Enable Detailed Logon, Logoff And Shutdown Status Messages
Dec 11, 2007
Instead of showing the default logon, logoff and shutdown status messages you can enable detailed messages that will tell you exactly what is going on. Wondering what is taking your logon so long? With detailed messages turned on you will see messages like Processing group policy and other specific tasks Windows Vista is executing.
To enable detailed status messages on your computer, follow these steps: ....
A friend of mine has a computer just like mine. HP, dual processors, 500 gig HD and when he logs on a voice greets him with good morning/evening and his name. when he logs off the same voice says goodby. Someone else set up his computer and he doesn't know how the guy did it. I would like to set mine up the same way. How do I do it? I know it can be done. He uses MSN and Quest. I use MSN and Comcast. Is this a Quest thing?
i have a windows vista 64 bit desktop pc and i here theres no power options for the desktop pc's so is there any other way i can set my pc to hibernate/shutdown/logoff etc etc after a certain time?
I was trying to find the registry value in Vista where you can change the option from shutdown to logoff. By default Vista remember the last option you have chosen and I would like to change that when a user logs in.
Microsoft has removed the classic Windows NT style logon screen in Windows Vista. You can no longer hit CTRL+ALT+Delete to get to a logon box where you can type in the username and password. Instead you have to enable the alternative logon screen to restore this capability.
Click on the Start Button, key in secpol.msc and hit Enter.
Navigate through Local Policies and Security Options.
Locate and right click on "Interactive logon: Do not display last user name" and select Properties.....
I have read elsewhere of some users experiencing the problem of hard disks making the infamous clicking noises on shutdown of any version of vista. I don't know if its only SATA HD but thats what I have and I am experiencing the same thing. It has me concerned that the clicking of the HD arms might be unnecessary wear and tear. any fixes for this?
Running Vista64 on HP pavillion. Wireless connects great after gigaset se567 is rebooted. But if I logoff or reboot my computer, I can no longer connect until I reboot the router again. Happens if wireless is lost as well. Is an autoconnection to a non-broadcast SSID. if I manually disconnect and wait a min I can manually reconnect. Have done an ipcongif /all at one point and it showed all proper IP's etc, but I could not connect to any websites. Local access only.
I am hating Vista right now...I bought a computer from Frys and I brougt it home and it connected to the internet just fine. Sometime later it decided to lose sight of the network altogether. I have vista 32bit. My video card is an nVidia nForce Networking Controller. The driver currently on there is nvm60x32.sys. After doing some google searching I have found that I am not the only idiot who decided to try vista out and is having the same problem.
I used to have a Network Icon in the RH Tray, with a blue mark to show the Internet connection was up and running. All of a sudden it showed a red cross, yet the internet connection was still OK. Yesterday the icon disappeared altogether and I can't see how to get it back! It is not one of the hidden icons.
I subscribe to a stationery group within my Vista windows mail. Often they have in their newsgroup post a "message ticker" that runs a message across the status bar like "have a great day". Windows Mail's 'status bar' only displays how many messages I have, how many messages are unread and how many messages not downloaded. How do I get my status bar to display the poster's message ticker when I open their stationery post that is using a message ticker?
I've just had a look at the "update history" section in Vista, and there are numerous updates with a status of "Failed". Can anyone advise on why they have failed, when others have gone in, and also what I can do to correct the situation?
Are you a user of Windows Vista Enterprise or Business edition and would like to know the status of activation of a specific computer? Want to make sure that the computer connected properly to the Key Management Server (KMS) or used your Multiple Activation Key (MAK) properly? Or are you a home user and just want to make sure your computer is fully activated?
Included in Windows Vista is very useful utility that will help you check the status of activation of your computer:
Click on the Start Button and key in CMD and hit Enter to start up Command Prompt....
Is there a way to perform an analysis of the fragmentation level of a drive in Vista Home Premium? I miss being able to see a graphic representation of a disk's fragmentation. Also, previous versions of Windows provided the user a progress bar than informed them of the status of the defrag program when it was running. It appears that Home Premium runs in the background and one never gets a "defragmentation complete" dialog box with options to see a report. I've tried running it manually and not closing the Run dialog box, but it seems to run for hours without any feedback to the user.
i have sony vgn fw-140d ,when I turn on the laptop ,it doesn't want to boot,it is giving me this error 0xc000014c status.I try to go in command prompt but it doesn't let me .Went to a BIOS trying to reinstall Windows again -doesn't work.I got the impression that the hard drive works. Where can be the problem, how can I reformat the hard drive(I can go farther than BIOS)
On my Acer lapto, vista battery status shows it is 100% charged, but only 30 minutes working time remains. The working mode has been set to 'balanced', but even changing it to 'power save' it only gains a couple of minutes.
