I am missing everything from my desktop except for the background pic. The only way I can open programs and files is to go through the Windows Task manager and open them individually. While trying to fix the problem, I noticed explorer.exe is no where to be found. Has anyone ever heard of this problem and if so, is there any way to fix it without having to reload windows or do a system repair?
I was listening to music yesterday when this randomly happened. I can manually start explorer.exe through the task manager, everything appears for a few seconds, but then it disappears again. I have tried system restore, and restore to last known good configuration, but they didn't work. I ran my spysweeper, and it picked up an adware called "Virtumonde".
i ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools. The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.
I installed America OnLine's new V9 "Security Edition", which has its own toolbar (called a deskbar). It comes with a warning that sometimes it makes the Windows XP Toolbars disappear. It also has a procedure for how to fix that by uninstalling the AOL Deskbar (which didn't work for me).Overall this AOL version was problematic so I uninstalled it and went back to regular AOL V9 which works fine (but I haven't been able to get the XP toobars thing fixed).I can enable the QuickLaunch Toolbar the normal way (right click on the taskbar, then Toolbars, Quicklaunch) and I also did it by right clicking Start then Taskbar then Properties and clicking the checkbox telling it to show the quicklaunch, but it never stays enabled when I reboot.
Just installed Windows XP, and I can't remove or hide the toolbar or the address bar from Explorer not Internet Explorer. When I click on View/Toolbars, both Standard Buttons and Address Bar are checked and disabled, meaning I can't un-check them. How can I un-check them? There must be some registry hack that they did to prevent us from hiding the toolbar. I'm not sure if this is related, but in Internet Explorer7, I can't seem to customize the toolbar? Again, when I right click on the toolbar, I select Customize Command Bar, and the Add or Remove Commands menu item is disabled.
Ok, Im DESPRATE for help right now, and im going to explain my whole situation which is grim I have a SONY VAIO 2.53 GHZ P4 Processor, 512 RAM, Windows XP pro (not so valid edition) 2 year old Comp. And I have 2 hard drives both 200GB, C: (windows and programs) D: video editing files...
I have a project to turn in TOMORROW... I could get in Big trouble and Fail a class if i dont get this done TONIGHT
SITUATION:
Last Night I noticed when I was editing that some of my avi exports were all distorted and fragmented... So i figured "I havent EVER ran defrag (stupid me) on this hard drive maybe I should defrag it" So I looked into a defrag program called "diskeeper" I defragged C: (windows drive) and attempted to defrag D:.... I came to my comp and discovered an error that just said failure with the drive or something... After that I could not access (D I restarted, diskcheck did not work, and I dont want to do system restore... I posted on another websites forum and someone said I probably went over the 137GB limit... I think when I went over the 137GB limit, it possibly overflowed over some kind of boot files or something that lets windows read the disk i dont know (not that techincal with computers)So i looked into that, and I have an ATA card... and Windows NO service pack XP pro... Ive heard things about having a 48 bit bios or something... And after installing WINDOWS XP SP1... I try to get on my computer and i load windows
System running fine now save for one thing -- my desktop page is a complete blank. It takes ages to load and then I see nothing but the desktop picture. No icons, no McAfee boot, and no toolbar. Everything has to be run from the task manager. Recently my lady, who uses the other desktop, doesn't even have a desktop picture -- it just comes up blue. She thinks she once saw a message about lack of memory.
This is how to add or change the Explorer and Internet Explorer toolbar background image.First run Regedit : Start > Run > regedit Then go to : HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Toolbarand in the left pane add a new string value. The name of the string should be BackBitmapand its value is the .bmp file and its location.Enjoy.Just double click My Computer if u did right then it must work.To apply the background only to the Internet Explorer toolbar name the value BackBitmapIE5, to apply it only to the Windows Explorer toolbar name it BackBitmapShell.
Started surfing the net and realized I miss my cool toolbar skins I use to make everyday when I had windows 98. Is it possible to do this with Windows XP?
While visiting a website a trojan horse/spyware program intalled a annoying toolbar in IE that does not allow it to be removed. How can I get rid of it manually!
I like a clean desktop so I choose to hide my desktop icons and use a desktop toolbar. I arrange items on the toolbar with the ones I use most at the bottom. Since last Friday, the items on the toolbar keep rearranging themselves whenever I shutdown and restart the computer. I have looked every where I know to look and I cannot find a solution. I've tried a System Restore but I get a message that the system cannot be restored to a previous time. Could there have been a Windows Update that is causing this and if so, how can I get it back the way it was?
