Do xp sp3 useful to a home PC? I have read in the mircosoft website the following : "This installation package is intended for IT professionals and developers downloading and installing on multiple computers on a network. If you're updating just one computer, please visit Windows Update at http://update.microsoft.com ."My question is if the sp3 is worthful to install on home PC. Bcz, I have installed a vista theme for xp which will not work on sp3.
I went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.
Hi, I have a copy of Windows XP home OEM and I was wondering if when I built my new PC if I would be able to resuse this copy? Its just the Regular XP home OEM cd you used to buy from Newegg.
Kindly advise me how to changemy computer ID in XP home. When I purchased my laptop while travelling abroad the dealer initiated the computer and typed in an ID. This ID "YOUR-AYZ9QSTP1" appears whenever I communicate with other devices. I need to replace it with an appropriate personal ID.
Stop c0000135 {unable to locate component} This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem, But you can't get anywhere on the computer, I tried tapping F8 to get to safe mode if it would let me but it keeps saying keyboard failure. Is there something else I should tap for a DELL computer to get to safemode?
I have a laptop taht had Me on it. I tried to update to Xp home edition the system ran and I ahd choose the option to save my files. However once completed the screen goes black and I have no main screen or menue area on my computer
I'm fixing a computer for someone at work. He had an Emachines computer where the ps failed and took the mobo with it.Hard drive is intact and i'm hoping to still use his license of windows and just update it or something. Is this possible, or does he have to go and repurchase windows now? Also, he's upgrading to a core duo processor and mobo, and on the back of the mobo box it says, "Intel EM64T requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, OS, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel EM64T. Processor will not operate (including 32-bit operations) without an Intel EM64T-enabled BIOS."Does this mean he needs the 64 bit version of windows now as well, or is regular xp home fine? Is this true for all 64 bit processors?
Recently I used the task manager to schedule some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs at different times of the week, now, when i awake in the morning my computer is running, even though it is not a scheduled run, it automactically comes on every day, even during the course of the day ? My OS, Home XP V2002 SP2.
I have a fairly new computer PCU 70 Home Series, running Windows XP Home Edition. For protection I have: McAfee Firewall Norton Anti-Virus Spybot Search and Destroy Ad-Aware SE Personal CW Shredder iClean and the XP Security Centre. System seems to be running slow and not it self. Downloaded unregistered version of 'Registry Mechanic' telling me I have over 350 errors with system, but don't understand what or where these are.
I want to access my home computer via the internet when I work in my office. My home computer is behind a router. I enable the virtual server function of the router. How can I do next? I had installed the VNC/Netmeeting/Dameware in my computer. I knew the cable connection's static IP address and my home computer's virtual ip address.
ou can go to windows explorer and access C drive or D drive or the others but when you open My Computer-where it usually had the C:drive and the cd-rom drive etc it just shows the little flashlite lookiing for them but never finds them. I have a 4 year old Dell Dimension 3100 desktop PC which when I turn it on first thing in the morning everything seems to be slow coming on. I have Avast AV, SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes which I scan with daily. This morning it took about an hour before I could use the computer, the SuperAntispyware banner which comes up every morning came up this morning and just froze on my screen, this stupid box which has something to do with my wireless connection kept popping up asking me to enter my username and password, I kept hitting cancel to make it go away, it wouldn't go away.
I am trying to figure out if the battery is bad in a computer. Turned it off one night and all was well, turn it on the next day and the desktop is differnt one, home page went from google to msn, and the e-mail had to be redone from the start. (out look express) No I am finding more and more things like, the windows tour gude that normally comes up when windows is first put on starts coming up, the files and settings transfer wizard shows up in the start menu even tho it was not used. Spybot was already on the computer but went to start it and had to go through it like you were just putting it on the computer. All these things can it mean something?? I updated and ran spybot and it caught one thing called minibug, fixed it, ran a full adware 2007 scan it caught nothing. have antiviurs up to date, this computer is clean as far as I can tell,
Put a clean install on a computer and it runs great. Only one problem. Some pages when they open do not cover the whole scree like they should. This is hard to explain. When you open the internet the screen is as wide as if should be but what you bring up on the page covers about 2/3s of the page from the middle out. it leaves a couple of inches on both sides. It shows the scroll bars and all its the picture that comes up. If you click on the zoom and make it like 125% it is just right but how can you keep it there? Everytime you change pages you have to use the zoom again if it is the same way, not all pages are like that, but some are
since then i have reformatted my hard drive and used other operating systems on my computer. if i reformat and install windows xp home again, will the key that came with my computer work?i won't be using the same disks that came with my system, i will be using a generic purchased version but i will use the serial that came with my system? is it going to work?
