems to work fine each time but it gives me no way to adjust the resolution. I go into adjust screen resolution and it wont let me adjust anything, the slide bar, in advanced, and under settings. I can't change anything even trying to load the software for the monitor fails?

I have just upgraded my PC to Vista from XP and purchased a new monitor, capable of supporting 1440 x 900 resolution. Problem is that the screen resolution cannot be changed and is fixed at 640 x 480. I've tried via the settings in the control panel but I cannot drag the mouse on the slider bar from low to high resolution.
The online help suggests I may have an inadequate video card, Does anyone know how I can check this? What card do I have now and what do I need? Or is there another solution?

I am having ongoing resolution problems when I install my video card drivers. BEFORE I install them, my screen resolution is 1280x1024 which is what it should be. AFTER I install the nVidia drivers, the maximum allowd resolution drops to 1024x768. Note: I have an SLI configuration. Also, This is the maximum allowed resolution. It is too low for my monitor.

I've been trying to increase the full-screen resolution of 'visualize' without much success. I've openned up the the 64-bit version of WMP and changed the resolution in Tools - Plug-ins - Options - Visualization - Battery - Properties, but even in WMP that doesn't work and obviously doesn't work in VMC. Has anyone had an success in changing the resolution?

In experimenting with different resolutions I tried (1), but when I tried to change it I was unable to reach to the bottom of the window where, I imagine, choices reside. I've dragged the window up as far as it will go and dropped the Taskbar down out of the way, but I still cannot reach the buttons to change the resolution. What key strokes or other actions do need to do to change the resolution?

System Specs:
Dell XPS M1710 -
80gb HDD
Intel Core Duo T2600 (2.16 GHz)
2 gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX 512 MB graphics card
WUXGA Truelife Glossy screen
I recently reformatted my harddrive with gparted. Created a primary partition (nfts) and installed vista home premium 32 bit on it. On the remaining unallocated space I installed Ubuntu 8.10. Before I did this my display in vista was beautiful, 1920x1200 resolution. Ever since I reinstalled vista and reinstalled my nvidia driver it lists the current resolution as 1920x1200, but I can definitely tell that it is not the same resolution as before. I'm very frustrated because my monitor/graphics card is definitely not running at 1920x1200 resolution, but it says that it is under my display settings.

I am running Windows Home Premimum 64 bit. I started having numerous problems a couple of weeks ago, including: Screen resolution was changed, Clear Type and User Account Control were disabled, computer would stop responding temporarily of lock up completely, blue screen at boot up or computer would boot to recovery console, monitor would be on at boot up but would not come out of sleep mode. Finally last night the key board and mouse (both wired) stopped working. I changed the mouse and keyboard to ones that used usb connectors and was able to boot up again, and this keyboard and mouse work, but still having performance issues (hanging, 3D screen saver runs jerky. I tried to run Trend Micro Housecall but could not get to run. I tried to update the Nvidia drivers several times and my computer would shut down before the installtion was completed everytime. I would get a blue screen with the notice that the computer had been shut down to protect it from damage. Norton 360 found nothing. I have since uninstalled Norton. Ran AVG, nothing.
Finally Kaspersky online deep scan found these:
C:ProgramFiles(X86)Online ServiceseBayWizLink.exe Trojan.Win32Agent.cwkw
C:ProgramFiles(X86)Online ServicesESPwizlink.exe Trojan.Win32Agent.cwkw
C:ProgramFiles(X86)Online ServicesquickenfcWizLink.exe
Trojan.Win32Agent.cwkw
But did not offer a way to remove them.

Being on a 17" CRT 1024 x 768 resolution for a long time, would it be alright to move over to a 13.3" screen with 1280 x 800 resolution? Yes I've been told by many of the designers that it is not good at all but I think the comments weren't exactly right since they are already working on large monitors with high resolution support. So what say you? Of course I'm no professional in designing, currently still studying and learning.

I have Vista Business. The problem is that the screen resolution resets itself after a restart. When it comes up, the resolution is 1400x1050, which makes the font tiny. I reset to 1024x768, apply it, and things are fine until the next day when the computer is restarted.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32 bit that I'm using in dual-boot mode with Windows XP Professional SP2. I am using an old ViewSonic monitor and I don't have the drivers. Windows XP is apparently using a generic driver which lets me set any screen resolution I like and I usually use 1024x768. Windows 7 has a generic driver which will only allow 800x600. Does anyone know if the Windows XP video driver will work in Windows 7 and, if so, the best way to copy and install it?