I'm running it on a wireless D-Link home network. I've tried to set it up running the desktop toolbar and the quicklaunch toolbar but everytime I reboot or just start up the computer those toolbars are missing. I've locked the quicklaunch toolbar and that doesn't help.
know the desktop toolbar right, the one that is next to the clock? (if you have it turned on) Well im using windowblinds to make xp a little more visually appealing. When i use the black vista theme it kinda interferes with the black font of the desktop toolbar. Does anyone know if there is a way to change the color or where to find the registry entry so i can set the RGB myself.
I want to stop the language toolbar from appearing on my toolbar. I have deselected on the list of toolbars but it seems to reappear: how can I have it not showing, and stay not showing.
All my desktop icons are missing ,start menu missing, only thing i could see is wallpaper on desktop right click is laso not working,i could only use ctrl+ alt+del to open task mgr and run a program what should i do to take them back.
Hard drive crash, transplanted HD to new computer which now has 2 hard drives, C & D. Problem is I cannot open Windows Explorer from desktop or any other location, from either drive. I get a message that says it "generates errors." And that it is keeping a log, presumably for use on some Day of Judgment. (I get around it for now by right-clicking My Computer and picking Explore from the pop-up menu.)I have gone to the usual download sites in search of WE, no dice.
Not sure how that happened or if i have a virus of some sort. I cannot see in IE the file-edit-tools-windows menu at the top of the navagation icons. I have a virus scanner that updates daily, so may be that my grand daughter changed something. How do i restore them back to the way it was?
I right clicked on the Taskbar and checked Quick Launch and hit the Apply button. This put the Quick Launch toolbar on the Taskbar with the Show Desktop and Internet Explorer icons. I deleted them and now I can't duplicate this action. I can get the Internet Explorer icon back. But I can't get the Show Desktop icon back.
My friend is missing the top bar on her Internet Explorer. Its not from F11. Something change after a update but she does not know what. A restore was never done and now its been a while. This problem most likely easy to fix I just don't know how.
I'm not sure what I did but out of nowhere I am missing the buttons that usually show up in an Explorer window, such as back, forward, the file, edit menus, and the address bar. How can I go about getting these back? I'm on XP 64-bit edition.
Clicking on the IE icon - At the top of the page it says "Internet Explorer cannot find Server."Under that, the message reads - "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable."Beneath that next to a "security" icon, the message reads - "To help protect your security, IE has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer."Clicking on the Juno icon for their website, the message reads, "Juno was unable to connect to its central computers."This is my Dad's computer (the computer I registered for TechGuy.Org). He is 92 years old, and would dearly love to get back on the internet. He has been receiving the above messages for over two years since he lost the Juno internet service.
Last week my Windows Explorer Toolbar disappeared. When I open "my documents" or any other folder on my computer, the top toolbar isn't present.I can't access the file menu, change folder views, or anything.I've run several checks for viruses or malware using McAfee and AdAware with no significant results.I suspect it's a problem in Windows, but I can't figure out how to repair it.I keep Windows up to date, and running extremely lean. I have few extra processes running.I attempted a system restore back to the day before the problem occurred. Upon startup, I would get an error message stating Windows Explorer Must Close. I did an un restore.
I keep my mp3's in one folder, called mp3 (of course). There used to be a load of columns for album, artist, duration, etc etc, but they are now all missing. I've tried the obvious way of adding them back again, but the options aren't there anymore (view - details, choose details). Also - and this may be a helpful clue, when I hover the cursor over the mp3's I no longer get the pop up details of the file other than the basic MP3 file and file size - same if I click on it -in the left hand pane of explorer there are no longer details about the file.
This is one of those times that windows loses it's mind and decides a setting is better off another way. Completely at random, the windows Explorer has lost all it's toolbars. Not a big problem, but still a minor annoyance. The strange thing is that internet explorer, when opened and pointed to c: for instance has the appropriate toolbars. (plus IE's links bar) However, explorer is toolbarless, but there is apparently something that can be dragged, meaning the double-headed arrow appears but nothing is actually drag-gable.Also, something I noticed that may or may not be normal behavior: When I double click on the icon at the top left of the title bar, it closes the window.
I dont have this problem with any of my other computers, but they all run XP Pro SP2, yet this desktop is running XP X64 SP2.In my Windows Explorer, I cant view any ID3 tags, nor bring up the properties of songs to edit the ID3 tags.I attached a screenshot to show what I mean, anybody have any ideas? I'm stumped.WMP is fully updated. Windows is updated.
I have no idea why this looks like it does. Take a look at the image and try to tell me why my menubar, address bar and navigation links have gone missing from my windows. If I double click a folder on my desktop or right click a folder in windows explorer and click "Open", the window that opens shows up like this:Has anyone ever seen this? Attention: window behaviour is normal when windows explorer is openned by pressing <WindowsKey> + E. I repeat: windows display normal menus and bars when I open using the shortcut key.
