Normally there is only one account on my computer. But I see something added a second one. What is it and why is it there? I did a scan for adware / viruses and I removed / fixed everything I found. Look here
View 6 RepliesI have a Pentium 4, 2.4 ghz, 2 GB ram. I have automated antivirus updates/checking from Panda, and spyware/adware detection/removal. I do jsp development using JDeveloper and on occasion my system would lock up (no Ctrl-Alt-Delete). I put up with it thinking that it was a JDeveloper peculiarity. A few weeks ago my system started locking up when the Panda antivirus software was running on start up. So I stopped the service and tried to run Panda manually. It locked up. I uninstalled Panda and tried another antivirus software. It locked up. Also, my spyware program locks up and it will intermittently lock up now at other times when I'm not using any of the above software

When I googled it , it told me it came from Microsoft. If they have a user account on my machine don't they have acess to everything on my computer? I seem to remember downloading Update so maybe it came from that. I deleted the account right away anyway
View 14 Replies View RelatedI went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.

I screwed up and clicked something while trying to change desktop icon. Some message opened and said I'd have to allow something to happen so without thinking I stupidly allowed it. Now almost all my folders have this annoying blue task bar running down the left side of the folders. It's a royal pain, takes up space on the page and I can't seem to find how to undo the damn thing.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy "Fonts" folder just appeared in the "my computer" part of my pc (windowsxp home edition) and i don't know how it got there, it was maybe after i defraged my system but not sure, nothing is coming up in the context menu when i right click it except explore and create shortcut and it is classed as a system folder even tho i still have the proper fonts folder under control panel and in my "windows" folder i can't get rid of it. i don't want it there coz i never put it there this probably sounds stupid but it is really annoying me because i like to be in control of my computer

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I was about to use Norton Speed Disk to defrag, I noticed about 4 Gigs of "unmovable" file space allocated at the end of my C disk which was not there twenty four hours ago. The same space on the disk is listed as "Allocated" by Auslogics Defrag program. I defrag about every other day so I know it wasn't there before. The only major change I've made recently was to install SP3. But I also installed SP3 on my laptop and have noticed no such evidence of any file that huge listed as "unmovable" by Speed Disk or "Allocated" by Auslogics Defrag program like I have on my desktop. Another interesting thing is that when booted in Safe Mode that file does not appear in the disk usage graphics for those two defrag programs. And, in Safe Mode, my "free space" is increased by about 4 Gigs compared when booted normally. This huge file only appears when booted normally. Maybe you might think that with hard drives so huge these days I should just not worry about it. The computer seems to be running okay. But it bothers me to have this huge file, or whatever it is, just suddenly appear and take up so much space. Can anybody help me figure out what this is and get rid of it?

I do not have any Office apps installed on my PC however, Seemingly from out of nowhere ctfmon.exe has appeared on my startup list and as many times as i have unchecked it from starting, the next time Windows starts and i run mconfig.THERE IS AGAIN.Is this causing any harm? Could it be some kind of virus or spyware or malware? Should I just leave it alone and let it startup with Windows or should I remove it from my system so it cannot return to startup.If I should get rid of it PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN REMOVE IT SAFELY. I would prefer to remove it if I can because I don't like the idea of an uneccesary process running in the background on my system.

Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. When I'm using the internet the content of that icon will just be automatically opened in different tab without clicking it and just pops multiple times after being closed. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.

A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed and I messed it up.I tried doing loads of stuff and I had to repair the master boot record and boot.ini file.Then when I booted on xp, the blue screen appared.I checked my hardware and did loads of tests but didn't find much problems and I if I did, I didn't understand them.For example I had test problems with my parallel ports and serial ports and the System Stress Test failed in RAM Memory.Anyway, I desided to use the repair installation on my CD Windows XP Pro SP1. But each time it arrived at "installing hardware", it failed and just stoped. tried a few times but it kept stoping. And now the repair doesn't even start... all I see is the mouse.

It gave me a blank account as if I had nothing on it... ever. is there some way to recover my account or at least scavange some files(like my all-important hundreds of bookmarks full bookmarks file) from it? no system restore is not turned on, sadly.

I know all about pressing Ctr+Alt+Del twice and typing in your account and if that doesn't work, to use the "Administrator" account to enable your main account. The problem is that my administrator account doesnt even seem to have any administrator privelages... its just as useless as the guest account, or so it seems.I don't know what to think. If i go to computer management and check out the users i see: Administrator, Guest, and some other SUPPORT_388... but not my main account. IF i go to documents and settings, i see all the accounts, including administrator and guest and my main account. So what's happening?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy owner account (where most of my files are) has been magically changed to "account unknown" under the System Properties/Advanced/User Profiles. I "see" the "Account Unknown" listed, but I am unable to access it. I tried signing in as the administrator, but no luck. I checked Windows help online, but no luck. I called Sony Vaio support, (support?), no luck. I am running XP Home Edition SP2 will all updates. I have found out that the files aren't gone, according to online readings, but getting to them is another matter. I'm a minister and all of my sermons funerals baptisms etc. are connected with the "Owner" profile.
