I am having trouble starting my computer I turn it on and it automatically goes to the screen where it ask if i want to start it in safe mode. The first time i started it in normal mode, it started loading but than went black and reset itself. So i tried safe mode and the same thing happened. It does this for every option that i enter. Even in the extra safe modes when i press F8.It just keeps restarting itself.
View 2 RepliesOK, several months ago I tried to upgrade my video drivers for an ATI Radeon board and after that every time windows booted, my screen would go black before windows started. The monitor saw a video signal but that was about it. If I put my old video card back in it would work fine. So I have been dealing with this for a couple of months and tonight I tried to tackle it again. I removed my old drivers, the old card drivers, everything I could think of. It still didn't work. So I stuck my old card back in and tried a few more things back and forth, and then I got the blue screen of death.

View 5 Replies View Relatedmy pc today decided to go black screen right after the Win XP loading screen the one with the blue dots crossing the screen. right when Windows User select screen WOULD load the screen goes black, still on because the monitor never sleeps but black. Safemode and last known config work either, safe mode fails at the loading of .sys files. I have reset the CMOS, tried a new gfx card, and diff things no luck sill.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt is just a backup drive to be used for video editing -not a primary drive. However, once rebooting I get as far as the windows boot screen and then it hangs. The screen goes black, my monitors power down and nothing happens. Occassionally it reboots on it's own accord but instead of seeing the usual dos prompt screen all I get are some nastly looking blocky patterns. I usually have to turn the power off at the wall when this happens. I get no error messages on the screen at any time.
The good news is I CAN BOOT IN SAFE MODE! This is the difference I have found with other similar problems posted. I can boot in 'safe mode' and 'safe mode with networking' no problem. I can see all my HDD's and everything seems fine. From here I've tried doing system restore several times with no effect.
my parents PC got infected with spyware and the browser was hyjacked. I tried all I could to fix this but I couldn't. I tried posting here for help but didn't get anyone who could fix the PC. So I tried the windows restore. So I went to start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. I chose the date and it ran. Once it got to the end it rebooted the PC and it came up with the normal strtup procedure untill it said "loading windows xp" or "starting windows xp" something like that, once that goes I get a black screen with just the curser visible. So I tried to reboot and it came up with the settings like start in safe mode, start windows normally, previous settings etc... I have tried all these and they all do the same, black screen after loading. Now the PC has no windows disc thanks to the companys stop supplying the discs and it also has no restore disc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTurned the computer on today and Windows will not load, gets as far as the black Windows XP page with the loading scroll bar. Nothing happens beyond that. Everything was working fine yesterday and nothing was downloaded or installed to indicate where to start looking. Tried installing 1GB RAM last month to no avail and took it out. Things have been okay since. Have read some posts that suggest using the Windows install CD to repair whatever but I didn't get one with the computer only have the Windows recovery disk.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed a fresh copy of windows XP on my vaio VGN-SZ770N, everything was goin smooth untill i installed SP3, after installing SP3 and tried to restart my laptop, the laptop was on "Windows is shutting down" blue screen for like 30 mins, so i turned it off manually and turned it on again, now it stops on the black screen with windows XP logo and the loading animation and never get passed that, i can use it in safe mode only, the reason of me installing a win xp is that i had exactly the same problem when Vista was installed on the laptop, it wouldnt get passed the black loadin screen as well, im wondering if this is a hardware failure? My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. I got a new motherboard installed because my old one fried itself and the pc was reformatted and windows was reinstalled. Since then, it was working fine. The start-up time had also lowered considerably and it was working perfectly for once.One thing that's been happening for a while, my computer started taking longer to start-up. I figured it was just all the programs etc I have installed. Then, I have this one external drive that I got connected internally. There were times where it wouldn't recognize this drive; it wouldn't show up on My Computer. Otherwise, it was perfectly fine. one of my most important drives (E) has been missing for the last 2 days. it hasn't shown up even once and i'm really worried i've lost data and need to recover it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension E510 PC, Windows XP, only 2 years old. It was working just fine, and then at restart I got message windows cannot start, file system32/root/hal.dll missing or corrupt. I tried doing a windows recovery with installation cd, but it wouldn't even find the windows installation. So, I wanted to do a clean installation, the quick formatting says it cannot do it, the long formatting took hours and at the end said it cannot reformat due to corrupt or damaged hard drive. I tried again to restore, but aftercopying the files and checking the c: drive, it says it cannot create the folder windows/system32/ras and gets hung there. Now, when I reboot I get that that another file in windows is missing or corrupt. When it shows the partitions it shows d: as the one with the most space and c: as one with a lot less space. Does anyone know how to get my system back up, even if it deletes all of my previous files. Thank you very much for your time and effort. I'm really frustrated after trying to fix it for 2 days

When I try to manuall start and get different errors for every service.I cannot get to MSConfig, I get an error that it does not exist.I cannot install drivers because I get a RSC message

I tried this under the Security label, thinking Trojan or Malware, but have had no response, so I'm trying here. XP Home PC runs properly until it is connected to the Internet, and svchost.exe uses 98% of the CPU. The problem does not happen when Windows Update is switched off - but happens again when connected to the WWW and Windows Update is connected. Programs will load from Desktop icons but Taskbar freezes. I have run antivirus, anti adware, Windows Defender, nothing found. a lot about this on the Net but not simple enough for this wrinkly. Your help will be most welcome.

I know it's a good idea to do so on occasion so it keeps your computer in tip-top shape but in all the systems I've had in the past, Windows 95 and Windows 98, it just seemed like it never would complete. AND it took forever!
You'd see the percentage of it increasing and then all of a sudden, it started over. I'd have everything "closed" but I guess there were applications running in the background.
Just wondering. When I set BITS, Background Intelligent Transfer Service to automatic & started using services.msc, after a while, maybe days later, it goes back to manual & stopped. When I look at http://www.theeldergeek.com/background_intelligent_transfer_service.htm it seems to suggest that I could set it either way. Since I never seem to get windows update automatically, although I do get them manually, I just wanted to try this setting to see if it would work for me. . Running win xp pro, sp2, dell dimension 2350, 1 GB mem, 2.0 GHz, cable modem. Usually run daily auto scans with MSAB & AVG7. Also have AdawareSE, Spybot, Spyware Blaster.

After doing some googling I found out that its safe to disable and is simply a program associated with dumprep.exe which is used to send error info to MS. So I disabled it. Should I have done this? Oh and I decided to disable 'write debugging information' in 'Error Reporting'. Is this alright disabled too? I did this cause I dont report system errors to MS and so at least I think its not needed.
