Graphics Cards Can Not Work As Crossfire
Dec 30, 2009
I have 2 Radeon x1950 graphics cards on my A8N32-SLI DELUXE motherboard and cant get them to work as crossfire. Tried many things but was wondering if it was because I'm running windows x64 version of Vista Ultimate

I got MoBo ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium running Vista Ultimate 32bit on Core 2 Duo Processor. Recently I got another Graphic Card ATI Radeon X1900XTX 512MB PCI-e which I already have one. So, I plan to use the two X1900XTX cards on my system. I already checked the cards but found it has no connection to enable the so-called SLI bridge to connect the two cards.
1. Is there any way for me to use the 2 cards on my PC (crossfire/SLI)?
2. Does the crossfire dongle will make the 2 cards works?
3. Any new tech that enable crossfire with non-SLI cards?

I'm running:
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.73 GHz
3.5 GB RAM
ATI Raedeon Xpress 200M Chipset
Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit
I have recently installed a ATI Radeon HD 4670 into my computer, I downloaded the latest ATI Catalyst driver from the ATI website and it installed the latest driver for both of the video cards, after it restarted I get this error message in the device manager for the ATI Radeon HD 4670:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)
I checked in the device manager and it says it has the same wddm driver version for both devices, I have tried installing many times but it continues to presist, is this a Windows Vista or ATI issue? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Running Windows Vista Ult and i installed a second graphics card to run 3 monitors.
The problem is device manager doesn't show the second installed graphics card.
My System:
E6850
GA-x38-DQ6 MoBo
4Gb ram
8800 Ultra
7600GT (This is the card i added)
Basically it recognizes the 8800 Ultra only. I have read that to use dual cards with Vista they need to use the same drivers (169.25), which they do. Even if that wasn't the case shouldn't the graphics card show in device manager regardless?
Is there something about Vista and dual graphics that i am missing?
The 7600GT functions fine, (tested in another computer) so i am at a loss here.

What have forum members found to be the fastest, highest quality half-height PCI-Express, DirectX 10 graphics card? I've currently got an ATI x1300 Pro (256Mb) but would like something that has DirectX10 support and has more and faster memory.

Anybody know if the ATI Radeon HD3650 PCI-E will fit into the Inspiron 531s ? I would probably have to find a better power supply of course. If not, does anyone know any good graphics cards that would fit?

Currently Windows Vista does not have WDDM support for the Intel GMA950 integrated graphics card. Even though this card is integrated, it supports all of the requirements for Vista Glass. It is just a matter of getting a driver that is compatible with it and vista.
After doing a ton of research, I found that there is another driver that you can actually use for now. There are some problems with it, such if you have a laptop, the external monitor port does not always work but other than that it works great for me on my Lenovo X60.
This is how I got Vista Glass to run on a GMA950:
First, I had to open up device manager. Click on the start menu and type in devmgmt.msc and Enter to load it up.
Once there, expand the Display Adapters section and right click on each device and select Uninstall.
Reboot the computer.
When it restarts, it should install a generic video driver so your screen will still work.
Go back into Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section again and then right click on the device and select Update Driver.
This time select Browse My Computer for Driver and then Let me pick it from a list.
Go the the Intel section and select the Intel(R) Lakeport Graphics Controller.
Hit OK and install the new driver. Restart your computer.
Once you have rebooted, right click on your desktop and select Personalize again.
Click on Windows Colors and Appearance.
Click on Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
In the Color Scheme box, select Windows Vista Aero.
Hit OK and glass will now load.
If glass does not work for you, go back to Device Manager and ...

It started out small, the one graphics card, PSU, Plenty of slots to upgrade the motherboard, a decent sound card, an O.Clockable CPU, decent DDR3 Ram, and plenty of space to upgrade. See System Specs. So my Dilemma is this.... I have a Single GTX 280 (cost me $860 AUD {Australian Dollar} when this first came out [btw our exchange rate was pretty close to the US one at the time -right before wall street crashed, so equivalent of $750 US roughly - I know a wrought, aye, and the HD4870X2 comes out a week later, I was furious])
Anyway I have a 790i Ultra SLI motherboard (as we all know can house 3 Nvidia VGA's)
I was tempted to get 2 GTX280's and then a GTX275(to do physx calculations - if you know anything about Tri-SLI this actually is FASTER than 3 GTX280's in a TRI-SLI configuration), GTX 280's arent sold in Australia anymore and GTX 285's are... so do you guys reckon I should upgrade? or wait for DX11 cards to come out, build another system and let my girlfriend use this one (she loves gaming too, arent I a lucky *******)
Im looking into the future..., wait!... I see something... its a... a core i7 975 overclocked to 5.5Ghz stable... the next Gen graphics cards from ATI hooked up in Xfire (which WILL kill Nvidia this round -GPU die shrink, Nvidia are focussing their technology on copying Intel's Larrabee, which doesnt seem to be going too well for them, because its all about chips and Nvidia cant Die-shrink even if we gave them millions to do so)..... Im seeing a 1200 Watt PSU, 2x (2560x1200) monitors, a monitor on the Case, Liquid cooling, 24GB DDR3 2000Mhz, and 2 SSD's in Raid, with others complimenting it... Lastly no Price Tag....

