Explorer.exe switches (taken from SyntaxEXPLORER.EXE [/n][/e][,/root, ][[,/select],] Switches/n: Opens a new window in single-paned (My Computer) view for each item selected, even if the new window duplicates a window that is already open./e: Uses Windows Explorer view. Windows Explorer view is most similar to File Manager in Windows version 3.x. Note that the default view is Open view./root,: Specifies the root level of the specified view. The default is to use the normal namespace root (the desktop). Whatever is specified is the root for the display./select,: Specifies the folder to receive the initial focus. If "/select" is used, the parent folder is opened and the specified object is selected.

I dont have this problem with any of my other computers, but they all run XP Pro SP2, yet this desktop is running XP X64 SP2.In my Windows Explorer, I cant view any ID3 tags, nor bring up the properties of songs to edit the ID3 tags.I attached a screenshot to show what I mean, anybody have any ideas? I'm stumped.WMP is fully updated. Windows is updated.

I would like to have windows explorer open with all drives showing and with c:Program Files fully expanded (as if the + next to Program Files were clicked) in the left pane. I am currently using the target, "%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n, /e, C:Program FilesAgent" which expands Program Files only to the extent that Agent is highlighted and expanded. How can I get it to open with all program files visible in the left pane? I must need another switch but don't know what it is or where to put it in the sequence.

I'm having a problem with my explorer.exe. When i start the computer, explorer.exe doesn't start up. I have to manually go into task manager and run it from the new task tab.
The computer was fine friday night. Last thing i did was run it in safe mode and run my Norton anti-virus software, since it takes a few hours to run. But when i restarted the computer on saturday, it greeted me with an empty desktop. I did a few preliminary things such as run some spyware programs (spybot), ran the Norton antivirus again, and did a system restore from a week a go, but to no avail.
I would very much like to get this fix. Im about to start writing my thesis for school, and i need my computer to be at its best behavior. Can't lose a 100 page document few months before its due. Im including the HJT log in case there is some valuable information. I kinda know what should be running in my computer, but maybe you guys can see something different in it.

whenever i start up my computer, internet explorer tries to open up a site called 'chatraffic.com' but it cannot open the site. i've tried numerous things to get the internet explorer to not come up anymore, but nothing has worked. i've tried getting spyware, but about 5 different ones didnt do the trick. does anyone know how i can get this to stop occurring?

I was on Firefox, which didn't have flash, so i decided to switch to Internet explorer, when i opened the program, my screen froze and i could not click on anything, it began to flash randomly, I couldn't do anything so i shut down the computer by the power button. I restarted the computer everything still working, and went back into Internet explorer 8 to see if it was still doing it. Yet again it happened and I powered down. When i started it again, the bios screen had small faint lines going though it in some places it continued to boot and got to a blue screen, and then nothing happens.

I have XP Professional as my operating system and everything was fine until last Friday. I have quite a lot of my favourite music tracks installed on my PC as I like to listen to them while I'm working. The problem I've got is this, I like to edit the ID3 tags on these tracks to take away all of the techie info that come with them. This i do through the properties dialogue box. Until last Friday this dialogue box had four tabs showing, General, Audio Properties, ID Tag and Summary. Somewhere along the line the Audio Properties and ID Tag pages have disappeared. Has anybody got any ideas as to how I can reclaim them.

why do a lot of my XP folders and files in them folders seem to have lost their name tags? In other words it shows the foler but no name underneath it. In an MP3 folder this makes it guesswork as to which files I am picking.I have to move the cursor over the file and wait for the box to pop up for its details.

I have a Compaq M2000 notebook computer (XP Home Edition w/SP2". I can't get DOS EMM (Expanded Memory)to load. I edit my config.nt file to to include this line also "EMM=RAM".Edit my PIF file for the command.com file to include Expanded Memory. Nothing seens to work. Talk to tech support @ Compaq, they do not have a solution to this problem.

I have a fresh install of WinXP Pro, SP3. The dialog box opens up. The drop-down menu for choosing drives expands as expected for about 1 second, then closes back up. This happens no matter what. It just won't stay open/expanded. I must add, that clicking, My Computer, and using THAT drop-down to choose drives works fine. It's only in applications that this happens. I could swear I've seen this behavior before, but I can't place what it is or how to remedy it.

I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?

Almost every single time I boot up, Windows doesn't log in correctly (explorer.exe I believe), none of my taskbar icons appear and the mouse cursor just keeps spinning when moved over it. I have to log-off using the task manager then re-log in, upon which Windows logs in normally and everything starts normally.

