I recently installed the Vista Transformation pack and didn't like it so i uninstalled it.I forgot to remove some parts from the pack so I went under program files and deleted the folders that were related to the program. I think by deleting one of them, I removed the logon screen because everytime I start my computer the logon screen comes up with just the background and no admin or user things showing, just the vista logon background. Is there a way around this so I can get into my computer and restore the folder I deleted?
i`m hoping someone who has already done this can lend me a hand...... ok,what i`m wondering is,on my xp pc i have customised my cursors,eg.animated arrow, busy & working in background, does this pack replace all this or what exactly does it do ???? as i want to know what changes am i going to see, sorry to be a
It is possible to display the version of Windows in the lower right corner of your desktop. This requires a modification in the Windows Registry. Note: You cannot decide what text you want to appear; it's predefined, based on the version of Windows you are running. For example, the text for Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 will be along the lines of:
Windows XP Professional Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 (Service Pack 2)
Procedure: 1) Click the Start button, click Run, type regedit and click OK 2) On the left-hand side, navigate to (and highlight) HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop 3) On the right-hand side, locate PaintDesktopVersion and double-click it 4) In the pop-up window, change the data to 1 and click OK Note: 0 = Hide Windows version from desktop 1 = Show Windows version on desktop 5) Close the Windows Registry Editor as well as your other programs and reboot (or log off and log back in).
i tried vista transofrmation pack on my other harddrive but before i put it on this harddrive is there any other free programs/addons to xp that are vista look alikes?
where can I find windows Xp themes that won't harm my computer. By the Way is the "Windows Vista Transformer Pack" harmful or can I install it and it won't affect my computer in any way. Do these themes come packed with spyware or viruses?
I want to convert my two hard disks on my laptop to NTFS for the obvious benefits. I found this page on the microsoft website HTML.I just don't know where to find the volume labels of the drives.
After altering my display settings, my desktop icons have a blue box under their labels, they used to be transparent. Does anybody know how to change them back?
I noticed this morning that all my Quicklaunch icons had stopped showing labels.. restart fixed the prob, but only temporarily. Is there a fix that will save me the bother of frequent restarts?
I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... Ok this is a screenshot of what I want to do
I'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:? Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation? Thank you, Al
I originally had Vista Business edition on my laptop and decided to dual boot with XP. So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? When I turn on my computer it boots straight into XP and doesn't show that menu where it gives me a choice of which OS I want to boot
Is it possible to have a Vista based system and then load XP on the same system and switch between the two. I know mac's have something similar to this but i have an HP dv7 pavilion notebook with an AMD Turion x2 Dual-core mobile RM-70 2ghz processor, 4 gb of ram, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip set, and 156GB of free harddrive space
just ordered a new pc that is on its way pre loaded with WIN XP PRO SP2. It also come with a free VISTA BUSSINES upgrade. I want to set up a dual boot system when i get my VISTA disk. should i use partition magic and set up a new partition for vista or is there a better way of doing this
I initially started with XP and created a separate partition for Vista, installing Vista on the other partition, Vista sees the (XP) Earlier version of windows. When I choose XP, I get the following error: NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. If I repair the XP with fixmbr - I end up screwing up Vista. Then when I repair Vista, it end's screwing up XP
does ne1 know if vista can dual boot with xp no problems yet only wonderin cuz we are very close to vista, and i want it. i cannot use my dorm room internet with vista cuz of bs security shit.
i remote into my XP box everything is fine except when i shut down using a shutdown shortcut and other shutdown utilities no matter what after i get booted off the remote session the computer looks like its shutting down then stays on for a few seconds then a BSOD appear. I have been trying to figure out why for the past week and no solution so im hoping someone can chime in..The problem is only on remote if i shut down locally never a single BSOD and no hardware has changed. No driver issues. ive read and tried all the usual solutions. Need someone here to chime in on specifics.Ive also tried to remote in with bare minimum and no go. same thing.
I was dual booting XP and Vista but didn't want Vista anymore. So I got rid of Vista, and that's all said and done now. Problem is, the boot loader is still coming up telling me to choose between "Earlier Version of Windows" and "Windows Vista". How to I get rid of it without using Vista's boot manager?
