i am having windows xp with service pack 3,intel 1.8 ghz,1 GB RAM,i have APC UPS for my system,now i want to shutdown my pc if it runs in UPS battery,i want to automatically shutdown my pc if it's running in UPS battery power,is there any tool to do that?

I am using musicmatch jukebox. excellent program, however mim.exe added in vs 10 is rather annoying. slows shutdown dramatically. would like to write a batch program that kills mim.exe then runs shutdown.exe(-r, -u, etc). i am thinking that killing mim will allow xp to shutdown properly(at least the same day....a little humour...very little).

Like the title says, everytime i turn my machine on the windows page appears on start and the load bar just keeps going. I left this running for an hour and nothing happened.
I have read tons of stuff and tried loads of stuff and yes you guessed it nothing has sorted it out.
My computer knowledge isnt great so if this requires Bios work or Command prompts i will need some detailed help.

i remote into my XP box everything is fine except when i shut down using a shutdown shortcut and other shutdown utilities no matter what after i get booted off the remote session the computer looks like its shutting down then stays on for a few seconds then a BSOD appear. I have been trying to figure out why for the past week and no solution so im hoping someone can chime in..The problem is only on remote if i shut down locally never a single BSOD and no hardware has changed. No driver issues. ive read and tried all the usual solutions. Need someone here to chime in on specifics.Ive also tried to remote in with bare minimum and no go. same thing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI got an inspiron 1150 I keep in my office... one day, I went to use it, and the screen was froze up, so I hard reset it and it wuldnt boot. Just a flashing cursor on the top left corner, no post, boot screen, nuttin... if I unplugged the ac adapter, it would get to boot screen then freeze. So I bought a new ac adapter. No go. Still wont boot. Locks up. Battery indicator light dont show amber but it does recharge the battery.So... I got it booted, and then when I plug in the ac adapter, boom, instant lock up...Ive tried booting just on ac and just on battery... no go...SO i reinstalled xp... gets to the "installing devices" part, at 35 minutes remaining and locks up every ime...

View 14 Replies View RelatedThis is weird. I have to go through the shutdown procedure twice, i.e., Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok, then Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok again. It will then shutdown properly. The same thing happens when I try to "Restart." After doing the first shutdown sequence, everything is normal. I can open programs, surf the web, etc. It's as if I never tried to shut it down at all. Only after the second shutdown procedure will it shutdown fully. One note: When I go through the first shutdown sequence, my taskbar pops up and the desktop is darkened. After clicking Ok, the taskbar autohides and my desktop returns to its normal color.I have only had this problem for the last month or two. Before that, all was fine. It's not critical since I can shut it down. It's just annoying to have to do it twice.I have Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, build 5.00.2195.

When I select "Start" then either shutdown or reboot, my desktop will flicker a couple of times, and then nothing appears to happen. I must select "start" again and then either shutdown or reboot and then they will work as expected.

Turned it off one night and all was well, turn it on the next day and the desktop is differnt one, home page went from google to msn, and the e-mail had to be redone from the start. (out look express) No I am finding more and more things like, the windows tour gude that normally comes up when windows is first put on starts coming up, the files and settings transfer wizard shows up in the start menu even tho it was not used. Spybot was already on the computer but went to start it and had to go through it like you were just putting it on the computer. All these things can it mean something?? Normally at start fan is very loud for about 3 seconds then It seems to switch something and goes quieter and eveything comes on. Now when fanstats you can here a small ticking sound ..like something trying to do something..if you know what I mean.It will not turn monitor on either.

What I am now trying is to get date and time off a server upon startup. The problem is windows xp won't synchronise with time servers if date does not match! When i put new battery in the power meter reads 52%. The battery is not charging however! When the power plug is pulled out the battery light does not come on! The battery is a brand new 9cell, so im sure it is not the battery. I suspect this is why refurbished battery died, or has it?
