1. How do I get certain windows in Vista to open to a different size? For example, I want the Uninstall or change a program window to open a little wider so I can see everything on each installed program line.
2. In my "Review your update history " window I have a Canceled status many Failed statuses from over 2 years ago to now. I only want the Successful updates attempts, how do I delete the others?
In windows mail, when selecting new stationery, a small applet would allow you to choose.
Something has changed on my m/c as now that applet opens in full screen, with no means of resizing the window.
I subscribe to a stationery group within my Vista windows mail. Often they have in their newsgroup post a "message ticker" that runs a message across the status bar like "have a great day". Windows Mail's 'status bar' only displays how many messages I have, how many messages are unread and how many messages not downloaded. How do I get my status bar to display the poster's message ticker when I open their stationery post that is using a message ticker?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am building a brand new system and bit the bullet and am attempting to install Vista Ultimate 64 with SP1 (Brand Spanking New DVD with SP1 on it). Everything boots up just fine, memory is okay (4 Gb), install runs fine and after the reboot, I get the following: File: Windowssystem32toskrnl.exe

(I purchased all parts and software from Newegg) When I go to the MS Support site and put in the Product Key, it tells me that it's in an invalid format. 5 - 5 - 5 - etc is what I have, however, Microsoft is wanting 5 - 3 - 5 -etc. format. I have pulled out EVERYTHING and disconnected EVERYTHING except the DVD, HD, and vid card, so I'm running it as barebones as I can.
I recently restarted my computer and the following error message appeared. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Instert your windows installation disk and resart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

I have followed all the instructions to no avail. I also entered the command eature and attempted to rebulid the bcd but it gives the error message "the requested system device cannot be found." I have a lot information on the hard drive so i would really like to be able to fix it without loosing any of the information.
Tried to restore to my Toshiba Equium laptop to factory settings. It started to format the disk and then Blue screened. Now it wont even boot. Error message I get is :- "windows failed to start........" File windowssystem32winload.exe status: 0xc000000f
I dont have a Vista disk (never had one) so downloaded the Vista boot repair disk. Tried the repair option on here and fixboot from the command line but still no joy.

I have just been reading previous solutions to this problem and understand it is to do with HP. Unfortunately I do not have a disc to insert as I have changed from XP to Vista and the CD I received with my HP printer is for XP, I therefore downloaded the install of the printer from the HP website for Vista. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this annoying installation window that keeps popping up a million times?

I'm on using a widescreen monitor, with vista, it doesnt' resize the image to fit without stretching it. With XP, it would resize it while maintaining its proportions, but I can't seem to find a way to do that with vista.

When I scanned photos with XP on my HP1200 printer/scanner in Preview I could enlarge the photos. With Vista can't seem do that. Am I missing something here? I can scan in Paint or in Windows Photo Gallery, but in neither can I enlarge the photo.
The Taskbar is too wide resulting in part of the clock not being visible. how to resize top and bottom but does not mention sideways.Thinking this might be a need to resize the Desktop looked in Help but no joy there!

I couldn't find a way to resize the window so that the bottom edge was visible. (I had to close and restart Firefox and it was okay.) Was there a way to resize a window without dragging the edge or corner? I had no way to get to the edge. I right clicked on the title bar and selected Size.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSome of my Desktop items have been overlay with a generic icon, Yes I have been all over this site and tried everything possible to resolve it, yes i have googled it and tried everything there as well, resetting the iconcache, resizing the icons, changing resolutions, everything, changing the icons back to default, nothing. First here is a snip of my desktop notice that computer is okay, I added the network, control panel and my folder, to show that they are okay as well also my quick launch has nothing but generic icons My start menu is the same, its about 50% generic When i try to change the icon back manually through the properties I get this the only one that does not give me this problem is impulse, but it still has the generic icon overlaying it. Rosetta stone gives me the same problem but still has its normal icon underneath the generic ones the icons will change, but the overlay is still there this happened when i installed an intel temerature moniter, i uninstalled the program, still there, did a system restore,...................
View 7 Replies View Relatedthis is my first enquiry but probably not my last :-) To cut a long story short (as my wife turned off the PSU to the PC when I wrote the whole thing out last time) I have a tablet PC with no bootable CD/DVD or floppy. I managed to install my XP tablet on a new HD by PXE creating a dos and 2 other partitions. I then upgraded to my new Vista Ult. and almost everything seems OK. I will post Q's re the incompatibilities later.
The problem is I made the DOS partition too big, 20gb, and now need to resize it down to 3gb to recover 17gb more for Vista (total size of disk 80gb). I went into management console as usual and tried to resize the C: partition but the options are greyed out. Parttions are Dos C: 20gb, Vista D: 46gb, Install files E: 10gb
I see Windows 7 Home Premium has Windows Fax and Scan after deleting it from Vista HP.

I've found one of the folders which has a few that I have no use of, but still haven't located the other folder. I think there's at least 2, maybe? I'm thinking about downloading some new wallpapers and wanted to clear out some extra space. Also, when I get new wallpapers, can I add them directly to the Windows Wallpaper folder?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

I had Vista Ultimate x64 installed on my machines, and wanted to install the x86. But, when I tried to install the x86 after deleting the x64 version, I now get an error that says that "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation." I have reformatted the drive and all else that I can think of, but, it it continues to throw the error message. What should I do? I am sure that my system and hardware is sufficient to handle the Vista install, and I am trying to install to the same drive that I had the other installed to: Processor 2.00 gigahertz AMD 64 Opteron's (2 installed)

Sometime later it decided to lose sight of the network altogether. I have vista 32bit. My video card is an nVidia nForce Networking Controller. The driver currently on there is nvm60x32.sys. Is there a way to perform an analysis of the fragmentation level of a drive in Vista Home Premium? I miss being able to see a graphic representation of a disk's fragmentation. Also, previous versions of Windows provided the user a progress bar than informed them of the status of the defrag program when it was running. It appears that Home Premium runs in the background and one never gets a "defragmentation complete" dialog box with options to see a report. I've tried running it manually and not closing the Run dialog box, but it seems to run for hours without any feedback to the user.
