I backed up all my files before I ran system recovery WITHOUT a CD on my Compaq Windows XP. Before I ran the recovery, I had only 9GB of space left. After the recovery all My Documents are gone, which is fine since I backed up them, but my HD still reads as only having 9GB of memory left. Can anyone help me fix this? I don't have the original CD my computer came with...is it possible to run a destructive system recovery without the CD?
For some reason my antivirus stoped working. So I uninstalled it and tried to download AVG 8.0 but it gave me some type of error#, which I put it in googles and found out I had registry problems. From there I found a free registry cleaner program, and once I installed it, I had over 1,000 problems. The cleaner, however, after cleaning 100 problems it was requesting an upgrade which requires to purchase the program. I did not want to purchase so I uninstalled it. Than I found myself clever and installed it again to erase another 100 errors. I did that about 8-9 times, and I had about 300 errors left to clean when I found out I could not open ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS anymore therefore I was unable to uninstall the program. And not only that, I was unable to open windows messenger, or disk difragment
when loading a pc given to me it will not load windows and gives a message to reboot from boot up cd.i do not have this a was given to me and the floppy drive seems inoperable.
I just build a computer and tonight i installed XP Pro SP2 on it. I updated all my drivers. Haven't downloaded anything. The OS seems very sluggish. i.e. screen locking up. clicking on START button and having a 3-4 sec delay before it comes up.
FOR SOME REASON BOTH THE RESTORE AND THE DEFRAG NO LONGER WORK, I CLICK ON THEIR ICONS AND THERE IS NO REACTION AT ALL NOT EVEN A BOX SAYING SOMETHING IS OUT OF WACK. I HAVE CHECKED AND THE SYSTEM RESTORE HAS NOT BEEN TURNED OFF, AND ALL THEIR FILES SEEM IN TACK IN SYSTEM32 ETC.
I just noticed that I don't have my D drive listed under My Computer. Is there anyway I can get it back outside of System Restore? I'd just had to use that to undo some updates.
Am running XP sp2 on aamd2800+ with 1g ram and a weston digital harddrive I have started to experience problems this started out being aload whinning noise that i have determined is either the hardrive or the a fan on the graphics card. I am worried that the harddrive is shot. The computer has started to tell me that there is a error speciffically "attribute seek error changes 100 to 200" so something is going on with the harddrive. I moved a couple of months back and am worried that the hardrive did not travel well. Also I have put in a new graphics card and wonder is it is producing much more heat. My sytem seems to be more and more unstable. I downloaded a trail versionof system mechanic and have used that to try and help but with little success. Every so often the computer would upon starting say that it had to check the Harddrive for systems intergity.
The device manager stated window could not load this driver for microsoft system management bios driver and intel (r) 82801eb usb2 enchanced host controller - 24dd. I have run windows service pack 2 but still not resolved it.
And also my pc is running very slow during boot and browsing. For your information my pc is p4 3.06ghz. I have run hijackthis program, but dont understand its content which is to be removed.
My screen just went to blue and states that "Warning spywrae threat detected on your pc" to protect your computer from spyware attacks click here" And then a warning keeps popping up from the active process bar saying "system needs neseccary installation of spyware" When i close the pop-up this web site appears http://total-pc-protection.com/
In the last 2 weeks I have contacted Dell chat support about problems with my Dell Dimension 4700 PC.I tried the two solutions suggested by tech. support, neither of which worked. I finally stumbled upon the solution late last night. Are others having the same problems with Dell support? They were once famous for their support. Now, it's laughable.
The problem I'm having is, every week I do a scan disk and defrag. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on
Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?
i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up. I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.
I recently noticed that my free space on hard drive has been eroded and my used space has been increasing. I have not added any software. Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.
I had a Dell with XP Media Center Edition on it and I am going to make a new build. My question is, can I use the XP Media Center RECOVERY CD that came with the dell if I were to have a new CD KEY?
I had to uninstall HP Photosmart C4100 series only because I was missing some wording on the buttons that just disappeared for some reason, It said to uninstall the program and then just reinstall it. Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes
Trying to recover my registry from being corrupted. I am in Windows XP Pro recovery console. But when I try At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line: md tmp copy c:windowssystem32 configsystem c:windows mpsystem.bak. It says I cannot copy the file. The file cannot be copied.
does anybody know why i have 1.10 GB free space in Safe Mode and 804 MB free space in Normal? thanks. and i know that 804 MB free space isnt alot, this is a pretty small harddrive from what the computer says it is .
I looking for a way to make sure my Operation System is working correctly? I have a recovery disc for Windows XP PRO, but it says that it will wipe out all of my upgrades if I use it?Is there a Service Pack 2 Recovery File that I can download to a My desktop, and then burn to a CD?
I lost my system recovery disc. I also lost all of my games that came with windows...free cell, solitaire, paint..etc. I just want those back. Can I run a system recovery program on windows without a disc
My issue is my machine displays "not enough disk space " error when i try to paste a file of 4gb though there is enough disk space of over 8gb free in my drive
I don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.
I currently have 13.0 GB of used space and 5.58 GB of free space. I would like to get more free space. My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
how to expand the disk space that I have. The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.
I need to do a System Recovery to restore my system back to its factory settings (I'm using WinXP Home). When I hit F10 upon startup in order to access the system recovery, nothing happens- it boots as it would regularly. I was able to boot up using the CD, and am now in the System Recovery console. Might anyone tell me what I need to do to perform a non-destructive, or even a destrucitve system recovery?
My question is regarding the recovery console available on Compaq machines. Is there a similar program to the Compaq recovery console that allows for the home user to install and back up their systems in a nearly identical manner as to how to Compaq R.C. works?
I'm running Windows XP SP3 with everything up to date as far as I know. I have the complete set of my PC's OEM Disks that I've used once when my OS was completely messed up, had Geeks Rescue out and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I know what they are for. What I'm not understanding are the several tools I'm afraid to open listed in my "Start"/"All Programs" I have both "Compaq"/"Compaq Presario PC Tools" with "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/"Compaq Support Information"/"Compaq System Recovery"/"Remote Assistance"/"Safety and Comfort Guide"
Recently ive been getting the yellow triangle icon with an ''!'' in it, saying that I have very low disk space. Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.
At least once a week I get this message: "To free up disk space, OE can compact messages". I just click "OK". I have 132 GB available so why do I get a message like this?
