Normal.dot File In Word (on Close Telling Template Changed)
Sep 4, 2009when i close a doc i get a message telling global template changed.
I searched my c drive and found many normal.dot file even when i delete it remains.

Opening A Word Document- Slow When Clicking On A Word File?
Aug 10, 2005When I click on a Word document (on my Desktop, for example), it seems to take a long time for the document to open. Yet if I have Word open and click on the document it opens instantaneously. Similarly, when I right click on a document, photo, spreadsheet file, it takes what seems a long time for the menu (Open, Run as, Send to, Delete, etc..) to open.

Apr 15, 2008I just noticed this problem, but I'm not sure how long it's been going on because I seldom use IE. When I start IE the process iexplore.exe starts up, which is normal, but when I close IE, iexplore.exe keeps running, which is not normal. If I start IE again it will start another iexplore.exe, so I can have several running and the only way to stop them is to kill them with task manager. Now another thing I have happening which is even weirder is I'll start IE, then kill iexplore.exe and IE keeps running like normal. I've run all the anti-virus and anti-spyware stuff I can think of and everything comes up clean. I'm current with all Windows updates?

Feb 28, 2007I recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.

Jul 26, 2005Working on a friends computer abroad with WORKS, I then e-mailed the finished work to my computer at home ready for my return. Sadly, now I'm back home, Word 2000 will not open the file except in jibberish.

It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.
Cannot Delete Folder - Close Any Program That May Using The File

Apr 15, 2008About two day's ago I looked in the PF folder in my machine and as usual the PF's were .txt (except the Layout.ini, of course). But just now I happened to take a look at them and noticed that they have all changed to .pdf in some way. e.g. if I recall correctly an AVG Free file would be [something like] AVG75Free.txt but now it is AVG75FREE_516A1262.EXE-225B0AE9.pf and when I attempt to open it I get an error saying:Adobe Reader cannot open AVG75FREE_516A1262.EXE-225B0AE9.pf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example if was sent as an email attachment and hasn't correctly decoded).My default pdf reader is Foxit. And the proficiency with which files/programs are opened does not seem to have been retarded.I don't recall doing anything that I believe may have caused this. And the only thing I have downloaded since last looking in the PF folder is TweakUI. Could the cause simply be a matter of non-intelligent design?
System backups are of no help as I apparently deleted any such when I cleaned house yesterday. The closest I have come to fixing the problem is to change the file type in Folder Options to Text Document using the TXT file extension which places the Notepad icon on the PF files (even after restart) instead of the usual [plain] text doc icon. But the PF files are now otherwise building and opening properly. Is having the Notepad icon on the PF files a problem? Complete AVGFree a/s and AVGFree a/v scans with current updates indicate no problems. I am using XP Home SP2 with all critical updates.
Norton Changed File Extensions From Exe To Lnk

File System Changed From NTFS To RAW?
Jun 29, 2005I don't know how this happened. But when I went to my D drive which is My Documents, the drive was empty. Though when I check the drive properties it shows that 18G is being used, plus it's showing that the file system is RAW. Not sure how it got that way because it should be NTFS. I am able to view My Pictures and My Music by viewing from the start menu and going to My Pictures or My Music, but when I go to My Documents it's empty.
Now my question is how do I recover those missing files? I'm assuming that they are around because My Pictures and My Music are two of the files that are in my documents folder. This just leaves 25% of the drive I can't view. I can't do system restore because I don't have the D drive being monitored, so I can't do that. I did a virus scan and a spyware scan and the system is clean. Another thing I noticed is if I try to save something to the D drive it will appear to be the only item on the drive, but when I click refresh it will vanish.
Uninstalled Word Perfect - Now Word Isn't Working

Jan 9, 2007I am trialing drive encryption (TrueCrypt) and have created an encrypted D drive. I set my paging file to exist on the D drive so it is also encrypted and therefore safe and done the same with the temp directories.The problem is the screen goes all funny at boot time (splits into 4 sqiggly screens) and then comes up. It was unable to create the pagefile as there is not yet a d drive.
You have to use truecrypt to make the d drive by putting in the password, which makes sense since that's what keeps the data safe.The temp directories are used after the d drive becomes available but the pagefile.sys is not created or used that I can tell. This is a problem because either it means I have to keep the pagefile on the unencrypted C drive which is a security risk or I have to do without a pagefile entirely.
Explorer Needs To Close - Click Close On The Message
Jul 7, 2005Long time since I posted for help but right now I have the Windows Explorer message Winows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience. in the middle of my screen It appears on boot and remains there .If I click close ,the desktop icons disappear and reappear and the message also reappears several seconds later,In those few seconds things seem to operate normally but after it appears, things on the screen just blink once when I click on them and nothing else happens. If I click something , and then click close on the message, it clears the desktop and reappears the previous click is then executed and the lockup is back .I can do things one at a time by repeating this closing process and the application on the screen does not close but reappears also

Mar 1, 2005I changed from a dial-up connection to cable (Road Runner). Since then, my search engines have changed (when I search from the IE address bar, it uses MSN search now), and many pages that load, although faster, have the message "error on page" at the bottom. Outlook Express became my default email with the Road Runner email address, but most of the time it does not respond. Also, several games are slow to respond or do not respond at all (specifically CSI games and Hunting Unlimited). I run adaware and spybot at least once a week if not more, and defrag regularly. Are there extra precautions I should take with a cable connection?