I'm currently running Vista on a raid 0 array, and want to dual with XP. I have two partitions, one with vista and the other that I tried installing XP on. After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. In vista I can see the other partition where XP was installed, and inside is just a folder titled WINDOWS and it seems like all the windows files are in there
This is weird. I have to go through the shutdown procedure twice, i.e., Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok, then Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok again. It will then shutdown properly. The same thing happens when I try to "Restart." After doing the first shutdown sequence, everything is normal. I can open programs, surf the web, etc. It's as if I never tried to shut it down at all. Only after the second shutdown procedure will it shutdown fully. One note: When I go through the first shutdown sequence, my taskbar pops up and the desktop is darkened. After clicking Ok, the taskbar autohides and my desktop returns to its normal color.I have only had this problem for the last month or two. Before that, all was fine. It's not critical since I can shut it down. It's just annoying to have to do it twice.I have Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, build 5.00.2195.
When attempting to "shutdown" or "reboot", I have to do it twice. When I select "Start" then either shutdown or reboot, my desktop will flicker a couple of times, and then nothing appears to happen. I must select "start" again and then either shutdown or reboot and then they will work as expected.
It had Windows vista in it and she had someone put Windows XP in it. It now has a virus and my friend wants Vista put back in it. I have a cd here that says TOSHIBA recovery and applications / drivers, Satellite A130/ A135 series, Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit. I put this cd in the rom and restarted. it did nothing. just loaded XP up again.
I hate service pack 3.All its done is take my Superduper 2 gig system and turn it into an 8088 xt system. Is there anyway to remove service pack 3, or do I need to do a complete and utter reboot and reinstall of Windows, including all the updates etc?And is there a way i can save the existing updates so that I won't have to download them all again? If I have to do a compelete reinstall, im looking at an 8 hour job or more.
this had happened to me a month or so back ....sometimes when im online for more than an hour....then when i try to open IE or anything else...nothing opens...i even tried opening the taskmanager but that too does not open.....nor does the start button...it only becomes ok when i restart the computer by hitting the reset button on the cpu...i had got rid of this problem for a while when i uninstalled NAV...i assumed the problem was with NAV...but the problem has started again.... i ran TDS 3 and it said that there were no trojans found. But it says i have to update it althought i have the latest update installed.
I recently had problems with IE8 so I Uninstalled and installed IE7. All my favorites are under my favorites folder: Document and settings/Dell/favorites.When I try to go to one of favorites it tries to print for some odd reason. I bought a new keyboard, and to install it I had to uninstall the old drivers (it was wireless, so is the new one.) After doing that and rebooting, it no longer picks up any keyboards once its in windows. It picks it fine in bios (and I can choose which OS to load.. I have fedora on a seperate HD, not the one I boot off of). This is true for every keyboard! Wireless or not! So I'm stumped.Either windows removed some file when uninstalling the last wireless software, or I donno what else it could be.Any ways I can this fixed? I was thinking if I bypass the password into windows then I can reinstall the drivers. I think a normal XP cd would work?
My Laptop XP Pro with SP3 is totally different to the same on my PC, where I upgraded the Sp's as they came out. So the format is different between the two.I wanted to un-install my laptops version and install the version downloaded from MS, but I don't have the option to do so in Add/Remove on the Laptop as I do on the PC. Its listed, but no option to remove/uninstall.Can I un-install this SP3 in the registry or anyother way or could I just install my version and overwrite the current SP3.
I tryed a firewall called Comodo. I was not impressed because I could not get it to allow alot of my apps access even after creating rules ect. I uninstalled it, which was a nightmare and took forever because their installer is bugged! anyway, I have gone through the Regedit and deleted all ref's to comodo, deleted the folders ect. Best as I can tell everythine has been removed. However I have programs, apps and games that used to access fine BEFORE installing Comodo that cant connect now! Should I do a reinstall of XP? or is there some other files that the firewall might of moded that can be replaced? Any thoughts or ideas? I have a post on the Comodo Forums, but after searching most of the day I have yet to find anyone with a problem like this after following the manuel uninstallation and I'm not to hopeful...
