4870 Crossfire Instability:not Getting The Framerates On My 1920x1200 Monitor
Aug 15, 2008I installed a pair of VisionTek 4870's in Crossfire on my Rampage Formula X48 Motherboard. I have a 750W power supply, so I don't think that's the issue. Everything was working great with my old Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS, but I wasn't getting the framerates on my 1920x1200 monitor. The problem seems to happen when I'm playing games (like Warhammer Online, Mass Effect, or even older ones like Dawn of War 40K) it crashes my system. I've checked my NB temperatures and they're around 58-60 Celcius (seems a bit hot). Does anyone know what I might be able to try to fix this instability? I read somewhere that I could increase the PCI-E voltage, but I'm not sure.

I connected the usb dongle and the computer recognize it without any problem. What I need to do to pair the mouse with my computer? I turned on the bluetooth on my cell phone an it found the mouse. So it means that the mouse is working properly.

Dec 2, 2009Ive just formatted my hard drive and got a new graphics card -ATI 4870. When I try to run a game, using 'steam' it tries to install directx before failing, so I found the download myself and tried, it failed. The error said: 'INTERNAL SYSTEM ERROR OCCURRED refer to DxError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem.' So what any ideas, I need directx but I cant have directx. Wasnt sure if this post should go in here, gaming or graphics card. I figured here as its more a software issue.

Sep 22, 2009Until today, this mouse was working nearly perfectly. There was one incident when the mouse stopped working with my computer, and after a restart, it was fine. However, today it stopped working, and I restarted my computer only to find that my computer was now asking for a pairing number when I tried to connect the mouse. I have no clue what this mouse's pairing number is or why I would need it when it was working just fine earlier without one. I checked the bottom of the mouse to see if I could find a pairing number, but nothing was to be found, and I do not have the box or the items that came with the mouse.
How do I connect my mouse? Note: The mouse shows up when I search for bluetooth devices, but the problem arises from the fact that my computer now asks for a pairing number to connect the device, a number I do not have. In addition, it was working just fine earlier today, so I do not believe it is a software issue. If anyone could shed any light on this situation, I would be grateful. I'm at a loss of what to do.

Apr 12, 2009i have a 3870x2 and i'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit with 2gb of ram.
No matter what program i run, even programs i KNOW are supposed to use more than 1 gpu core, nothing puts any kind of load (not even a little blip for a second) on the second core.
I've tried crysis, Fallout 3, 3dmark 2003 & 2006. I'm using rivatuner hardware monitoring, and even tried 2 copies of gpu-z.
I'm using 2 monitors in dualview and have the monitor programs on the right screen so i can watch while a fullscreen 3d application runs on the other.
Does anyone know about a way to resolve this? It might be a crossfire issues, as these cards DO use crossfire, although it's hard-set to always-enable in the hardware.
So far i've found some info through googling and installed patches manually: KB936710, KB929777, KB938194, KB938979, KB940105, KB945149
I had service pack 1 installed, but it wasn't giving utilization on the second gpu core, no load at all, so i de-installed it just to manually force these patches in... thinking maybe microsoft claims they're included in Sp1 but maybe they're not, but now it's still not resolved it so... i don't know I can't find any posts about this on the internet so far...
other specs: Intel Q6600 @ 3814mhz, patriot extreme performance ddr2-1066 @ 1140mhz (1x2gb) Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 motherboard, using two WD hard drives (7200 rpm, sata-2, 32mb buffer, 500gb) in raid-0 using the onboard raid chip (not the southbridge, the other one)..

May 29, 2009A co-worker just told me that if I add a second ATI HD4850 card to my Gateway FX6800-01e computer, and crossfire them, I will loose my current dual monitor mode. In other words, he says that crossfire allows only for one monitor! Is this a correct statement?

Aug 5, 2008I know that they are planning to release the GTX200 series on a new 55nm Fab. and that they will probably release a GTX260b and 280b. or some people are saying a 300 and 320. or something like that.
So does anyone have some links, or good info, other than some 1 liners saying that NV is planning to make them. Like any release dates. or what not. I've heard that they are going to silently release them RIGHT after ATI releases there new 4870x2 and they are going to drop some "Good" new 55nm cards that will be very competitive yet single card solution.
the 4870x2 is supposed to be out August 12-13th give or take. So hopefully we see some NV Green soon after that. or the next day would sure rain on there parade.

