Svchost.exe - Machine Shuts Down Completely
Apr 19, 2007recently installed trial version of panda av and uninstalled norton systemworks. my machine shuts down completely for no apparent reason at arbitrary times. the system powers off and i must turn the powerstrip on and off and then press the start button on my computer for it to respond.playing a video from Internet online (a golfing parrot, no less) search c: using explorer for "svchost.exe" run spybot s&d w/ latest enhancements av scan checked the event log, and find the error "7000, svchost.exe could not load security center: name, path, etc. might be incorrect." checked task manager and it indicates 3 instances of svchost.exe running. checked c:winntsystem32 using explorer and could not find "svchost.exe" did a search using explorer and it showed "svchost.exe" in c:winntsystem 32 as well as in one of the service pack uninstall folders just before the system shut down

Oct 10, 2007Got a machine on the bench right now (Dell Dimension 3100, XPHE SP2) which shuts down Windows Explorer whenever I try and do a search. I just updated this machine to SP2 and have run SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) and CCleaner on it. There must be a conflict somewhere and I have no idea what files may be conflicting.

Mar 31, 2007The problem is that when I switch the power supply on and press the power button on the front, the power LED lights for less than a second and the immediatly shuts off. Pressing the power button again produces no result. If I switch off and then on the power supply again however, and then press the power button on the front again, the LED turns on for less than a second and then immediatly off, just like the first time.

files on my Windows PC. Basically I would like something like the "Time Machine"
that will be part of the next MacOS. All tools I have yet seen do not create
transparent versions the way I want them to. Either they require user interaction
(like most document management and source code management systems),or they run periodically (once an hour or so). I frequently find myself having screwed up or deleted or overwritten a file, a presentation or a letter, by accident and I want to go back to the original. I don't think I need the functionality to roll back the whole system to a particular point in time. Probably using "My Documents" or something below that would be sufficient. After it might be a question of the storage space at some point.

The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

I thought perhaps it had to do with the service pak updates -- although I see that she has computer set for automatic updates. After installing XP Service Pks, XP Professional, IE shuts down and does NOT ALLOW THE UPDATE to proceed. but sends an error report message notifying IE is shutting down.Why is IE shutting down?

Thus, Microsoft is releasing an update to address changes that have or will take place in several countries. Feb 24, 2009my IE6 continually shuts down every minute!!! Im using XP home and have included my hijack log below. When it shuts down, I receive the famous "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Also, the failed file proccess in the details section of the error box is never the same! I've already run 3 spy & malware programs so I'm pretty sure Im clean.

This happened a few times and a simple turn off/on solved the problem. Now I cannot get it to reboot at all. I am running a IBM NetVista with XP and Norton. Both XP and Norton have auto update so they should be have all current updates.

Last week I had to tape a Digital Video and then edit it using Windows Movie Maker. The storing was very slow but I finally finished the project. Then I decided to tape one last thing on my Nokia N95 (A phone with a very good Carl Zeiss video recorder in it)..................

Dec 15, 2006I keep all of my digital photos in one folder. I have a few AVI files taken with the camera. If I navigate to a sub folder that contains one of these AVI files Explorer shuts down with a "Data Execution Prevention Error"

Oct 6, 2008I had a bad virus on my computer and I wanted to boot it into safe mode. So I tried and everytime I tried it wouldn't work. I kept getting this message on a blue screen saying my video driver failed to initialize and it shut down automatically but it would boot up normal if I didn't try to go into safe mode.So I read that you could set your computer to automatically boot into safe mode from msconfig so I went in and set it to boot into safe mode automatically every time I powered up. So I turned off my computer and tried to.No matter what I do, no matter what option I select the blue screen with the error about my video driver comes up and it shuts down automatically.
