Jul 15, 2009I deleted my recent E-mail contents from the folder Recent E-mail. So i lost my mails from outlook 2003 also. How can i recover tha mails.

Mar 23, 2008I am using Windows mail and don't like the way it works, especially the autocomplete feature in the address bar. Can I move all my settings, email, etc. to Outlook 2003 and if so how? I am only doing this to hopefully access the auto complete feature that I expect is available in Outlook like it was in Outlook Express.

Aug 30, 2009I tried to add my son an e mail account on outlook 2003 and all seemed ok but then an error message from postmaster said that account is disabled. I am not very good at all with computers and I am afraid that if I experiement I may end up screwing things up. Does anyone know what to do or should I wait till monday and call microsoft?

Jan 12, 2010I am using ver. 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205).
I have just had a test done and noticed that on my webmail from my provider there are 7 messages in the inbox. But when I download to Windows Mail, only 4 of the 7 actually come in!?
Is there a known bug or something (e.g. problem with the junkfilter?) There is no set rule from this sender and I have suspected since this several weeks now, so I would have noticed if a rule had misplaced them. Is there a logfile or something to look back on or a freeware tool I could download for diagnostics?
This is my last resort, otherwise I'll have to download thunderbird and neglect this unreliable Windows Mail programm.

Mar 23, 2008I got everything transferred from Outlook 2003 to Windows Mail. Everything went very well. I set up my e-mail accounts with all the correct data. Even with this I do not seem to be able to send or receive mail.

On the non-administrator account, windows mail sends and recieves, but Outlook 2003 can send but not receive. The "test accounts settings" responds properly. All settings look to be identical.

Nov 19, 2009Using Windows Mail which was working fine this morning. Installed the recommended MS updates this afternoon, WM started running very slowly (taking 3-5 seconds to change message when clicked) now every e-mail and newsgroup message shows name and subject, but the content is completely blank. I can open them up, and the content is stored as an attachment, eg AT000223.html AT000223.txt, which I then have to save (if I click either attachment, I get "file not found" error), then I can open it up and read the mail. I have read and tried the fixes where I changed the "read messages in plain text" option, and the encoding options, still the same. I've done the maintenance on the folders, I've also emptied the temporary Internet files as a forum, still nothing.

Sep 16, 2009I bought a new HP desktop running Vista, and used a cable to transfer files, contacts, etc. from my old XP machine. Vista's Windows Mail worked fine for a couple of weeks, then suddenly, for no reason, XP's Outlook Express appeared, and Windows Mail disappeared. Every email, including those that I had deleted in XP going back to January '09 showed up; and now when I send an email, it doesn't show up in the "sent" box. I suspect Windows Mail is running in the background, and my sent emails are being saved there. Where is my Windows Mail, and how to I get it to become my default email again? My desktop icon still says "Windows Mail," but when I open it Outlook Express shows up.

I delete them, empty the deleted items box and junk mail and as soon as that task finishes the inbox once again starts receiving the old e-mails. How do I stop this and where to all these old, deleted e-mails reside so I can get rid of them permanently?

Jun 30, 2008I'm just setting up my Outlook now to pull in email from my various accounts and it's being a bear. I finally get it to connect with my AOL inbox, only instead of true inbox titles I'm getting all my deleted mail. To make matters worse, the deleted mail won't allow itself to be moved to the appropriate folder. It tells me: "Can't move the items. Unable to download item contents. You must be online to perform this operation." What the heck? How is it I'm not online when I open up my mailbox?

Mar 24, 2008The Windows Vista Home Premium on my new ASUS laptop has aquired a new form of weirdness lately. I keep it updated as the updates from Microsoft come in, and for about three weeks now, I see the following two erratic behaviours: Files I delete from my desktop return from oblivion upon the next reboot. Doesn't matter if I throw them in the bin, clear out the bin afterwards, or even use shift-delete to bypass the bin altogether: next reboot I have about a 50-50 change of seeing them pop up on my desktop again. And it seems to happen somewhere around the time the boot process is complete. I have not tested this in other directories, but will do so if you think it is relevant.

