When I boot - I end up with this notice in a box:the exception unknown software exception 0xc000000008) occurred in the application at location 0x7c9666c6.
Clicking OK or CANCEL allows me to go on - but something is wrong.Sometimes I just get a WINDOWS SCREEN but the items in the TASK BAR are blue boxes rather than Start, etc. and at other times the "Blue Screen" shows up.
Every time i switch my system i get the following error "The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000024) occurred in the application at location 0x7c964ed1.Click on OK to terminate the program" and the title bar shows "setup.exe -Application Error"

I am unable to access some headings (i.e. Drafts, sent items etc etc) on my hotmail account and various other sites which have headings. I can access it from other computers but not on my own. When i try to click on my drafts folder it doesn't let me view it. So I've right clicked on drafts and clicked on properties where it says unknown protocol... i'm not sure if this is the problem as when do the same from another computer it still says unknown protocol but it lets me access it. It's nothing to do with pop up blocker.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM with Windows XP Professional Installed. I'm really wondering why this computer starts up so slowly. From the moment I press the power button to the moment the welcome screen appears, it takes 2 minutes. It then takes another 2 minutes for the welcome screen to disappear and show the desktop and load all the startup items in the taskbar. That's a total of 4 minutes and I had older Celeron computers which started up way faster than this. I already removed all unnecessary items in startup yet it hasn't changed much. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm getting an error message at startup and when I run a couple of programs, An exception "unhandled win32 exception has occurred in programname.exe" However no debuggers are registered that can debug this exception. Unable to jet debug. I contacted Microsoft support who advise to do a repair install of xp, but I did this once before, on a different pc, and lost all the startmenu shortcuts to my installed programs, so am a bit loathe to do this, also as a test I created another administrative account and I don't get this issue. The simple solution (but not the most convenient) would be to use this other account, but is there another way around this?

I don't know why it's searching for some removable media (I think) when my thumb drive is still inserted. View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the past few months I've added a 512 stick of RAM and replaced the hard drive in my five year old laptop with a brand new Seagate Momentus. The laptop itself is a Pentium M 1.8 running Windows XP Home (Service Pack 3). Also in the past few months I've started receiving BSOD's for Machine Check Exception errors. The numbers tend to vary, though I can never catch one long enough to write them down, as the system flashes the error screen and then shuts off or reboots.
I've run MemTest as recently as this afternoon and the results came back with no errors found in the memory. I ran a SMART test from SpeedFan on the new HD and it was deemed perfectly fit. Still, I can't shake the feeling there's something going on with the new hardware in this laptop, as I had never even heard of a Machine Check Exception since I never got one until some time after installing the parts.
I notice I get this specific error when playing a computer game (Diablo 2, for Christ's sake, so the game isn't particularly taxing!) or watching video, ie intensive activities. It never happens while just browsing the net. I am not overclocking the processor. In fact, I'm undervolting it to keep heat down, though I've turned off Notebook Hardware Control to go back to normal voltage setting and I still get the Machine Check Exception errors with the same frequency.
With XP Pro SP2, I enable "Group similar taskbar buttons". I generally have my taskbar stretched 2 to 3 rows even so. Sometimes, when I have a lot of windows open, and the similar taskbar buttons group and stack themselves, so 1 button contains 2 or 3 open tasks, I can't get any action out of the buttons that represent multiple open tasks.
Any of the taskbar buttons that represent a single open task are fine. But any buttons that represent multiple open tasks don't respond. I have to do Alt -
Tab to bring a task to the front, if it's one of the tasks on a button that represents a group. Or I can go to Taskbar Properties, and deselect "Group similar taskbar buttons".
I've just switched from 98 to XP. I find now that the window designations in the taskbar for my *browser windows only* are severely and unaccountably truncated. My browser is IE6. Even if there's only one window open, if it's a browser window, only one letter will display. Other windows will properly display the full name. I've turned taskbar grouping on and off with no change. I've also run the SFC utility, with no change. There is no such problem in my Win98 machine, and my security settings (and all other settings) are the same. I don't wish to upgrade to IE7.
