Pictures No Longer Want On Desktop
May 16, 2006When I go into control panel then to display desk top I noticed I have many pictures I no longer want for my desk top. Any ideas how to remove the ones I no longer want?

Desktop Icons No Longer Transparent
Sep 1, 2005i setup my office computer to be accessed remotely from home (both xp pro). i did this for the first time yesterday. this morning when i get to work i open outlook and it looks funny. when i hover over any menu item or toolbar the option is highlighted white (instead of its default blue)plus, each toolbar is "outlined".it looks like it has a perforation around it.i tried opening other office programs and they are all the same no other programs are experiencing problems.it looks like it is showing 16 Bit colors.my desktop icons are no longer transparent. i ran into this before and never figured it out it just corrected itself.

(It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.

Dec 1, 2008I have taken a series of pictures on different days and downloaded them into a folder in My Pictures. I need to put them in a sequence so I right clicked each picture and re-named it as follows: 001jpg, 002jpg and so on for 100 pictures. In view, I selected arrange icons by modified and all the pictures moved to the sequence I wanted. All is well and good until I copied the folder to a CD. All the pictures reverted to their original sequence instead of the sequence I put them in.
How can I copy the folder with the pictures in the sequence I put them in? Whenever I open the picture file to look at that folder, they are always in the sequnce I put them in
My Pictures Has Unwanted Pictures
Dec 1, 2008I am using an old Dell with XP and Internet Explorer 7. When previewing some images I have stored in My Pictures, I find when using the 'previous' and 'next' buttons I am able to pull up the next or previous pictures as I should. But when I e-mail an image to myself and then use the 'next' or 'previous' buttons, I begin to get images from web sites I have recently visited even if it is just my home page. While scanning my home page, for instance, I collect dozens of images in a matter of minutes.The only change I have made recently is a download of info from a digital camera disc to enable me to store pictures from my new camera.
I did a system restore to a couple of days before that download but I'm still copying dots, dashes, logos and pictures or frames from videos.
F5 Key No Longer Works

May 26, 2006A Dell Dimensions 2400 with Pentium 4, 256MB memory and a 80GB hard drive. He is running windows xp home edition. We opened up the tower to clean out all the dust using air cans. We were very careful not to touch any wiring or connections to the CD roms or hard drive. We were ready to install 256MB chip more of memory to make it 512MB. However he purchased the wrong chip so we did not install it. I did remove the memory stick it had to show him what to purchase. I then made sure we reinstalled it back properly and tightly. We also installed tune up 2006 and Norton system works to clean out his system. I had tested the cd roms and they seemed to be working. Then my nephew tried to install his I-pod software and the program did not open itself. He then went to my computer to open the software manually and realized that the d:/drive and the e:/drives were not showing. I tried updating the drivers with no luck. My next step was to delete the cd rom's in device manager and reboot the sysytem. The system recognized the hardware and installed the drivers but the cd roms still do not appear in My Computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW I also tried to do a system restore to an earlier date but windows xp could not restore to an earlier date.

I bring up Task Manager, highlight the "not running " program and click "end task" which brings up another box that says "end program". I replaced the HD and reinstalled XP Pro with service pack 1 from the original CD supplied by Dell. So far so good. I went through all the updates, downloaded and installed service pack 2 for Pro. Now when XP loads it no longer displays "Professional" It displays as if its XP Home. In other words, Windows XP with out the Professional banner. Jan 12, 2005I'm not sure exactly what brought this on since this is a nearly fresh install of windows, but I have had a problem accessing any web content with internet explorer except for the web itself (thanks to firefox). This means, Help files, Windows update, web forms, and many other features are completely unusable. Whenever I acess any kind of content through IE or it's engine embedded in windows, instead of displaying the HTML I am prompted to download it (open/save dialogged) this is a serious problem and I dont want to re-install windows yet again but it looks like I might have to if things keep going this way.. any help? I go to manual, click start, and it says 'could not start automatic update service on local computer. Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it'. Now when I go to auto updates in control panel, it is set on automatic, however it doesn't do it.

Apr 26, 2010About 5 hours ago my pc crashed, since rebooting my usb keyboard no longer works when it reaches windows login. I'm completely lost with this and it's infuriating me.
- I'm running windows xp
- Never had this issue before with keyboard, it's always worked until 5 hours ago
- There is no fault with the keyboard, I've tried in on 2 other systems and it works fine
- There's no problems with the USB ports all other usb devices work and work on all the ports.
- The mouse as well as all other usb devices work fine
- I've uninstalled the keyboard several times and reinstalled with no luck
The keyboard is a generic dell one using a dell system.
- The device manager doesn't report any issues. The keyboard is listed as installed and working properly.
- The keyboard does work in BIOS just not in windows
The only way i can get into windows is to use remote desktop from another pc so i can use another systems keyboard to control this pc which is what im doing now.Having endlessly searched for a solution, nothing has worked. There was a registry fix but it hasn't worked. One thing I thought may have caused it was before I had made a registry change to IRPStackSize to try to resolve a network issue. I reverted this change back and still no response from keyboard.
Computer No Longer Turns On
Dec 30, 2007I was leaving to work, so I left the computer in standby. I got home about 7 hours later and when I tried to return to desktop, the fan went on loudly but kept on going and nothing would be displayed on the screen. I just turned it off by the front panel button and went to sleep. This morning, I tried unplugging the whole machine from the electricity plug and replugging it in..well it worked! It started but the fan was constantly working for some reason.I downloaded SpeedFan and at the time the temp was like 43 (normal?). Then I turned it off to see what was wrong with the fan. I opened the box and did a small vacuum just trying to collect the dust.after that NO LUCK.The computer doesn't even come on anymore. I have important files on it.I'm going to be screwed.

Dec 19, 2007Am running a new laptop with XP SP2. Been working perfectly for a month. I was getting program exceptions in IE6, so I downloaded and installed Firefox. It worked OK, but I could not remove the annoying Google search bar, so I uninstalled the whole Firefox using their uninstall tool that comes with it. Now, I have remnants in the Firefox directory, it didn't do a clean uninstall. But worse- now when I click on any desktop icon (shortcut), Windows asks me what program to use! It opens a window and I select Internet Explorer and check to always use this option, but it does not "remember", so the next time I click that (or any)shortcut, it asks again.

Pro SP2 Laptop No Longer Boots Normally
Nov 4, 2007After several weeks of successful running, my Toshiba Satellite T7200 Core2 Duo Laptop (2 Gb DDR2 SODIMM, 100 GB SATA HD) WinXP Pro SP2 with latest patches (Windows Update on) no longer boots normally:System hangs in Windows Start Up screen.Boots and runs successfully in Safe Mode On 11/01, I manually created a System Restore Point after several days of successful operations including booting. When the system hangs in the Windows Start Up screen, and I boot into Safe Mode, the system is successfully booted into normal WinXP Pro SP2 by using the manually created Restore Point. No other (WinXP created) restore points work, i.e., they all hang in the Start Up screen during boot.
