Doubleclicking A File, Crash The Program When Close

Feb 19, 2009

When I doubleclick a file it opens the associated program but does not load the file and will crash the program when I close it. Other file types work fine (*.xls, *.doc) when I doubleclick them. Any ideas what to look for here?

Task Manager Doesn't Close A Program

Apr 21, 2009

it appears as though my webcam (a Logitech QuickCam Communications Deluxe) is crashing my MSN whenever I try to use it. I'm unsure why, honestly, and it's incredibly annoying.

As a sort of aside: how come the Task Manager doesn't actually close a program / process / task when I tell it to? It seems like it thinks about it for a while then decides it knows more than I do.

Second, my machine hangs on restarts and shutdowns for some reason. I don't know why it does it because it seems to happen at random intervals. Is there some reason why this would be happening? XP was able to shut down without a problem so it stands to reason that Vista would be able to do that, too.

Adobe Photoshop CS3, 64-bit: Stopped Working And Then Sadly Asks To Close The Program

File Menu Open/close Not Working

Aug 25, 2009

Appologies in advance if I'm being too long winded or not providing enough detail (1st post). I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit (sp2) on an HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop. The issue I'm having is that the "XP style" File menu bar keeps randomly opening up and then closing whenever I have any Office product, IE, or the explorer open. I've never "turned on" this option so no clue why this started to do this a little over a week ago. Initailly I found that it got worse (more frequently opening/closing the menu bar) when I had my external hard drives (EHDs) connected but at this point it's near constant without them connected and it's locking up the programs so that I can't type or click on anything.

I've not installed any new software in months; and the only downloads I've taken/installed were files from trusted sites and several system updates. My 1st impression was either a virus or a system update conflict from either or both HP or Windows; the latter has not been an uncommon issue. My anitvirus is up-to-date & a complete scan turned up nothing, even on my EHDs. I've gone back twice using the restore points; the 2nd time going back over 2 weeks prior to the start of this issue. I'm out of ideas short of doing a complete reinstall from my back-up partition.

Ie8 Not Work: "close The Program Or Check Windows"

Aug 23, 2009

one of my client's have a problem with his IE8 he is running Vista Business SP2 and has IE8 on his computer. his problem is that everytime he opens IE8 a message comes up saying "close the program or check windows for a solution to the problem and then close the program" I am running adaware on his PC (one of my coworkers has done this before and removed some spyware, trojans etc.) I have reset IE8 in the tools/internet options/advanced and then reset, didnt do anything. The problem is when the error message pops up and you press on either option, it doesnt close IE8. and when you are on the desktop and IE8 is closed the message still pops up. I will run an antivirus soon too and I have also checked netstat. I fear a new hardcore virus for vista.

NVidia GeForce 8400 Gs - No More PDF File Crash

Dec 30, 2008

Vista 64 ultimate with dual NVidia 8400 GS, on 4 monitors, running non-SLI mode crashed when ever opening a PDF file.

Although the check from newer drivers indicated that the system already had the latest, I installed the latest drivers from NVidia website anyway. The driver installation package ran through without error, and requested a reboot. Curiously, Vista complained that the installation may not have been completed correctly. Ignoring the Vista warning message (what was I to do anyway?), I rebooted. After reboot I was able to open PDF file.

When I originally configured the system, I had attempted to operate my video in SLI mode. I could not get SLI to work with two cards/4 monitors. Ultimately, I configured in non-SLI mode. I now wonder, if trying out different configurations placed the video cards in an unstable configuration - which was cleared up when I reinstalled the drivers.

File Missing And Home Prem CRASH!

Feb 25, 2008

Installed Hitman game. When I attempted to start game, receieved error that a file was missing. From my memory, it was something like MSVLL771.dll (not accurate, but close). Vista prompted me that it could find the problem and then recommended a download. It was an update in the realm of Framework 1.1- something or other. After downloading and attempted implementation, Vista let me know this program was already on my PC. I did an internet search for the "missing" file and downloaded it specificly and placed in the game's file. The game now ran with no problem.