Mar 23, 2008My problem is that Outlook 2003 on VISTA Business hangs when checking for incoming mail. It also somestimes takes a very long time (several minutes) to send an email - the email window remains open with the hourglass running, and while waiting to send or while receiving Outlook is completely hung, so you cannot use it - you cannot even minimize or get any response from any of the Outlook windows. The windows do not redraw.
If I cancel the application using Task Manager, it initially says "Outlook is not responding" and also "Checking for a solution to this problem" but then both Outlook and the "Checking for a solution" windows vanish without trace. On restart Outlook will sometimes work OK when pressing send/receive, other times it will hang as before. It does not come up with the message that Outlook was not closed properly and does not go through the file checking process.
Backing Up Outlook 2003 Custom Settings
Aug 7, 2009This is for XP more than for Vista. I have been using Outlook since as far as I can remember but, there are times that I want to ring its neck or tear it apart limb from limb...I guess is better I don't know who the creator is But I digress... Anyways, back to my original thought. I have been having some issues with Outlook (best to use a new thread for this) so I decided to change to Mozilla Thunderbird but it didn't work like I thought it would (again... new thread). Bottom line is ...I have to go back to Outlook 2003. My pet peeve is that, even though I back up my pst files, eveytime I need to do a clean Outlook 2003 install or simple migration of sorts, I loose my custom settings, rules & alerts, etc, Is there an easy way to back up all these custom settings as well so you can migrate Outlook painlessly? I have done the google 'till my eyes drew blood but all I am getting are mixed solutions or me having to install a 3rd party software...Right now I have 3 e-mail accounts being handled by Outlook, my Office Personal, Company's bulk e-mail and Company's g-mail so I use a lot of custom settings.

Jun 14, 2009I have an HP7900 16GB memory using Vista 64. I have a big problem as I can't install / remove any software. Can't access outlook 2003 (it just hangs, just like when I try to install / remove software). I can't use the restore programmes either (Just hangs as above). This all stated when a red cross appeared on my networking icon in the bottom right of the screen.
I have tried to down load registry checkers but as above, they can't install. I can still access the internet and use all my adobe software, all office except outlook and use the internet. Has anyone else seen this?

Feb 6, 2009When I select Outlook in the import wizard a message box opens staitng that "e-mail cannot be imported from a MAPI client. MAPI is not installed or there was an error starting MAPI" What's the problem here? Do I need to install MAPI for indowsVista / Windows Mail and if so how? Or is there some other way to import the Outlook.pst file that I exported from WinXP/Outlook?

Apr 7, 2009Vista Home Premium, began getting message that c:users(user name)AppDataRoaming is corrupt and unreadable. Used Dell online technical support. They copied all the files under the username to a backup location, created a new username, and then copied the files back in. Basically copied the directory C:users(user name) to C:users(user name2). Then deleted the user name that wasn't working in the control panel. Looks great except all my wife's emails are now gone - and she had multiple folders with emails stored in them and thousands of deleted emails she referred to. Mad as a hornet!
Is there any way of recovering the deleted email files and then getting them back into Mail? I am trying Pareto Logic Data Recovery Program to search for the directory that was deleted that stores the emails C:users(user name)AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows MailLocal Folders. So far it is only finding folders with (user name2).I realize now I should have exported all the mail to a backup file before deleting the username, but the tech guy didn't tell me to do that before we deleted the old user name.

Jul 1, 2008I have been using Office 2007 for about a year, and this morning something changed. Historically, when I would designate a mail item for permanent deletion (by hitting shift and delete at the same time), a dialog box would pop up asking me if I was sure that I wanted that item to be permanently deleted. When the dialog box appeared, a sound was made simultaneously. (I believe that if I clicked yes to the question in the dialog box, another sound was made.) Today, for no apparent reason, there are no sounds made. I opened Control Panel and selected "sounds" to see if Outlook was among the programs listed where certain actions within a program are accentuated with sounds, but i see that Outlook is not listed. I restored the Sounds from "modified default" to "Windows Default" and re-started Outlook, but the sound was not restored. Does anyone know how to restore my sounds?