I have my laptop for almost a year. Is it normal that the battery practically used up within a year? Or is perhaps something else wrong here? In the beginning it could almost last 3 hours. But with only 30 minutes you can't get any work done.
Before installing Vista, I tought of making a backup on a second internal hard disk which a bought and installed on the original XP professional machine, I found myself to be very smart doing this. Unfortunatly now that Vista is installed on this machine the disk is not accessible. disk manager says "dynamic disk status invalid"? What can/should I do to gain control over this disk again? I can convert it to a standard disk (only option available in disk manager) beause then I will loos the information it contains.
1. How do I get certain windows in Vista to open to a different size? For example, I want the Uninstall or change a program window to open a little wider so I can see everything on each installed program line.
2. In my "Review your update history " window I have a Canceled status many Failed statuses from over 2 years ago to now. I only want the Successful updates attempts, how do I delete the others?
I use Windows Mail to read news groups only. I have noticed that the status bar of Win Mail not longer shows the number of messages downloaded and the number of messages unread. This only occur in the MS news groups. Other NG's display normally. How can I get the info back in the MS NG's? PS: I hope I explained this properly Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 - 32 Bit
I wanted to return my Status Bar inside Folder to it's default like in this picture but I do not know how and I been searching allot of threads to figure this out: [image:] how to return it to that specific Status Bar? I tried reseting to the default with no luck.
I have this printer from some years and I'm happy with it. Now the problem is with Win Vista. There is not a specific drive for this Printer under Vista. The printer print ok, no problem for this, the problem is the Printer Monitor that can not see the inks status. So I can not know if a cartridge is out of ink. Tried to contact Espon for new driver but no chance.
Started up the computer this morning and everything is enlarged - have tried to change screen resolution and it doesn't change my problem everything just gets distorted. Actual internet page views normally But Task Bar and Task Bar Icons are huge as well as all other bars!
it only has 'task status' on top and 'end task/switch to/new task' on bottom, if i Right Click on the tool bar icon i get 'close/always on top' no other functions. how do i get the old display back, and how'd this happen to begin with i did a restore to an earlier date. the good box came up, but after i deleted the ASUS crap off it this one returned.
I am building a brand new system and bit the bullet and am attempting to install Vista Ultimate 64 with SP1 (Brand Spanking New DVD with SP1 on it). Everything boots up just fine, memory is okay (4 Gb), install runs fine and after the reboot, I get the following: File: Windowssystem32toskrnl.exe
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt. (I purchased all parts and software from Newegg) When I go to the MS Support site and put in the Product Key, it tells me that it's in an invalid format. 5 - 5 - 5 - etc is what I have, however, Microsoft is wanting 5 - 3 - 5 -etc. format. I have pulled out EVERYTHING and disconnected EVERYTHING except the DVD, HD, and vid card, so I'm running it as barebones as I can.
I recently restarted my computer and the following error message appeared. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Instert your windows installation disk and resart your computer. 2. Choose your language settings and then click "Next." 3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you don not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: BootBcd
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
I have followed all the instructions to no avail. I also entered the command eature and attempted to rebulid the bcd but it gives the error message "the requested system device cannot be found." I have a lot information on the hard drive so i would really like to be able to fix it without loosing any of the information.
Tried to restore to my Toshiba Equium laptop to factory settings. It started to format the disk and then Blue screened. Now it wont even boot. Error message I get is :- "windows failed to start........" File windowssystem32winload.exe status: 0xc000000f
I dont have a Vista disk (never had one) so downloaded the Vista boot repair disk. Tried the repair option on here and fixboot from the command line but still no joy.

my Recycle Bin does not update its icon status, i.e. when I delete something I always have to press F5 to "refresh" the icons to get the correct icon of the "full" bin displayed; and when I empty the recycle bin, the same thing happens. What seems to be the problem here? Is there a icon cache file somewhere that I have to delete?
I have a Asus K8V-MX/S motherboard and it is nearly impossible to find bios updates for it with an old 20 gb ide hdd and a new tb samsung sata hdd. Currently the 20 gb has my vista home premium on it and is close to being full and I can't load in additional programs like office etc.. I have been not been able to load vista directly to the sata because vista won't recognize the drive because it is attached to a sata pci controller because my mb can't find the hdd either.
I have tried several cloning programs to get the vista cloned on to the new sata but that has turned out to be unsuccessful. I remember one program, XXClone, telling me that ntldr and netdetect.com files couldn't be found to make it bootable. What options do I have at this point?