Oct 3, 2009Can Vista support more than 1 GPU driver? I am running Vista Ult 64. Looking to upgrade to Windows 7. I previously had an Nvidia 8800GT as my primary graphics card and also had an 8500GT installed as well on my dual boot XP/Vista PC. They worked fine and the computer recognized both correclty on both OS's I think I didn't have any trouble b/c as I found it all 8 series cards use the same driver. I bought a new primary GPU, a ATi Sapphire 4870 1GB Toxic. I am NOT trying to run SLI or Crossfire, I need availability for 3+ monitors. Can I have two completely different video drivers? I was under the impression NO, but a computer parts guy said I can install an Nvidia & ATi driver as long as I do not install the supplemental software.

May 12, 2010I got an ASUS M51 laptop 2 years ago with Vista Ultimate 32. I felt pretty good about the machine, until I connected a second LCD monitor with DVI connection. Connecting with VGA port had no crash problem, but I prefer using DVI with a HDMI/DVI cable. Using non-Aero theme had no problem.
Occasionally the system reported graphic card driver crashed and tried to recover. Sometimes the system recovered, more often not, leading to total crashing of Windows.
Surely I did the following:
1. Reinstall the latest graphic drivers.
2. Reinstall the latest ASUS splendid utilities.
3. Keep Windows patches updated.
4. Install and uninstall some Windows hot fixes, as suggested by some newsgroups' posts.
5. Many other methods.
None worked. So I gave up Aero for almost a year. Until I read a post when searching for answer about mysterious disappearing of desktop icons when the desktop is refreshing sometimes. The post had the finger pointed to Power4Gear eXtreme. For some reasons, the default settings of Miscellaneous power settings of the Quite Office profile will hide desktop icons. After changing the setting to No, the desktop icons stay still forever. And the Windows graphic driver crashing occurred less often.
As the crashing still happened, so I uninstalled ASUS Splendid utilities. And crashing of graphic driver never come back.

Apr 22, 2010installed this yesterday in cpu and vista x64 home premieum didnt detect it.. the odd thing was i put install cd in and it gave me this error message no xfx product found go online for the latest driver.. that didnt work i downloaded the latest driver for vista x64 and when it oipened it said it wouldnt run because that card wasn't found...i checked my device manager and it showed no display adapter like before when my radeon graphics card was in.. i had my monitor plugged in to it i had a pic albeit not crystal clear but yet windows didnt detect it.. i also went into the bios to make sure that pci express was checked.. i know it was installed properly wondering what the deal is... would really like to get a better graphics card in with cuda aceleration...

Mar 25, 2008I purchased a HP Laptop with Vista and have had an HP Printer. After 17-documented hours with HP Tech Support and now my 3rd Replacement Printer, It still doesn't work right. After working properly for a "few days" it is now only printing partial pages. Printing will omit some text but prints other parts. I have been told by HP that its a WINDOWS problem/bug that they won't fix. I was told the configuration in the Operating System via the Rediscovery Service through Administrative Tools would require a computer person to fix it. Their tech. support supposedly did that with me (took 2 hours) and he promised my problem was solved. I am now experiencing the same problem. HP blames Windows and Windows Blames HP. I work from home and I need my printer to work. Often times, the printer shows offline and won't print at all. You'd think 2 HP Products would work seemlessly together. Fraid not. Any solutions? I have installed and reinstalled the original cd for the printer and that temporarily cures the problem. There has to be a glitch somewhere.

Mine keeps cutting out randomly, I think iTunes may be the most guilty (usually happens whenever I stop/pause then resume my sound dies). Before the patch I figured out a way to get around it about 75% of the time, I would just close iTunes and any sound/media based program and re-launch them and it would work again. Mar 23, 2008My college aged daughter's laptop formerly worked fine but now has odd networking issues which prevent the system from browsing the internet. The system correctly obtains a DHCP address and is able to ping by name, can correctly run AIM and Microsoft Sidebar but still can not connect the IE7.0 Browser to the internet.
I have read a ton of links here within the Network and Sharing group but I haven't seen anything quite like this before. Even though the I know better, I still went through the exercise of testing for DNS issues as well as the often suggested MTU test but there weren't any issues. I have completely shut off the Microsoft Firewall to no avail. The system came with a free trial of Norton Internet Security but after it expired, I loaded a Symantec/Norton Antivirus (NAV 10.1) and did a complete virus scan which produced nothing. I also did a full spyware scan which also didn't locate any serious malware......
Wireless Not Working. Wireless Network Detection Has Stopped Working
Apr 11, 2009I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.