I have my screen resolution set to 1920x1200, native is set to this, nvidia control panel confirms it, yet every time I restart after a shutdown or an update, my screen resets to some random low resolution such as 1020x768 or 800x600 (the worst of the 2, it set the colors all funky). Every time after it does this, I have to go back and change the resolution back, and move all of my icons back to their places. I have tried everything to get rid of this problem, even such as to change the registry defaults for resolution. I have base video off, and all other solutions people seem to have do not work. I have had lots of experiences with computers, but this one has stumped me. If I missed a default or it is one of those things that just is so obvious that you overlook it

I changed my screen resolution in order to better view a video. When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.

I have a Samsung LCD 720P HDTV 32" that I have been using as a secondary monitor. I just bought a new computer (HP Elite M9060N) with vista on it and a Geforce 8500GTS NVIDIA card (factory installed). When I try to extend my desktop onto my tv (using Dualview) it doesn't fill the entire screen. It leaves a black ring around the outside. I've tried adjusting the resolution, but it doesn't work. In addition to the ring, the resolution on the tv looks horrible. I have the refresh rate maxed out and tried flip flopping which monitor is my primary but just can't seem to get it to work. I'm also using a Samsung LCD 20" monitor and connecting my extra monitor with an HDMI cable.........

Using Vista at home (dunno wot flavor at the mo as I'm at work now - sorry). I use Firefox browser. I know that FLV streams I download are cached in a directory, in my case called " C:UsersGrazTreezAppDataLocalFLVService " Problem I have noticed is that after I have streamed several clips onto my PC, and then I go to view them, some are not there, ie the earliest ones I downloaded arent there. The latest ones will be though. I can dbl-clik on those and see them ok. Theory was that I would download a load of clips at once, then simply view them at a later time, but since some are not viewable now it appears I cant do this. They simply aren't listed in the directory. Question is, if this cache of streamed clips is one bucket of a certain size, can I alter its size to be bigger ? OR,if it is not one size, can I alter this directory/cache spec to be a bigger size in any way so that it will take eg: 1Gb of data before starting to delete stuff ? OR, can I turn off the deleting process so it will all be saved, rubbish an'all? HDD space isn't an issue. I have TB's spare. I dont know if I'm talking browser (Firefox) or Windows or Flash size limitations here, so any pointers would be welcomed.

After go out for a while, I open up the lid and... see the fact is that the laptop is still waiting for me to click Shutdown now to shutdown!!!! I can not print screen but it looks like this:The following programs are still running:... To close these programs and turn off your computer, click Shutdown Now. You may lose work that haven’t saved. So can we force the computer to shutdown when I close the lid?

I have a program that is not responding. For some strange reason it is not possible to close it from task managed. I tried several times both End Task and End Process. The program is not a Windows system component. It is a slide and video demo program, that was started from CD. Problem appeared when I accidentally removed a CD from drive without closing the program first.I have administrative rights and all other programs that I tried to close with End Task, did close nicely.

I am trying to run some 10 year old software. It installed fine, but when I try to run it the program first does a check to make sure I have enough available RAM. When it checks my Free RAM it says I have -130MB of Free RAM and the program won't even try to start. Now - I understand from reading these forums that VISTA ties up all available RAM. Is there a way to tell VISTA to keep some 80MB or so free so that my software will start?

With the release of IE8 and the number of users are growing rapidly it is important for web developers to be ready for the new way that IE8 renders web pages. Microsoft decided IE8 will render web pages in a new web standards compliant mode by default. While this decision should simply making web sites that work in all web browsers, it is going to break many web sites that were designed to older rendering engines of Internet Explorer.
Rather than rewrite your entire web site to be standards compliant to work properly in IE8 Microsoft has given web developers a way to force IE8 to render your web page with the IE7 rendering mode. Simply add a special code to your HTML code.
Insert the following right after the <head> tag in your HTML code.
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />

I have a problem with my new monitor and XP/Vista
I have 3 PC's hooked to the same keyboard/mouse/monitor through a KVM switch. I used to have a 19" CRT at 1280x1024. I would power up each PC at the same time and then log them in 1 by one switching the inputs. No worries on any of the PC's.
However since I got me new HP LP2475w 24" LCD monitor which likes to run at 1920x1200 I have been having issues. The PC that has the monitor active boots fine into 1920x1200 but the others boot into a 1600x1200 mode and make the screen offset. If I boot each one with the monitor active then there is no issues but it takes much longer as I have to wait for each one.
How can I force them to stay in the 1920x1200 mode that I have set in the display options?

Ever since I did a Windows update back in July, my video card has been acting up. While I'm using the computer the image on the screen starts breaking up, then I get a black screen. I have to force the computer for a shut down. After so many re starts I get a message saying "Display Driver Stopped working and has recovered.
I can use the computer for a little while, and then I get the same problem again. I took my computer to fix when I started experiencing this problem. All they did was clean the fan they said the video cards was good. I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9339 bought in June 2007. Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 4 GB Ram 32 bit Internet Explorer 7. I know a few people here had the same problem. Did someone found the fix for it?
