Last week, my home page was hijacked by spyware (I think), it was actually 2 pages in length, the bottom of first page was a note "Removal instructions". I have windows XP SP2.I was able to go into the registry, with the help of another forum, and delete the offending file. Now my home page is white with my general icons, (I used to have the pretty beach picture of windows XP). I can't seem to restore the picture.I have also discovered the same file in "my computer" in system 32. When I press delete the icon disappears for about 3 seconds and then returns. The files name is "Twain Tech" and in system 32 as "Twunk 16" and "Twunk 32"
I was trying to repair my desktop Windows XP Home installation.I have the original restore cds, but did not want to do a clean sweep, so I got hold of an XP Home cd, did all the repairing and copying of files, entered the key on the COA attached to my desktop, and all the process was fine. At the end, it asked me to activate the copy of windows, which I accepted because my key on the COA is all "clean". However, the process does not go anywhere, it only takes me to the desktop, which is blank and has nothing, not even the taskbar visible. The computer freezes.I have repaired other desktops and laptops I have at home before, and the process worked no problem, so I don't know what i did wrong this time.
Before I did the repairing on this desktop, I had disabled my ethernet adapter because I was connecting to the internet via wireless. So I'm thinking the problem is that the wireless card drivers got deleted, and the system cannot enable the ethernet adapter to connect to the internet to activate windows. First question is: Is this the case? Please help.I am not sure if the XP cd I got is an OEM version, or full retail. Second question: Could this be the problem? Finally, I was thinking of connecting an older hard disk that has a working copy of windows on it to my desktop (instead of the one I "repaired"), boot from it, and then activate the ethernet adapter, so I can then plug the original hard disk and hope the activation process to work.
i have a dell dimension 2400 - running XP Home, which was infected with numerous viruses and spyware - these were cleared - though due to its very nature a number of os files were removed/deleted. I then decided to run a repair of windows XP home to reinstall these files. However, on numerous attempts, the repair gets through to the Preperation Phase ok, and then gets stuck at the "installing Windows" phase, with 33 minutes to go - with the "installing Devices" box at around 80% bar completed.Has anyone any ideas what to do and fix this - apart from a clean install of course!
My wife bought me an Acer pc pentium 4 etc etc running Win xp home.I am trying to repair this O/S but in real terms I would like to use XP pro 2nd ed. again! When I got the machine it had Windows pre installed and now I have a few probs I really would like to either repair the O/S thats here or better still Format and install XP Pro ! Other alternative is to put XP pro on another drive ....The system came with 80gb split into two and I have also an exterior H/D which is 250gb could I do this/
when I connect to the internet (dial up), my home page doesn't come up, instead I get a "page cannot be displayed. If I right click on my ISP provider and click "open home page" then it will come up. I've tried various "solutions" yet still have problem. Even when the home page is up, the other is lurking behind it.
I am using a computer with Win98se on it, but have been given one with XP Home loaded on it,which is a new "learning curve" for me. I like Excite as my home page, but am having trouble loading it on the XP machine. I have checked these forums and Googled it, but can't seem to find an answer to my particular problem. When I attempt to load Excite, all I get is a blank page with a left and right arrow and pause button in the middle left of the page. The address is correct on the address line.

I have had weatherbug for years and thought it was a good program.Today weather bug wanted to me to click on an 'update'. Zone alarm asked and I accepted. When I did all Weather bug added them selves to my address bar (at the top along with back, stop, refresh, home, etc.putting 2 icons that were not there before, their icon along with another showing what the weather was. Also weatherbug put in a 'search bar'like yahoo has.I certainly did not ask for this.My links bar disappeared. The links that were showing on the bar below the address were now listed on the right side as links, which I had to click on to get the list of what was originally showing.I am using XP.I could not get the link bar back, I didn't know how, so I used the restore point from yesterday. Now my home page looks like it should.Actually my question is, I am really irritated with Weatherbug, I don;t like that they just took over my home page and changed it.I am thinking of deleting the program and using another weather program. What weather program would you suggest in place of Weather bug?
