Im not too sure if this is the right place to write this. but my laptop went flat, and then i charged it, and it was on the lowest screen resolution possible. i tried 2 change it, but its still horrible, theres no way to put it back to the original resolution. i tried updating drivers and stuff, and some of the stuff u guys write isnt good for ppl hu dont understand computers haha.
View 6 RepliesI'd like to put a little disclaimer out here: I know very little about computers. I can navigate my way around them as needed for personal/school usage. Outside of that, my knowledge is spotty. Most of the technical stuff I need done on my computer is done by my father over breaks/weekends, because I can't leave my laptop with the Tech guys at my school since I take notes for every class on it.
So now for the computer... Oi. The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 1420. I got it back in May. It's running Vista Home Premium 32BIT, and I'm using Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 (I don't know if that is relevant or not, but I'll include it just the same). Since I've gotten it, I've had more problems than I can count. The last problem I had before the current one (random BSODs), was a corrupt file on my computer (Dell Support Center). It wouldn't let me download or install anything, and I had to install SystemMechanic on my computer to get rid of the corrupt files/registries (I think. My father actually did this for me.) The SystemMechanic allowed me to uninstall/delete the corrupt file, and voila, it worked! For about two weeks.
Then I started getting blue screens of death. At first it was only one, and there were a few days/week and a half until I got another. And now, in the past two days, I've gotten at least two (I have left my computer sitting on my desk to do something and I have come back to find it "magically" rebooted and waiting for my login, or stuck on the black screen with the blinking underscore).
I just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout once a week my screen resolution seems to be changing--I think on its own. I do have small kids that sometimes touch the keyboard, so that might have something to do with it, but I don't think so. I say its the resolution, but I am not even sure of that. When it happens the icons get bigger--and webpages font sizes become too big for a page. I have tried manually adjusting the screen resolution, but that doesn't seem to be the answer--it doesn't put it back the way it was before. To fix the problem, I have been restoring my system to previous dates---but it always seems to re-occur.

These are 2 SS. 1st is what my screen looks like. Although I must say it looks alot worse on my acctual screen. Second Is what I figure the problem is due to them simply not working. NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS < Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I have an older Dell PC and have re-installed Windows XP on it three times. The OS seems to work fine each time but it gives me no way to adjust the resolution. I go into adjust screen resolution and it wont let me adjust anything, the slide bar, in advanced, and under settings. I can't change anything even trying to load the software for the monitor fails?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded my PC to Vista from XP and purchased a new monitor, capable of supporting 1440 x 900 resolution. Problem is that the screen resolution cannot be changed and is fixed at 640 x 480. I've tried via the settings in the control panel but I cannot drag the mouse on the slider bar from low to high resolution.
The online help suggests I may have an inadequate video card, Does anyone know how I can check this? What card do I have now and what do I need? Or is there another solution?

I've openned up the the 64-bit version of WMP and changed the resolution in Tools - Plug-ins - Options - Visualization - Battery - Properties, but even in WMP that doesn't work and obviously doesn't work in VMC. Has anyone had an success in changing the resolution?

I've dragged the window up as far as it will go and dropped the Taskbar down out of the way, but I still cannot reach the buttons to change the resolution. I recently reformatted my harddrive with gparted. Created a primary partition (nfts) and installed vista home premium 32 bit on it. On the remaining unallocated space I installed Ubuntu 8.10. Before I did this my display in vista was beautiful, 1920x1200 resolution. Ever since I reinstalled vista and reinstalled my nvidia driver it lists the current resolution as 1920x1200, but I can definitely tell that it is not the same resolution as before. I'm very frustrated because my monitor/graphics card is definitely not running at 1920x1200 resolution, but it says that it is under my display settings.
I am running Windows Home Premimum 64 bit. I started having numerous problems a couple of weeks ago, including: Screen resolution was changed, Clear Type and User Account Control were disabled, computer would stop responding temporarily of lock up completely, blue screen at boot up or computer would boot to recovery console, monitor would be on at boot up but would not come out of sleep mode. Finally last night the key board and mouse (both wired) stopped working. I changed the mouse and keyboard to ones that used usb connectors and was able to boot up again, and this keyboard and mouse work, but still having performance issues (hanging, 3D screen saver runs jerky. I tried to run Trend Micro Housecall but could not get to run. I tried to update the Nvidia drivers several times and my computer would shut down before the installtion was completed everytime. I would get a blue screen with the notice that the computer had been shut down to protect it from damage. Norton 360 found nothing. I have since uninstalled Norton. Ran AVG, nothing.
Finally Kaspersky online deep scan found these:

