I installed adobe reader 8.1. Since then I haven't been able to shut down computer the right way. When I go to start then click on turn off computer the shut down box never comes up. I end up having to push the power button to turn it off. I know this will eventually do harm is there anything I can do besides reformatting. I have all the disk to reformat, but would rather not if I can get this fixed. My hard drive crashed last year, it was an 80 gig, I replaced it with a 300 gig. Haven't had any problems until last week after I downloaded adobe.

No errors or anything...just vanishes.I use Windows XP Professional version 2002 Service Pack 2.If anyone has any ideas for how to get it to work I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was trying to update Adobe Reader from 7.0.5 to 7.0.8, the newest one, when all my problems began. When I tried to install .8 I got a message that read: "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can acces it." So was going to just remove Adobe 7.05 in Add/Remove and got the same message. Went to C:program files and got the same message. I can't get Adobe off my computer. I really need help. The 7.0.5 won't open anything, get the same message. I don't know where the source file would be if it isn't in C:program files.

On clicking any links to adobe I just get the page cannot be displayed message! The odd thing is that after I reinstalled the adobe reader from the cd, it came up with 3 updates from the website and I installed them.I am running Windows XP, and have run AVG and adaware scans with no problems. I also run zone alarm (adobe is allowed, must be else it wouldn't have updated itself?)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did some looking in the forum and did not see anyone else commenting on this issue. I have a Dell computer with XP Professional installed on it. While using Outlook to read mail messages, I noticed that if I click on any web link in the message that an adobe reader download manager activates and tries to upgrade my version of adobe reader. These web links have nothing to do with adobe- such as a link to "unsubscribe" from the email that I am getting. I have allowed it to load the latest version of adobe- but when I hit the link again (after the latest adobe install) it tries to download it again. I have tried removing the adobe download manager program and tried loading the latest version of adobe myself (9.3.1)- it still tries to download an upgrade to adobe. It looks like Adobe is using a 3rd party upgrade program from Nosso, their link is nosltd.com. That is the program that keeps activating and I do not see it in the remove programs choices. I also looked in the registry and see that there are still entries for Adobe v7 as well as v9 (7 was the prior version). I don't understand the registry- have done some simple fixes in the past- wondering why v7 is still there when v9 is loaded.

I have re-installed my Adobe programs. I have tried using the Office disks to repair. I was tooling around Abode Photoshop, when suddenly my computer stopped responding to left-clicks, so I was stuck inside the program.I tried hitting ctrl alt delete but I couldn't force Photoshop to end because my computer wouldn't respond to left clicks. So I hit the reset button and when my computer booted up, nothing would respond to left clicks.Right clicks worked, however.I tried a bunch of stuff, like uninstalling Photoshop and using a system restore, but nothing worked. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, my left-clicking ability returned.

Afterwards I ran MSCONFIG as I often do to restrict the amount of stuff that autostarts at boot time.