Mates amd64 overheated the other day because he was doing some hard core 3d generation overnight with it, non stop. Its just got the new fan to keep it cool, but when it restarts it now gets to the desktop, and then stops, shows no icons or anything. so i diagnosed it was explorer because of this. I do ctrl alt del andtell it to start a new process called 'explorer.exe' and I get this message:This file does not have a program accossiation for performing this action/ Create an accossiation in the folder option pontrol panel.

I installed SP2 after a re-format today. And everything was going smooth at start-up. Then I started noticing that my icons weren't coming up, and my start button was missing! Well I opened task manager and manually started explorer.exe and it came up for 2 seconds and then terminated. I tried again and again, and it never worked. So I did a ton of Spyware and virus scans. I got rid everything, but it still isn't working! I just re-formatted not even 48 hours ago, I don't want to do it again. Oh yeah, and I tried to repair XP with my OS CD, no luck.

I have windows XP home edition running on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop, and have recently done a windows repair, which set me back to service pack one. So I went to the site and downloaded all of the necessary updates, installed, and then went back a second time and did it again and installed SP2. I then received the BSOD when I restarted after SP2. So I started up using F8 to boot into the most recent configuration that worked, and there was no taskbar or start menu. I tried starting up normally, and it started up, but took forever loading (the screen that says loading your settings), and the taskbar is still not there, neither is the start menu.

My son in his wisdom decided to clear some of his long long list of updates from his Laptop and get a set of fresh updates. Now he can't start Windows or in Safe Mode. Where Explorer.exe cannot start, because a normaliz.dll is missing and it freezes the cursor and keys on the log-on page. Can't get to restore or etc. Done a chkdsk, all ok. Can this be repaired using the XP CD in recovery mode, if so how.

I am seeing a number of problems related to windows explorer:Explorer won't start from the desktop icon. Selecting it from Accessories simply returns you to the desktop. My desktop is messed up. It displays a background plus 3 items in the column down the left side - "System Tasks", "Other Places", and "Details". Previously it was just a desktop with icons. I moved the contents of "My Documents" from my "C" drive to the E drive (different partition) in case the partition was failing, but yesterday the E version of MY Documents disappeared. I'd like to get these back. Before the folder disappeared, I would open it and see a treeview of all the subfolders. Immediately afterwards, starting at the top of the tree, the "+" would all disappear, just leaving folders. Also, some of the folders were white, not yellow. I suspect the situation is a combination of screwed up privileges and registry problems, but I'm not sure where to start.

I attempt to start search from the start button explorer hangs. when i open task manager it shows explorer is using up all of the cup time and the only thing i can do is end the task and restart. Whenever i start a search from within a window it works perfectly.

When you double click a Drive or program it loads or starts, a mouse right click tells me that it will open search only, and that is what it does. Open and explore is farther down the list and search is on top. In my 25+ years I've never seen this. Thanks, John

I have a new PC with XP 64 bit/IE 7. I then installed Firefox. There is no icon for IE on the start menu, just the Firefox icon. In all programs, I right clicked on IE to pin to start menu. Now there is an icon there, but I get all the options if you were to right click on IE on your desktop.My work has changed to a new program. Wave to make adjustments to trusted sites and internet properties. Their instructions are to right click on the start menu internet explorer, which gives the options of "browse the internet, internet properties, and remove from this list

I have about 80 computers running in a domain environment.All are winxp pro sp2 or better. The server in Windows 2003 sp2. What I've been experiencing is when a user logs in sometimes explorer doesn't start. Its very random. I can't find a pattern. I just have the user ctrl-atl-del, log off and log back in and all is fine. We are running Symantec AV 10.2 (10.1.7.7000 is what is installed on each pc). I know this is the cause of the problem because of 2 reasons. I uninstalled Symantec AV and the issue disappeared. Also I just upgraded one client from SAV 10.2 to SEP11 and the same thing just started to happen with them. I know others on the net have uncounted the same thing but I have yet seen the fix.

In last 24 hrs I am getting some very strange and vexing behavior from Windows Explorer and the start menu. Hope someone can help. The start menu programs pop up, but disappear before I can click them. Windows screen flickers at the same time when the start menu items vanish, and also flickers at other times. Fonts on the desktop, once just white, are now showing up white on a black rectangular background - didn't do any theme change. Windows Explorer has been crashing from time to time in the last week, no apparent reason. And the monitors are bleeding. Kidding about that last one, but am expecting it soon.