Yes I've been told by many of the designers that it is not good at all but I think the comments weren't exactly right since they are already working on large monitors with high resolution support. So what say you? Of course I'm no professional in designing, currently still studying and learning.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32 bit that I'm using in dual-boot mode with Windows XP Professional SP2. I am using an old ViewSonic monitor and I don't have the drivers. Windows XP is apparently using a generic driver which lets me set any screen resolution I like and I usually use 1024x768. Windows 7 has a generic driver which will only allow 800x600. Does anyone know if the Windows XP video driver will work in Windows 7 and, if so, the best way to copy and install it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my screen resolution set to 1920x1200, native is set to this, nvidia control panel confirms it, yet every time I restart after a shutdown or an update, my screen resets to some random low resolution such as 1020x768 or 800x600 (the worst of the 2, it set the colors all funky). Every time after it does this, I have to go back and change the resolution back, and move all of my icons back to their places. I have tried everything to get rid of this problem, even such as to change the registry defaults for resolution. I have base video off, and all other solutions people seem to have do not work. I have had lots of experiences with computers, but this one has stumped me. If I missed a default or it is one of those things that just is so obvious that you overlook it
View 4 Replies View RelatedI throw this thing out the window? My pc auto. restarts, every thurs. after doing downloads. The last few times when it has looked like the screen was from 1990. I have tried to go to control panel, adjust resolution, chose screen 1, and moved the resolution pixels to 1280 by 960. My screen still looks older, and it is wider but, a little sharper. I have a resolution reminder that keeps popping up that states my pc's resolution may not match this monitors optimum 1440x900 setting. See printed or online documentation. Press AUTO button on the side of this monitor after adjusting the screen resolution. I have tried that AND do not understand why in Control Panel, I CAN NOT set my resolution/pixel to 1440x900, I tried going up to 1280x1024 and the screen just gets wider! ---WHAT AM I MISSING? Does NVIDIA need to be adjusted too, if so where?

When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.

I just bought a new computer (HP Elite M9060N) with vista on it and a Geforce 8500GTS NVIDIA card (factory installed). When I try to extend my desktop onto my tv (using Dualview) it doesn't fill the entire screen. It leaves a black ring around the outside. I've tried adjusting the resolution, but it doesn't work. In addition to the ring, the resolution on the tv looks horrible. I have the refresh rate maxed out and tried flip flopping which monitor is my primary but just can't seem to get it to work. I'm also using a Samsung LCD 20" monitor and connecting my extra monitor with an HDMI cable.........

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed AoE3 on my computer and it works fine, I can start it and all that. Though then I ran into some trouble. I can't make home cities! When I click the "create-button" it freezes for a while and then I come to the menu which is supposed to let you handle your cards and all that. Though there is no city chosen, and when I try to choose one the only option I can click is create new home city. I simply don't get it. One would assume that it's something wrong with the game, and yeah. Of course there is, but I tried reinstalling it and that didn't resolve the issue..! Then I installed AoE: Asian Dynasties thinking that a later update might have a fix, but nope. Problem remains. This is really starting to get to me... I'm at a LAN and I'm the only Vista user you see, though I've had it installed on this computer before so...
View 9 Replies View RelatedIve got vista ultimate 64. With a standard computer. My problem is that I cant configure my mouse buttons. After I install the latest 64bit mouse driver, and click on the mouse icon to configure the mouse buttons, an error pops up that says - 'Some mouse settings might not work until you connect a Microsoft mouse to a USB port on your computer or set up a Microsoft mouse that uses Bluetooth technology'.
The problem is that I have a microsoft mouse that is connected to a USB port. The mouse works fine on my spare XP computer so its not the mouse that's faulty. I tried separate microsoft mice - wheel mouse optical and the intellimouse optical, both by microsoft and both have same issue.
I tried different usb ports and same happens. I tried the ps2 port and same happens.
I uninstallled all mouse drivers and reinstalled but no help. Basic left and right click works but cant configure the wheel button. It was working a week ago, but I went for a holiday and when I came back it was faulty. All vista updates are installed, security is the windows firewall, AVG free antivirus, and windows defender, but none of these have been a problem before
I recently spilled something on my Microsoft intellitype pro natural ergonomic 4000 keyboard and, after letting it dry and all that stuff, it started to mess up the keyboard keys. Now, "f" types both "f" and "space" and vice versa, "o" brings up the "My favorites key assignment screen, "5" or "." brings up both a "5" and "." together and finally, maybe the worst, "comma" brings me to the last page I visited. (luckily, as I was typing this, I also found that the page is always exactly as I left it, so all the words I struggled to type so far are still there when I go forward in my browser history.) Now I play a lot of FPS games on this computer and this is very very irritating to me. Is there any way to fix this without buying a new keyboard all together? View 6 Replies View Relatedwhy [question mark] because they are not workin, when i push the left one it does this kLJFS; but puts it way back at the beginning of whatever i was typing and turns on my caps and when i push the right one it does this ][iOURW! and if i had words in front of that [i had to do that in another program to make it nt erase all this] it gives me this W! and erases a bunch of stuff infront of it. this is really driving me nuts and i cant figure this out, i cannot unplug the keyboard because this is a laptop. i just bought this laptop like 3 days ago and it has been working wonderfully up until now.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with Google Search. it has been this way ever since I got this new computer back in April. It does not do this on any "Search" but Google. I have Google as my home page. When ever I type something into the "Search" bar and click on search, it goes as it is suppose to, to the search results. If i go back to Google search and remove the former Search item and replace it with a NEW search term and hit search, it goes nowhere. it will not move. i have to X out of the Browser and then open up a new browser and then type in the term and it will go. This is strange as it does it on Google only. the Google toolbar will do the same thing. It really is annoying to have to x out of the browser and open another one for a different search term. I have never had a problem like this before.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm not a computer guru but I know enough to get myself in trouble. I bought a new Dell laptop about 6 months ago and they talked me into going with Vista Home Premium. I really like what Vista is supposed to do but I'm getting way too frustrated with all the little things that go wrong all the time.
1. Internet Explorer locks up then fades and says it's "Not Responding". Then I go to Task Manager and kill the program then start up IE again and all is well, for a little bit anyway.
2. A couple of programs will all of a sudden freeze the entire laptop and the only way I can fix it is to hold down the power button until it powers down............
