I just uninstalled Vista Transformation Pack 4.0 and my system(XP_SP2) was left with a few back effects.
#1 - The Log Off/Shutdown text labels on the start menu are gone ( Tryed to change start menu types )
#2 - My C: Drive icon is corrupt ( Already tied repairing the cache and rebuilding icons )
#3 - Outlook Express Icon changed
I recently installed the Vista Transformation pack and didn't like it so i uninstalled it.I forgot to remove some parts from the pack so I went under program files and deleted the folders that were related to the program. I think by deleting one of them, I removed the logon screen because everytime I start my computer the logon screen comes up with just the background and no admin or user things showing, just the vista logon background. Is there a way around this so I can get into my computer and restore the folder I deleted?
View 14 Replies View Relatedso i installed service pack 2 today and had restarted the computer only to find that the welcome screen didn't appear, but the normal log in screen that i was used to seeing with earlier windows os. i logged in as both myself and my mom trying to make the welcome screen return, but nothing i've tried works. we are also unable to do the quick switch thing so we're being forced to completely log off and then log on again under our respective user names. whenever i try to switch accounts i get this message:This computer is in use and has been locked.'Only *insert name here* or an administrator can unlock it

View 2 Replies View RelatedI m trying to install Service pack 2 onto my home PC. I used to have SP2 on my computer and it worked and installed perfectly but months ago I had to format and put on SP1. I have now decided that I want SP2 back on and having tried around 6 times with 2 different discs and with no avail. I am having the same problem every time; it will not finish the installation and will hang on the boot screen. It will install all the components but on boot it will hang and not finish. It has installed before on this same PC with no problems but not these times. I have tried an upgrade, a clean install; install driver and computer updates then trying both ways again. I have tried a quick and even a long format process but with the same problem every time. Could it be the hardware? I have made 3 changes since the last time of having SP2 on my PC and they are as follows:
-GeForce 5500 has now changed to GeForce 6600
-Added more RAM 256mb to 1GB
-Added a fan
I m not sure where to go from this, stuck with SP1 and unable to install the latest software I need for my college work.
I have the XP home and had the Zone alarm installed. Since I have installed the new service pack for XP I have problems with the outlook. It shows me sending & receiving error and doesnt open. I reset the account again for outlook after consulting the ISP but still not luck.

My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

This is my moms pc, Dell 2400 xp home service pack 2 512 ram 2.40 ghz Pentium 4 ht dual processors, 40 gb HDD mostly free.The key board were talking about here is the standard keyboard and mouse shipped with dell products when you don't get upgrades.It will work in set up and bios,also when I ran diagnostics it worked. I do not know how to load drivers,I tried to see if that would work.When windows loads up,no mouse or keyboard to move around. There must be a virus or something hanging it up. If I reload windows my disk is ser pac 1a, will that be ok? Even if I do repair ,it still gets rid of service pack 2,seems I read that.Correct? Can I do this without keyboard functions in windows? should because the only typing is in the setup,correct?

I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.

I have downloaded it and it gets to final stages of instalation (performing cleaning) and then I get an error message saying that it could not complete installation. I have a proper copy of win xp and have used it for ages and registered it. The problems came when I got a new motherboard and it asked me to register windows which I did successfully. When I went to download SP2 it told me I had to register windows and to follow certain steps in the control panel.

View 6 Replies View RelatedToday I got a new computer, and set up a home network with my DSL connection. Well, I noticed that my older computer hadn't been updated in a while so I downloaded/installed all the new XP updates, including SP2. Well as soon as I did that, Windows would not boot. So I turned off auto-reboot when it encounters an error. Even worse. Now I can't even go into safe mode, unless it's the command line. So I decided, what the heck, I need to clean up anyways. And I try to reinstall windows, my CD won't load. So now I'm stuck with a nice blue paperweight that won't boot windows and I can't boot the XP CD. If anyone has encountered this problem, and fixed it, please reply. If not, I'm getting Redhat right now, and going to install that, format, uninstall and put XP back in. I was just hoping for an easier way out.
