Started up the computer this morning and everything is enlarged - have tried to change screen resolution and it doesn't change my problem everything just gets distorted. Actual internet page views normally But Task Bar and Task Bar Icons are huge as well as all other bars!
View 4 Repliesit only has 'task status' on top and 'end task/switch to/new task' on bottom, if i Right Click on the tool bar icon i get 'close/always on top' no other functions. how do i get the old display back, and how'd this happen to begin with i did a restore to an earlier date. the good box came up, but after i deleted the ASUS crap off it this one returned.

I do see the clock & date, normally under that i saw for example the icon for external drives, processes, my virus scanner, etc. but they are gone now.
First my taskmanager was disabled, but i got it to work with the tutorial here on the forum. But still no icons.
Is there anyone that could help me getting back my icons?
I installed vista ultimate x64. It installed and ran with no issues. I then went and got all the updates. Now I have to log in twice. The first time I login I have no icons, and no task bar. The applications that are set to run at startup when I login do start up. I can bring up task manager. If I log out and log right back in then everything is there.
When I log out just before it go back to the login screen it looks like my desktop with everyting on it pops up just before being replaced with the login screen.
When I power on my ASUS laptop, the desk top background changes, the task bar settings are reset to automatically hide, and the desk top icons disappear. I can go in and change the taskbar setting and change the background back, and I right click on the desktop to remove and then reset the check mark the "Show Desktop Icons" under the view option and I can continue along my merry way. But when I shut down and power back on, everything disappears again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI drag program icons to quick launch taskbar and they are the usual icon only smaller. the big blue W for word though turns into some nondescript thing. anyway to get the big blue W? also I dragged some folders like documents, etc and they all look the same (little tiny folders). anyway to visually differentiate them> I know one can mouse over and see what they are, but perhaps there is a way to use text?sure is nice to have a completely icon free desktop now.

What key strokes can I use to bring this back to normal? I have tried the zoom level at the lower right hand corner of the page, but the main part of the screen is still way too large.

The scheduler history states it started, action completed with an error code 16 (don't know what this means) and task successfully completed? But I do not think it is actually executing the bat file.

It repeats 4 time when i click OK and is followed by 4 of "an error has occurred for task MCVregistrationReminder4 Error message the specified name is not vailid". And finally by "an error occurred for task reminders - username Error message the specified account name is not valid"

all my desktop icons got suddenly changed to internet explorer icons,after (i opened some program in the internet,) then i did some personalisation then it changed to my adobe photoshop icon, all the desktop icons now shows the adobe,,icons.like all my programs which was earlier like (yahoo msngr, msn mesengr,windows vista programs,almost all other programs) and my internet wireless stopped working. i have a vista home premium 32. and my comp is asus f3t series. i was trying to do the icon cache, but couldnt find. tried restarting but couldnt solve.now trying to run my antivirus scan Mcafee. if anybody knows the solution to restore my earlier icons.

Now they don't display anything except a flower, house, ect. My question is: How do I change the picture icon setting back so I can see a tiny preview thingy for each icon, instead of having to click on each one to see what they really are?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDesktop icons overwritten. After a recent automatic update it appears my desktop icons have two icons on top of each other. Visible on top is the "default" icon and slightly visible underneath is the original icon. I use Firefox and Vista Ultimate 32.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA Vista SP1 Home Premium problem - 9 live icons covering 9 dead icons: Several days ago I had a desktop with 9 live, working icons at the bottom of the desktop. ie: recycle bin, computer, network, control panel, etc. The 9th icon was a folder called 'powershell'.
Several days ago I deleted the 'powershell' folder, and, underneath that folder, was surprised to find a dead copy of the 'powershell' folder. The deleted 'powershell' folder was in the recycle bin, and an undeleted dead copy on the desktop. This dead copy cannot be accessed with selection, left-click, or right-click operations - so the 'Properties' info cannot be displayed.........
Everytime I restart my PC, my desktop icons go where ever they want each time. What is causing this and is their a way to lock the icons in place?

Sometime later it decided to lose sight of the network altogether. I have vista 32bit. My video card is an nVidia nForce Networking Controller. The driver currently on there is nvm60x32.sys. After doing some google searching I have found that I am not the only idiot who decided to try vista out and is having the same problem.

Windows Mail's 'status bar' only displays how many messages I have, how many messages are unread and how many messages not downloaded. Is there a way to perform an analysis of the fragmentation level of a drive in Vista Home Premium? I miss being able to see a graphic representation of a disk's fragmentation. Also, previous versions of Windows provided the user a progress bar than informed them of the status of the defrag program when it was running. It appears that Home Premium runs in the background and one never gets a "defragmentation complete" dialog box with options to see a report. I've tried running it manually and not closing the Run dialog box, but it seems to run for hours without any feedback to the user.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my Acer lapto, vista battery status shows it is 100% charged, but only 30 minutes working time remains. The working mode has been set to 'balanced', but even changing it to 'power save' it only gains a couple of minutes.
I have my laptop for almost a year. Is it normal that the battery practically used up within a year? Or is perhaps something else wrong here? In the beginning it could almost last 3 hours. But with only 30 minutes you can't get any work done.
Before installing Vista, I tought of making a backup on a second internal hard disk which a bought and installed on the original XP professional machine, I found myself to be very smart doing this. Unfortunatly now that Vista is installed on this machine the disk is not accessible. disk manager says "dynamic disk status invalid"? What can/should I do to gain control over this disk again? I can convert it to a standard disk (only option available in disk manager) beause then I will loos the information it contains.

The printer print ok, no problem for this, the problem is the Printer Monitor that can not see the inks status. So I can not know if a cartridge is out of ink. Tried to contact Espon for new driver but no chance.

Everything boots up just fine, memory is okay (4 Gb), install runs fine and after the reboot, I get the following: File: Windowssystem32toskrnl.exe

(I purchased all parts and software from Newegg) When I go to the MS Support site and put in the Product Key, it tells me that it's in an invalid format. 5 - 5 - 5 - etc is what I have, however, Microsoft is wanting 5 - 3 - 5 -etc. format. I have pulled out EVERYTHING and disconnected EVERYTHING except the DVD, HD, and vid card, so I'm running it as barebones as I can.

I have followed all the instructions to no avail. I also entered the command eature and attempted to rebulid the bcd but it gives the error message "the requested system device cannot be found." I have a lot information on the hard drive so i would really like to be able to fix it without loosing any of the information.
Tried to restore to my Toshiba Equium laptop to factory settings. It started to format the disk and then Blue screened. Now it wont even boot. Error message I get is :- "windows failed to start........" File windowssystem32winload.exe status: 0xc000000f
I dont have a Vista disk (never had one) so downloaded the Vista boot repair disk. Tried the repair option on here and fixboot from the command line but still no joy.