Yet, at the next boot up of PC it crashed to the "problem" screen. At this point I was able to use safe mode and attempt a recovery by going back to an earlier save point. Did this and reboot. Now PC crashes again and now will not start in any mode (safe, normal, safe with networking, etc) By not start, I mean I get past the prompt asking which mode to start, screen goes blank, no Vista load, just a cursor. The LED light seems to be processing, yet nothing happens from here. I placed Vista disk in to boot from it to Fix and Re-install, but this does not help. After a few steps it goes to a driver selection screen with no drivers available. Lets me browse, but I have no clue where to look for these?

Ultimate Crash: Failed Check The File System Integrity Check

Mar 26, 2008

Vista started giving a blue screen a couple of days ago. Mentioned something about a bad device, but no new devices have been added. Went through the typical steps, tried to boot in safe mode and got the following errors:

AtBroker.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Click OK.
Explorer.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Blue Screen

Then booted to my install dvd, tried to fix errors. Came back with a failed check at the file system integrity check. Ran the check a second time and no errors are found. Can't boot in safe mode, and when i try to repair errors I get no errors found.

When I click on one of these file types in any other context, the association works fine.

Best File Recovery Program

Nov 25, 2009

I need a good file recovery program that will run both under Vista and Win 7. It needs to be able to salvage files both deleted and those lost because of disc errors. It also needs to be able to work with both internal and external hard discs, and all flavors of CD and DVD. Any recommendations? Most of the ones that allow you to download a trial have crippled to trial so much that it's really hard to judge them. Incidentally, I ran the free Recuva on a DVD-RW; I started it at 12:30 PM and at 5:30 AM (17 hours later) it showed 89% complete, and at 8:00 it had stopped with the message "allocation error".

Moving To 64, Program File Directories

Sep 2, 2008

About a week or so ago, I decided to upgrade my PC to Windows Vista. I gave it awhile, mostly didn't want to deal with an upgrade and all that. System has been fine on XP for years...why mess with it. But having gotten a new video card, I just wanted to be current on my OS again. As it turns out, I like Vista alot and have had little to no trouble with it. If you look at my system config, nothing is more than a year old at most, so my computer, at least for my needs is still "current." Having tried and like Vista 32bit (Home Premium) I have decided to take the next step into 64bit and that's why I am here. My system is 64 bit compatible, so I figure it's time to take full advantage of it. I have important apps I use for school for 3D that have 64bit versions I've been wanting to try, and I have 2 Gigs of RAM coming today which will make my total 4 and 64bit is the only way I can utilize it all!

I'll probably be doing the format install sometime tonight, which finally brings me to why I posted. In my research of Vista 64, I have read some blurbs about it giving youo 2 program files, Program Files and Program Files x86 (Or something.) I've also read that in some cases it can be important to make sure you install a certain program to the right one. My system has 3 physical Hard drive, that I partitioned in several total for storage, windows, programs, games, and so on. My current Program Files is a 80GB Partition all by itself. It's a different physical drive than Windows is on. Will installing applications to this drive like I have always did cause me any trouble in this new Vista 64 bit I'm about to dive into? My system will definately have a mix of 32bit and 64bit apps, with more by far probably being 32bit. Also while I think to ask, will the Vista 64 install procedure allow me to just wipe the partition my OS is currently on? Or will going to 64 bit require me to wipe the entire physical HDD? The other partitions that share the Windows INstall Partition are just storage so I don't want to format them unless I need to.

Is this the open file? If it is how do I delete it?

Associations To Cd Rom Drive: File Does Not Have A Program Associated

Jul 13, 2009

I went to open a software disc that I just put in my drive and I moved to fast or something and clicked on the wrong option on the context menu and messed up the association to my cd/dvd rom drive. Now I cant get the drive to auto start and show the icon next to the cd drive letter. It also wont run if I double click on the drive.

I get an error that says: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. Now I have tried everything from exefix_vista.reg, inffix_vista.reg, exefix_cu.reg. I'm not new to computers, but this has me all messed up. I need to use that disc for school. I even tried putting a disc in for my router software and still get the same error. I don't know where to go from here. I've uninstalled my drive and drivers, I've checked with Vista repair, nothing works. I don't want to have to reload my OS if I can help it.

Opening All Programs Error File Does Not Have A Program Associated Performing This Action

Jan 17, 2009

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista.