I just got a laptop that is now running 2000 professional (intel pent. 2). My main computer has XP home (intel pent.3) They are both Compaq's. I would like to replace the 2000 on the laptop with xp. I have the install (retail purchase) disc for the xp. It will be a fairly long process using the install disc due to the updates required. Can I download the XP and other desired programs from my main computer onto the laptop (it has all required updates etc.) If so, could someone outline the process involved. I have a files and settings transfer wizard on the main computer that should be of help in the process. I also have Nero that would allow me to burn a bootable disc if necessary.
I'm trying to click on the links on my works intranet from my home computer, but everytime I click on one of the links the message 'done but with errors on page' keeps coming up. It will allow me to click on the email link and open up my emails but will not open any other links. The background to the website should be a buff colour and its now white. I used to be able to access everything but a couple of months back a guy came and 'cleaned up' the computer and since then I can't click the links.
I am using Win XP Home and before I installed a new printer into my system, I was able to turn the computer on in the morning and by the time I had my coffee ready, the computer was ready to go without asking me to log in. Now, I have to log in and wait. Is there a way for me to eliminate the log in procedure since nobody else ever uses the computer?
I have Windows XP OEM Home, that came with new computer about 3-4 years ago. Computer went dead a long time ago and was dissambled. Can i use this Windows XP Home OEM on other computer?
On my portable computer on which I have made a briefcase, I moved some files into it. When I try to update, hoping it will update my home computer, it say some files are read-only and these files were not updated. It is only the files I move in. When I check properties on the individual files, it say they are not read-only. When I check properties on the folders in the briefcase however, the read-only is checked and when I uncheck and go back in, it still is read-only. I am using XP Home Edition.
I read somewhere in this forum that if you had a CD Key stuck on your computer you could install the Windows XP CD of your choice. What I mean to say is this: I have an HP Compaq computer that came with the Windows XP OEM bundled version and its own product Key stuck to the computer. So after the 90 day support with HP, I got rid of all the crapola that comes with their bundle, (AOL, Disney Channel, Silly things, etc.) and reformatted with a copy of Windows XP OEM, using the Product Key on the computer. NO Problem. I have done this several times before and only had one problem, which was resolved through phoning Microsoft Activation Center.

In using Ghost 2003 to make a copy of my HD, (and I tried twice) I got (both times) the message that a range of sectors (some 64 consecutive) were damaged. The destination disk was brand new and I may need to return it.)But I first thought to run Chkdsk, but found that without my recovery disk (that's the one that has my XP on it, right?), only the primary drive would be checked. Tfhe notice read: "The chkdsk command with the parameters listed below is only available when you are using the Recovery Console. The chkdsk command with different parameters is available from the command prompt.
I have read numerous articles pertaining to problems encountered after downloading SP4. If a computer is going to be used for home use only without multiple users, and only a printer, scanner and a DSL connection, should SP4 be installed? Are there any major benefits (or drawbacks) having SP4 installed? What is the best service pack to have installed for a home use computer?
I used to use the XP home netwroking to provide internet connection to my xbox 360 i used the "home or small office network" wizard and chosed the first option which says "This computer connects directly to the internet..." so it takes the internet connection from the wireless network , and provide it the xbox through the LAN connection and it was working without any problem for a long time but lately i couldn't connect to the internet in the xbox and i found that the error was in the IP address the laptop is not giving the xbox an IP address at all
Yeah I have had this Sony Vaio PCG-FRV37 labtop for almost 4 years now. I just recently discovered that my friend who helped me with installing Windows XP SP2 installed
Professional instead of Home, which came with my computer. Is there a way I can fix that? Or do I have to strip my computer clean and reinstall but with Home edition this time? This has been a problem because I went to go do an upgrade from the Microsoft site but it said I was probably a victim of fake windows. So that's what I am more worried about because I got the windows XP program from Sony pre-loaded.
Also I dunno if this has to do with Windows or not. But my Matshita UJ-810 dvd/cd drive will not open when I click it's eject button. I have to use iTunes to open it. Also it seems to be unable to read cds.
