The chain of events I see the motherboard logo, as usual, and then windows logo with loading dots underneath.I hear a click and the logo disappears.A white on black one-line message flashes on but it flashes so quickly that I cannot read it Then, the computer reboots and the whole schmagaggie repeats itself.Will do this until I shut it down.F8 and delete don't help me because my computer knowledge level is low.

Classes don't start for spring until the end of the week, so I can't have my professors help me, so I'm using fourms to fix my problem. Here it is:I'm currently working on a Dell Inspirion 1501, AMD 64x Dual Core, 1GB RAM, 100 GB HDD, Windows XP Media Center Edition, SP2.The original problem was a registry error message that was coming up at startup, and Internet Explorer 7 would not load the Internet even though everything with the Local Area Connection was fine.These problems were fixed by: Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7, and running TuneUp2008, which has a registry cleaner, which fixed several problems. Everything seemed to work fine after this; up until I attempted to use Spyware Blaster and Ad-Aware. The computer was not allowing them to access the internet.Checked the Windows Firewall, and added the programs to the exceptions list, still nothing.
Then I realized that they had Norton Internet Security 2006 installed, so figuring that it was the Norton firewall blocking those programs I attempted to open Norton. The program would not open, and would freeze. After several unsuccessful attempts to uninstall Norton, (I was recieving some error message aboue being logged into Norton as an Admin user, but since Norton would not open, I could not do this) I found the solution on the internet, a file from Symtematec, I ran it, and it said that it would be completely uninstalled after the next restart, so I restarted.
Since I restarted from uninstalling Norton, Chkdsk runs at every startup. First it runs a 3-stage check, finds no problems, then reboots. At the next reboot, chkdsk will run again, this time with a 5-stage check. After hours and hours of chkdsk just repeatedly running on a loop, I attempted to boot in safe mode, which was unsuccessful. I'm also not able to boot into Last Known Good Config, it just starts the chkdsk again. The only thing I AM able to do, is run the WinXP CD at bootup and run the recovery console, but I'm not sure what I need to be fixing or doing within the Recovery Console.
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again

Sometimes, on restarting, I would get the "Serious error" pop-up, which I always sent, and always got different results. Sometimes it would say it was an unknown driver error, sometimes an anti-virus error, once a RAM error. I had just upgraded the RAM when this started, so I ran the M$ testing tool several times, no errors. I also removed the new RAM, which didn't solve the problem, and put it back in
View 8 Replies View RelatedI decided to Delete IE8 Beta yesterday but after it caused probs for my XP operating system I looked up on here how to revert back to IE7 (I don't have SP3 DL'd so it seemed like an easy fix). But now everytime I try to open IE it starts to load and then just disapears (No error message or anything) I ran ad-aware and AVG and found nothing so I don't think its a malware problem. But I went ahead and ran HJT in case you guys can tell something by looking at it. I think I royally messed up this time & I just hope someone can help me out I'm using Mozilla right now but hate that I cannot copy/paste so I really need IE back.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

5.Prior to crash desktop went RED, hence I rebooted and then the issues.
PC was rebooted and this message showed up. I couldn't get to safe mode so I put the XP disc in. I got to the D:winint dir and tried to run bootcfg to scan for the boot file. It came back that it couldn't find it. I was able to see the dir's and data on the 2 drives. I ran chkdsk to see if that would solve the problem, it didn't. Do you think this is a BIOS problem or a missing boot problem. If it was the BIOS would I be able to read the drive. Looking for a fix without destroying everything.

My granddaughter's computer has Windows XP, and the IE 6.0 shuts down constantly. I thought perhaps it had to do with the service pak updates -- although I see that she has computer set for automatic updates. After installing XP Service Pks, XP Professional, IE shuts down and does NOT ALLOW THE UPDATE to proceed. but sends an error report message notifying IE is shutting down.Why is IE shutting down?

my IE6 continually shuts down every minute!!! Im using XP home and have included my hijack log below. My problem is that when i restart my pc, it turns off for about 3-5 seconds then delay 2-3 sec and bios starts, then the os. The question is why it shuts down when i restart my pc. Everything has been working fine now for about 6 months(So I'm 3 mos overdo for a crash) since I had to wipe everthing and restart. Last week I had to tape a Digital Video and then edit it using Windows Movie Maker. The storing was very slow but I finally finished the project. Then I decided to tape one last thing on my Nokia N95 (A phone with a very good Carl Zeiss video recorder in it)..................
When I try to use the "Free up space on your hard disk" function, my machine shuts down every time.

It does not happen if I run in safe mode.
