Registry Defender Keeps Showing Up
Feb 18, 2009why is this happening and how can I stop it from showing up - is there a settings or should I install it ?I did restrict it but yet it keeps showing.

Paintshop Pro Short Cut Not Showing Up - System Registry
May 29, 2007After cloning one HD to another I noticed that the icons to many programs were not showing up. By that I mean the icon for say my PaintShop pro short cut was not showing up. When I manually try to set it that does not work either. A couple "registered" or unlocked programs had to be redone...in particular WinXp (home) was asking to re-register and song show plus wanted the unlock key again.
This is a minor annoyance, however after upgrading the MB, CPU and memory I ran Registry mechanic and it listed a ton of registry errors. In some cases, like the default icon for Paintshop pro it's looking for a C:/Windows/Installer folder that does not exist in either my new drive or the drive that was my source. I don't want to go ahead and fix all the errors, most of which now seem to be part of the missing icon issue I had to begin with. I might just end up having to reinstall the OS and all the other Apps we use for this projection system that doubles as our recording PC. My problem is that I just don't know how much of a problem these registry errors are going to be down the line. What got me thinking of scanning the registery was after the upgrade to the new MB I notice that on shut down the OS is hanging and won't complete the shut down.
Ultimate Defender / Can't Remove It
Sep 18, 2007I have Windows XP SP2. Somehow Ultimate defender has claimed my system.I have scanned it housecall and stinger and regular micro trend full scan. They have not removed it. I then used combofix, it seemed to help, but I don't think it's all the way off. I see explorer.exe goes to 99% in the tak manager. When I bring up a ie browser, it tries to go to the ultimate defender page. I looked in the registry, I don't see any "ultimate" settings.Here is a hijackthis report after the combofix run.

Mar 12, 2006I have Defender Pro 10-1 on my computer. The Virus protection part of the program expired in just a few months and I don't want to pay more to have a new key, I paid enough already. I was trying to install Norton and it says it cannot install because Defender Pro is there. I tried to uninstall through add and remove.I tried the uninstall that came with Defender Pro, and tried to go into program files and delete the folder myself. It will not uninstall because it is still running. I have exited everything I know how to exit.

What is bizarre is when I manualy try to browse to the content.IE5 folder it is not under Temporary Internet Files. However there is a Content.IE5 folder under Temp.

Apr 1, 2006I recently installed windows defender beta2 on my computer. When I ran it, it showed that I had a medium risk possible hijacker on my computer. I clicked to repair the issue and that's when all hell broke loose. I have lost everything on my computer. I restarted my computer and all I get is my desktop background minus the task bar, start menu and desktop icons. I also lost Internet Explorer. I can can bring up the task manager screen and use that to browse my folders. All of my folders are listed but most of them are empty. I am able to get online but since internet explorer folder is wiped out, I cannot surf the interent. I just get a screen showing that I need to install Internet explorer. I can receive my Juno e-mail account. When I go into DOS and type in tree, it does list all my folders and the items that these folders are suppose to include. This leads me to believe that my data is all in my computer smewhere but I cannot get access to it. I have tried to start the computer in safe mode but it won't allow me to do so. THe screen just flashes on and off.

Registry Mechanic Does Not Delete Registry Entries
Jul 13, 2006I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

On Control Panel/Regional & Language Options/Languages/Details/Advanced the "turn off advanced text services" always seems to get rechecked. Even if you uncheck it the language bar on the task bar does not appear (even though it is ticked on Taskbar/right-click/Toolbars). If the Language bar option becomes available on Control Panel/Regional & Language Options/Languages/Details/Settings, when you open it all the Language Bar Settings are greyed out.

Nov 19, 2007I am going to try to explain this as best I can. This is a friends computer. She has this sewing machine that has a memory stick that she plugs into her computer. As you can see on the 1st screen shot "removable Drive L" is NOT present. It used to show but it does not show anymore. She sad that she clicked on "EJECT DISC", and now Removable Drive L " does not show UNLESS she has the memory stick plugged in as you can see in the 2nd screen shot. So she is wanting to know how she can get "removable Drive L" to show up again, like drives. G,H,I and J. I am asking her for more information because now that I look at these screen shots, I see in the 2nd one that she actually is showing "6" Removable drives.
