I just build a computer and tonight i installed XP Pro SP2 on it. I updated all my drivers. Haven't downloaded anything.The OS seems very sluggish. i.e. screen locking up. clicking on START button and having a 3-4 sec delay before it comes up.

So I uninstalled it and tried to download AVG 8.0 but it gave me some type of error#, which I put it in googles and found out I had registry problems. From there I found a free registry cleaner program, and once I installed it, I had over 1,000 problems. The cleaner, however, after cleaning 100 problems it was requesting an upgrade which requires to purchase the program. I did not want to purchase so I uninstalled it. Than I found myself clever and installed it again to erase another 100 errors. I did that about 8-9 times, and I had about 300 errors left to clean when I found out I could not open ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS anymore therefore I was unable to uninstall the program. I have started to experience problems this started out being aload whinning noise that i have determined is either the hardrive or the a fan on the graphics card. I am worried that the harddrive is shot. The computer has started to tell me that there is a error speciffically "attribute seek error changes 100 to 200" so something is going on with the harddrive. I moved a couple of months back and am worried that the hardrive did not travel well. Also I have put in a new graphics card and wonder is it is producing much more heat. My sytem seems to be more and more unstable. I downloaded a trail versionof system mechanic and have used that to try and help but with little success. Every so often the computer would upon starting say that it had to check the Harddrive for systems intergity.
I have a Dell XPS Gen 2 computer (3.2 GHz P4) in which I was running a striped RAID array (2x250). It had worked fine for about a year, when one of the drives failed (the original that came with the computer) so I thought it would be a good time to upgrade and change configuration, so I installed 2 new Western Digital SATA drives (500 GB). The computer recognized the drives and let me create a mirrored array, so I started reloading Windows. When I got to the F6 part I put in the floppy disk with the RAID drivers and now I keep getting this error messag The only other thing I've done to the computer recently was upgrade from 2 GB of RAM to 4 GB, but everything was working for at least a month before this happened so I assume it's unrelated.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI need to completely clean a hard disk on a PC desktop. The desktop originally had ME installed, and was upgraded to XP Home edition. Once I have the hard disk cleared I am assuming that I need to use a startup disk for ME; install ME and then upgrade to XP Home edition. I have the original installation cd's (ME & XP) that came with the desktop; however, I do not have a startup floppy for ME. Also, the ME files that were saved to the hard drive when the upgrade was done have been erased. Is there a way of meeting my goal of re-installing XP Home other than as I have described?

I use Windows 98 SE on my desktop, but I'm wanting to upgrade to XP, as 98 is no longer supported by microsoft and increasingly I am having problems running newer software on it or finding compatable software for win 98. I have Windows XP installed through the Data Drivers Recovery CD and that's all I got related to my computer OS WINXP. If I wanted to install Windows XP to another computer that had Windows Vista, with that CD, is it possible, even though it says Data Drivers Recovery CD? This laptop does not come with a floppy nor do I have a usb floppy! I would like to "UPGRADE" to win XP Home but the hard drive isn't seen because it's missing the xp sata drivers. I already went to gateways driver site and downloaded the 32bit sata/ mass storage controller, the chipset wich supports XP and the Sigma Tel Audio Driver. I am going to use "nlite" to slipstream the drivers into the XP install disk but have a few questions because I have never done this. First, do I need to insert all drivers into the xp install or just the sata/ mass controller? And If anyone has ever done this could I get you to walk me through it?

After the recovery all My Documents are gone, which is fine since I backed up them, but my HD still reads as only having 9GB of memory left. Can anyone help me fix this? I don't have the original CD my computer came with...is it possible to run a destructive system recovery without the CD?

In the last 2 weeks I have contacted Dell chat support about problems with my Dell Dimension 4700 PC.I tried the two solutions suggested by tech. support, neither of which worked. I finally stumbled upon the solution late last night. Are others having the same problems with Dell support? They were once famous for their support. Now, it's laughable.

Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me.