I have a 2 year old XFX GeForce 8600 GT PCIE 16X that Im trying to install in a new computer with vista 64 and on board ATI radeon HD 3200. The first couple times i tried it, after install, i got no graphics at all, until i removed the card. After going into the BIOS, and changing the "displayPort Config" from Auto to Enabled, the on board graphics would work with the card installed, but not the card graphics. When i try to load the supplied drivers I get this message "The VGA detected seems not XFX's product. please go to nvidia.com to get the driver for the other NVIDIA VGA."
I dont understand that, but i then downloaded updated drivers from Nvidia, but when i try to install them, i get an assortment of error messages, including "The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware", "you are running a 32bit version of nvidia uninstaller on a 64bit system", "setup detected the operating system in use is not windows vista 64bit" these errors seem to contradict themselves.
Is it possible this card is not compatible with the computer? The card may be bad, as my old PC lost graphics, but the geek squad (a bunch of morons by the way) swapped cards and still no graphics and said my MoBo was bad, so i just got new PC, but woudl like to use this card , as I assume its better than the included built in graphics. Going into the MoBo users guide, it doesnt cover switching from on-board graphics to PCI slot, other than describing how to configure the BIOS settings for the graphics card to support ATI Hybrid CrossFireX. I tried that, but it didnt seem to do anything either. im guessing the ATI contol center software doesnt show the enable CrossFire option without a CrossFire compatible card installed, or i didnt install the drivers correctly for that function.

Seen in the capture below, the video card is showing as a 1.0, while I expected at least 5.0...the only place this shows to be a problem is while playing halo 2, the game plays choppy to the point where it is almost unplayable. This is odd however, because it seems to do fine in Dawn of war, DDO, and tribes vengeance. I ran a benching program and the card did fine, fps of 280 something, but vista can't seem to sort itself. We are about to get borderlands for this pc, so we wanted to get this problem fixed first. So far I have installed and reinstalled the newest nvidia graphics drivers, mobo bios, and chipset drivers, and this has me just about stumped. the computer to recognize and use the graphics card? Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 43.

I have just finished a new build on a GAX48DQ6 mainboard, Q8450 (quad core) 8GB RAM and an Asus version of the 9600GT. Having installed the board drivers and latest NVidia graphics drivers my performance index is 1 - based on the graphics card (everything else is 5.9 except the boot drive which is 5.5). I have re-calculated it about 6 times because I couldn't believe it. Does the performance index not work in Vista 64, this card (with the same version drivers) scores 5.9 in Vista 32. I don't particularly care about the performance index, unless it is indicating a problem.

i have a 3870x2 and i'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit with 2gb of ram.
No matter what program i run, even programs i KNOW are supposed to use more than 1 gpu core, nothing puts any kind of load (not even a little blip for a second) on the second core.
I've tried crysis, Fallout 3, 3dmark 2003 & 2006. I'm using rivatuner hardware monitoring, and even tried 2 copies of gpu-z.
I'm using 2 monitors in dualview and have the monitor programs on the right screen so i can watch while a fullscreen 3d application runs on the other.
Does anyone know about a way to resolve this? It might be a crossfire issues, as these cards DO use crossfire, although it's hard-set to always-enable in the hardware.
So far i've found some info through googling and installed patches manually: KB936710, KB929777, KB938194, KB938979, KB940105, KB945149
I had service pack 1 installed, but it wasn't giving utilization on the second gpu core, no load at all, so i de-installed it just to manually force these patches in... thinking maybe microsoft claims they're included in Sp1 but maybe they're not, but now it's still not resolved it so... i don't know I can't find any posts about this on the internet so far...
other specs: Intel Q6600 @ 3814mhz, patriot extreme performance ddr2-1066 @ 1140mhz (1x2gb) Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 motherboard, using two WD hard drives (7200 rpm, sata-2, 32mb buffer, 500gb) in raid-0 using the onboard raid chip (not the southbridge, the other one)..

A co-worker just told me that if I add a second ATI HD4850 card to my Gateway FX6800-01e computer, and crossfire them, I will loose my current dual monitor mode. In other words, he says that crossfire allows only for one monitor! Is this a correct statement?

Can Vista support more than 1 GPU driver? I am running Vista Ult 64. Looking to upgrade to Windows 7. I previously had an Nvidia 8800GT as my primary graphics card and also had an 8500GT installed as well on my dual boot XP/Vista PC. They worked fine and the computer recognized both correclty on both OS's I think I didn't have any trouble b/c as I found it all 8 series cards use the same driver. I bought a new primary GPU, a ATi Sapphire 4870 1GB Toxic. I am NOT trying to run SLI or Crossfire, I need availability for 3+ monitors. Can I have two completely different video drivers? I was under the impression NO, but a computer parts guy said I can install an Nvidia & ATi driver as long as I do not install the supplemental software.

I installed a pair of VisionTek 4870's in Crossfire on my Rampage Formula X48 Motherboard. I have a 750W power supply, so I don't think that's the issue. Everything was working great with my old Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS, but I wasn't getting the framerates on my 1920x1200 monitor. The problem seems to happen when I'm playing games (like Warhammer Online, Mass Effect, or even older ones like Dawn of War 40K) it crashes my system. I've checked my NB temperatures and they're around 58-60 Celcius (seems a bit hot). Does anyone know what I might be able to try to fix this instability? I read somewhere that I could increase the PCI-E voltage, but I'm not sure.

When i upgraded my windows xp to vista about 5 days ago it somehow screwed up my computer. My graphics are so bad that i can't play simple games and i know that my graphics card used to work perfectly. I just need to know if it is vista that has changed my graphics card and if it did how can i fix it. Also for Hardware Acceleration, i can not turn it on because i do not have the troubleshoot option in my display settings. My nero will not burn any dvd disc's due to that.

I know this probably isn't the correct newsgroup for this question, but here goes. How do you use an SD Card?
I have just bought a new one and used it in a camera. The camera confirms that there are saved photos on the card but when I connect it to the SD slot on the computer nothing seems to happen. I do notice a green light appears next to the slot on the computer as if it is reading something, but, having left it for 10 mins, nothing else has happened.

My video card was acting up so I decided to purchase a BFG GTX 275 896mb GDDR3 and picked up a 900w power supply.
