System Wont Get To Startup: Corrupted File Error Message?
Apr 21, 2007
I turned on my computer and windows didn't start up. It didn't even go into post or anything. What came up was that there was a corrupted file. winntsystem32 configsystem. I know this means that that file is missing but I cannot fix it because I don't have my Windows XP CD nor do I have a Startup Disk so I could recover the register. What I have done was, got a BART CD and booted from it and windows loaded but I don't know how to fix or find the corrupted file.
When I start the laptop, the first black screen loads, and then directly skips to an error message saying "Windows cannot start because the Windows/system32/ config/system file is either corrupt or missing." Then it prompts you to try to load Windows using the installation CD.which I do not have! Whoever's reading this, PLEASE please help me, the laptop's like, my life, and I haven't had the common sense to back up anything

I tried to open zone alarm and AIM and got a pop up saying that C:/Program Files is corrupt. What? Then I got a yellow pop up in the lower right of my toolbar saying that its corupt and to run a chkdsk...Would it fix this? If not what? Why did this happen?

I really need some help here. I have a second HD with no OP system on which I just use to store most of my music, pics, documents etc. The problem is when I click on one of the folders (my most important one I get the message "file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"I really need to get to this folder,
I am running Windows XP with SP 2 and when I try to load certain software that use to run on an older PC with 98 SE I get a message saying 16 bit windows subsystem C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS_DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close@ to terminate the application. What does this mean and is there a way round this as some of the software used to load and work okay on this PC but has been uninstalled but cannot now ne installed. This happens with a number of software packages.
I have had this problem for quite a time now. Everytime I try to download a file it is corrupt. For instance, I tried downloading a movie clip off rapidshare and although its only 3 files and 300MB, it always came as CRC error check failed. I tried downloading it from multiple servers of rapidshare but had no success. I also tried downloading other files yet I am having no success downloading anything.
I have two partitions on the same drive and both had Win XP installed. I decided to reformat the second partition, and for no particular reason decided to install Win 2000 there. Now on boot up I get the normal boot.ini menu but if I choose XP I get an error that says Win 2000 has a missing or corrupted file: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMd……..SYSTEMd not a misprint! I hit reset and choose Win2000 at the boot menu and Win 2000 comes up OK . I tried to repair 2000 and I re-installed it but still get the same error. I tried modifying the boot.ini file but it didn't.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.
I get an error on boot up telling me that the config file is corrupted or missing. IT also states to please insert CD to try and repair this problem. Press "r" before the first screen. If I do that will it try and reinstall XP? Will I lose all my data?
The system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?
All of a sudden I cannot boot up my Toshiba laptop (2.3mhz pent4, 512 RAM, Windows XP Home with SP2). I get the error message "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:C:windowssystem32configsystem".By hitting the F8 key when starting I can get the start menu and I've tried booting into safe mode and I've tried "boot using last known good configuration" - but still get the same error message.
Whenever I try to open my 48Gig partition on my slave hard drive, I get this message:F:is not accessible The File or directory is corrupted and unreadable this is very strange because I just used it earlier today and opened it to look in it with no problem. It was formated NTFS yesterday to only be used by my W2K operating system on the extended partition of my dual boot setup....but it is still visible in my Win98 My Computer list(I didn't think NTFS partitions could be seen by Win98).
My CD ROM/DVD player recently stopped working on my Omitech computer. From My Computer - I can't see the drive anymore. In the device manager - it has a yellow exclamation mark on it. I tried updating the driver but the message was that the software was already the best match. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it says a file is missing or corrupt. I bought a new external CD ROM - but have the exact same problem with it. I went to Run and put in sfc /scannow and there were problems that maybe could be fixed - if only it could read the XP CD - then it could fix the CD ROM. But it can't read the CD because of the problem with the CD ROM. (a whole in my bucket story.) So - how can I fix the problem if it wants a CD to fix the problem but the CD ROM is not working to read the CD?
When I start my computer I get a blank notepad type window that is titled: C:PROGRA~1COMMON~1SYMANT~1CCAPP.EXE.The error message reads: Error-16 bit MS_DOS Subsytem..The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.CS:053e IP:0235 OP: 636b696e67..I am using XP Home, SP1.
PC wont boot up any more , it says there could be a currupt or missing file , it says its config system and says it might be able to repair the file using the install disc. i have a System Recovery CD-ROM

I rebooted after I removed it.
Everytime I turn my computer on I get this error message popping up: Windows - No Disk, Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c.
Upon starting my computer, everything boots normally, but every time it does, a blank error message box appears (with that red X) with the only contents in the box an 'ok' button. When I hit the OK button, nothing happens (the system mostly runs fine, except for some random shut down issues (after about, say, 100 hours or so of being on). I am on Windows XP Home edition. Running Adaware, Spyware Doctor, and Norton A/V doesn't fix it.
For the past few weeks everytime I restarted my computer, I would get a message saying that windows "did not start because file sym_hi.sys is corrupted." Then i would press enter and windows would start.I decided to reinstall windows.... at the beginning during copying installation files an error pops up that says:An error occured copying file sym_hi.sys to C:$WIN_NT$.~BTsym_hi.sy_.-data error (cyclic redundancy check)-

I need immediate help on a problem I am facing these days at my WinXP ProSP3 32bit OS startup. A message pops up with an error sound showing the following details: hpqSTE08.exe The instruction at "0x14a02807" referenced memory at "0x000000a1" could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program. Click Cancel to debug the program.Almost simultaneously a Microsoft Send Error Report Dialog Box pops up talking of sending a report on HP Cue error.I usually have to click OK to continue the startup. I have sent the error reports to MS several times. The message keeps popping up nevertheless. My reinstalling SP3 has not solved this problem. Using Speedbit's Memomory Optimiser has also not helped me.Please send me you kind guidance in fixing my startup. I use Windows XP Professional 32bit OS with SP3. I have this OS on my desktop PC using Pentium P4 3Ghz 2MB L2 Cache 800Mhz FSB, Intel D945GCCR mainboard and 4GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM.
