View 1 RepliesI have XP Professional as my operating system and everything was fine until last Friday. I have quite a lot of my favourite music tracks installed on my PC as I like to listen to them while I'm working. The problem I've got is this, I like to edit the ID3 tags on these tracks to take away all of the techie info that come with them. This i do through the properties dialogue box. Until last Friday this dialogue box had four tabs showing, General, Audio Properties, ID Tag and Summary. Somewhere along the line the Audio Properties and ID Tag pages have disappeared. Has anybody got any ideas as to how I can reclaim them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to completely clean a hard disk on a PC desktop. The desktop originally had ME installed, and was upgraded to XP Home edition. Once I have the hard disk cleared I am assuming that I need to use a startup disk for ME; install ME and then upgrade to XP Home edition. I have the original installation cd's (ME & XP) that came with the desktop; however, I do not have a startup floppy for ME. Also, the ME files that were saved to the hard drive when the upgrade was done have been erased. Is there a way of meeting my goal of re-installing XP Home other than as I have described?

Also, will Windows XP install over Windows 98 without problems?
I use Windows 98 SE on my desktop, but I'm wanting to upgrade to XP, as 98 is no longer supported by microsoft and increasingly I am having problems running newer software on it or finding compatable software for win 98. I was thinking of purchasing "Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade with Service Pack 2", but have no idea about upgrading an OS as I have never done this before. My PC specs are: 190MB RAM, Intel Celeron 500MHz. Is this enough to run Windows XP on? Or is it a better idea to get a new PC with XP pre-installed? If I did purchase this upgrade, how does it install, i.e. is it easy to install, like reformating windows 98 or do you need 'expert' knowledge? Can anything go wrong in an OS upgrade?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just upgrade my xp home service pack 1 to professional service pack 2 using the upgrade option.now that I've upgraded, there are several things wrong with my system that I can't seem to fix:
1. Sometimes during shutdown windows hangs at the "saving your settings" dialog, I have to push the power button to have it power off.
2. Right clicking any files (on the desktop, in explorer, and even shortcuts in the start menu) will cause the system to lock up. I have to end task explorer.exe and restart it to get windows back. Special right click menus display without any problems (ie: my computer, recycle bin, desktop, start button)
3. Going into control panel > network connections will lock up the windows.
4. going into internet options > connections locks up just the internet options window.
I've tried uninstalling as many programs I don't need. A reformat is my LAST resort.
I use Windows XP Pro in my small 3 computer peer to peer network. One computer holds most of the actual programs while the other 2 computers use the programs. Is SP2 a safe upgrade for an XP Pro system? Is it advisable?

all the lastest Windows, BIOS, and hardware updates available, and still it crashes
I recently upgraded my System from P3 to P4, also added a new 120GB SATA Hard Drive which I kept as a Primary Master.I also attached my old 40GB IDE hard drive which is the secondary master. I had installed Windows XP Pro on the IDE HDD and now have installed the same O.S. on the new drive also. In my old system which also had two hard drives (both IDE drives) I used to get a boot option. But with the SATA + IDE combination the boot option has disappeared and it boots directly from the SATA Drive.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThe situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.
